Jeez just reading the first few pages reminded me how bad things got and you got people on twitter acting like he is some messiah because he got us promoted with Cullen, Bielik, Aribo and Taylor
He knows how to get promotion out of this league. What’s not to like?
Quite a bit of amnesia & gaslighting going on re his last tenure tonight………
I'm quite taken aback tbh. I think I was pro-Bowyer at the time (can't quite remember) but I do remember just how negative and bitter people were against him during that period. Couldn't argue that LB had totally lost his composure either.
Didn’t mean you gaslighting-I just think people have forgotten how it ended

Do promotions not count if a manager went out at found some good players?

I mean those players don't compare to what we have now.
We dont have a Bielik, Aribo or Taylor, Phillips was twice the keeper that AMB or Isted are the only one that compares in Dobbo to Cullen
The guy lived off a period where he was given Gallagher, Bielik, Taylor, Cullen, Grant, Aribo to work with.
He's not doing the same with this lot.
Yeah this is my feeling about him: achieving promotion with that squad was pretty much what should have been expected. That's not to say he didn't do good work, but it's to say he had a very good team that year (including Bauer, Sarr, Williams, and Djiksteel).
Yeah, people really have selective memories with Bows. Things were really, really bad at the end. He didn't have a great squad, but Adkins came in and made it to 7th with roughly the same squad Bowyer had. There were a lot of leaks out of the dressing room that things were unpleasant. And he seemed to have a new team and formation every match. The "we never worked on tactics" springs to mind (also worth remembering that Jacko was his assistant).
I would really rather we let sleeping dogs lie when it comes to re-appointing previous managers.
Really not sure what to think about Bowyer coming back I kinda love the idea and he will bring some passion back but he completely lost it by the end last time and would hate for it to possibly go sour again/get sacked again and ruin what he has done before.
It also looks like its the ownership just trying to please fans and keep us quiet not actually have a full search and go for the best man🤦🏻♂️🤔
Not opposed to Bowyer, would've liked a fresh start but I'll take it. It started so well under him but once we were plagued with injuries, covid and then Sandgaard signing a pile of shite it was awful. The digging out of Albie/Williams seemed harsh at the time but think that's what some of this lot need right now

We are all more than aware of that Paul. This will take time to get this squad together to gain promotion so no harm in getting someone like Bowyer if he wants the job

The Lyle Taylor that admitted he joined Charlton over Sunderland (despite their higher offer of salary) because of how Bowyer sold his vision and the club to him?
The same Bielik who wasn’t overly rated from his brum loan spell and was playing CB there, Bowyer got the best out of him, played him in CDM and he went for 10m after that.
Aribo & Cullen, both clearly became better players under Bowyer. Especially Aribo, as a calmness was introduced to his game who excelled him into a top young cm.
It’s also the same Bowyer who nearly kept us in the championship with a max 2.5k per week per player wage bill, injury ravaged squad and just to and his main talisman downing tools to look after his next contract, and oh ESI 1.0 - we went down by 1 goal.
Or let’s hold out for Nathan Jones or Chris Wilder, who by the way, are never coming here while we are in League 1.
Maybe someone with Bowyer's attitude is what players need - It feels like we've had "nice" Managers since he left, and all they've done is take the piss.

How to get promotion? Play with four of the best in the division.

People will say no to Bowyer but then suggest Moore and Richardson whose promotions came with the biggest budgets in the league.
Yes we had some great players, but Bowyer made them even better. Bielik and Aribo improved loads over the season. We also had Chris Solly or Naby Sarr at left back for most of the first half of the season, and Parker up front the second half. We also had a lot of injuries so often had Lapslie and/or Reeves in midfield

Didn’t you know managers control the team with an xbox controller?

I do think it's to Bowyer's credit that Charlton players seemed to improve under him. Taylor, Bauer, Sarr, Djiksteel, Cullen, Bielik, Aribo all got better.
I think that is noteworthy in particular because very few players got better under Holden, and that's one of the big knocks on him in my opinion. I would say Ness, Leaburn, and JRS are the three who made noticeable strides. But the problem with JRS and Leaburn, and this applies to some of the Bowyer players too, is: how much of that is improvement driven by the manager and coaching staff, and how much of it is just giving young, incredibly talented players a chance to play every week and develop? It's probably impossible to answer, and it's certainly not one or the other, it's just something I think about often.

Let's have a look at how Bowyer did once he left us:
"After 16 months in charge, Bowyer was sacked on 2 July 2022. During his final season in charge, Birmingham finished in 20th in the EFL Championship and won just four games in 26 after November 2021"
Bowyer was VERY good at the beginning, and VERY bad by the end. Who knows if the decline was of his own making, or whether the massive injury crisis in 19/20 tipped him over the edge?
If we can get the same bounce out of him that we did back in 2018 though, I'd welcome him. I do suspect he'd only be here for a couple of years though. Based on how things panned out for him here and at Birmingham.
Surely that’s what happens to most managers . It’s why they leave .

Charlton’s record since he left us isn’t much better

It’s funny how the past can sometimes warp perspectives both positively and negatively.
Bielik really took a while to show his true class as he flipped between cb and dmf. Phillips was good but his career has proved he wasn’t irreplaceable. Aribo was young and improved as the season wore on and Taylor did excellently but always had a partner. I have no doubt May could get similar figures (He has already in the last two years.
Dobson, Fraser, Camara, May, Jones are a fantastic spine. Asiimwe is every bit as good as Dijksteel was at the start of that season. Edun every bit as good Purrington. Leaburn when fit will be a fantastic improvement on Parker.
CBT and Campbell are excellent wide players if we opt for that approach.
In my opinion what we have now, really does compare with what we had then if utilised correctly.

If it is Bows, it will be interesting to see how he forms his back room staff. Jacko now a manager in his own right. Mark Kennedy (his Birmingham assistant) the same. Andy Marshall at Millwall.
