really think this could have been better handled, I know we all love to criticise, but really it could have. I think there will be serious problems. Far better to have kept Millwall back and let home fans and families leave, this will put even more off attending.

  • Completely cock-eyed arrangement. The total opposite of reason. UnChuffingbelievable!
There is one crucial bit of detail missing from the announcement: what time Floyd Road is gonna be closed - when we're 3 - 0 up with 10 minutes to go I'd be off smartish if I know the route to the station is gonna be available.
Assuming we do go all round the houses to get back to the station I'll give you a pound to a penny we still won't be able to catch a London bound train until OB has finished his H&S assessment and loaded all the overtimers onto the minibusses for a sharp exit.

    Meeting agenda:
Item 1: consider the after match issues and all previous experience then do the least convenient thing for the highest number of people.

If this has been forced by OB then Charlton should flat refuse to pay for the day's policing.

We got kept in at their dump before with no consideration for our travel arrangements. Charlton has significantly more home fans than the spanners ever muster.
We got kettled and ludicrously diverted after palarse.
Do Charlton send anyone to these "meetings"? Whoever it was clearly didn't speak up for us.
There will be just as many charlton fans as spanners needing to catch trains in both directions.
Any spanners looking to get involved in any of their usual sub-human behaviour will manage that easily enough they'll only have to dawdle a bit to be able to go wherever they like. It's not like OB ever show up until 10 past it's all finished on the odd occasion that neanderthals have a go at each other.
Anyone from either side getting involved in anything afterwards should be named shamed and banned forever. If you're reading this and you were busting door mirrors and slagging off locals after palarse thanks a flippin lot this is what you've brought home to roost for the rest of us - berks.
  • I can understand why people are pissed off BUT in this situation you have to focus on the main objective: Get those 3,000 cocaine snorting, Burberry wearing, wife beating, Stella drinking, BNP voting, tower block dwelling, Sun reading, benefit claiming, drug dealing, 'tooled up', Jeremy Kyle show guests OUT OF OUR GROUND AND BACK TO THEIR HOVELS AS FAST AS POSSIBLE.

Seriously, having to play host to Millwall is like having a sex offender burgle your house, the whole experience just makes you feel grubby and in need of a long, hot shower.

This should be Stig's Post of the week!

    No surprise to me.

In society at large the decent majority suffer and are inconvenienced because of the scummy minority. Why would anyone expect it to be any different at Charlton?

The decision now is whether or not to bother with this match and the attendant hassle given that I desperately want to watch the Grand Slam decider and have quite a long journey home.

The England game starts at five so do I risk missing the start knowing that being imprisoned for "25 minutes" is likely to be a conservative estimate as police and stewards love their little bit of power.

Give someone a brightly coloured fluorescent jacket and watch him turn into Adolf Hitler reincarnated. We've all encountered them!

I heard a rumour that the European Parliament intervened in the decision...

Comment says alot more about you tbh.

I think it might be a case of just putting them on a train back to London Bridge whether they like it or not , same thing happens in west ham/millwall fixtures

The difference here is that the majority of Millwall/West ham fans will live nowhere near each other so have to get on trains out of the other teams area. Loads of Millwall live in our area and need to get the same trains. If they're all stuck on a london bound train but need to go the opposite way, they will be getting off at Greenwich, Lewisham, London bridge etc and you will have big groups of them roaming around for when Charlton get there 20/30/40 minutes later.
Yeah I understand what you're saying but I know west ham fans from our area who got herded back to east london regardless . I reckon they'll just do a fast train to london bridge rather than stopping en route but who knows

I hope it does, that's why I wrote it.

I am guessing you didn't like the BNP part, yeah?

Haven't read the link but I suspect it isn't last minute. The club said ages ago that bars would be open afterwards, so you'd think a decision (or close to one) had been made.

They wouldn't be leaving them open just so people can quickly top up before running into Millwall louts on the way to the station. This whole thing is farcical.

    Ormiston,

  • Out of the ground sharpish at full time, 20 minute walk past Maryon Park to Woolwich Dockyard station and away on the train. That's my plan anyway, but would be curious to know if anyone reckons this isn't as simple as I think.

Just hoping I can make it home in time to pop a cold one and watch the rugby.

Blimey, reading this as an outsider looking in, its just a tad OTT isnt it?
Spurs & Ars*nal can mix together quite happily home and away without any of this...ok, there's the occasional police escort back for the Goons back down the Tottenham High Road to Seven Sisters but never anything quite like this...

    Perhaps I'm missing something obvious?

Rugby isn't on til 5 is it? Unless you live in Paris i reckon you should make it home in time.

Millwall and Charlton ain't Tottenham and Arsenal. Charlton have an element that come out for games like this, and Millwall have a widely known element. Police are going to try overkill this, but these actions are ridiculous, if it were me.. cram them in for 20mins and let all the families home etc.
  • Maybe the old bill have received/read some intel that suggests it is going to kick off more than a lot of you think. A lot has been said since we played up at their place.
  • Most of our and their "trouble" wont even be in the fucking ground.

I know for a fact that they are meeting at 8 am. In all seriousness keep em peeled.

Had 4.30pm in mind, but might be start of coverage. Gotta get back to Folkestone, so close enough to France as it is!

    @OrmistonAddick

    Nope.

Just not everyones at Charlton is as middle class as you or want us to be portrayed as such.

Grew up on a shithole estate, read the sun, don't mind Stella, have used the odd illegal substance in the past, probably have a different political view to you. Does that mean I should fuck off then as I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who doesn't quite fit your little fantasy as who should support Charlton.

yes. This is Millwalls chance to get together in big numbers and show off.
  • the announcement is last minute, and no mention of home measures affecting home fans at the FF, I think this could have been communciated much sooner, and with more consultation with home fans, particularly after the Palace debacle - we hoped.

  • I tell you what - if i still went this would make me seethe. But as it is its one of the many reasons i dont bother anymore i can just laugh at it. God knows how you put up with this.
  • i think the police should invite all who want a no holds barred rumble on to the pitch at the end ,
publicise it during the game and let all the hard men realise there will be no police/steward interruption
they wont have the stewards or police in between them to make them look all hard with hand signals and gestures
then everyone who wants to rumble can and the normal punters can watch or go home without any agg

    8.07 prompt I heard
  • Millwall win and they will stay behind as long as they can taunting home fans

Millwall lose and they will stay behind as long as they can waving there mr tickle arms pretending to try and get to home fans.

The jimmy seed will get damaged anyway.

I guess it will be ok getting to charlton village without delay
  • spot on, what if they won't leave, poor things will miss their specially provided trains..
  • Love that the Police are all powerful and can boss everyone around, change fixtures, you name it, but there's one thing even they can't change SOUTHEASTERN RAIL
  • So what will happen if they are 3 or 4 down and the spanners start to leave? Will the ob keep them in until the final whistle?
  • Piss take. Pure and simple.

What other club would inconvenience 16,000 home fans rather than the away ones?

And it's going to piss down with rain tomorrow. So I can get soaked as well whilst they let Millwall out.

And are the Millwall supporters going to be forced to get on a train? Even the ones who have driven?

Actually, the rain may well be the policeman's best friend tomorrow. Does wonders in stopping trouble.
  • if there's loads of trouble tomorrow, then god knows what 'crowd safety measures' they will put in place next season
