[cite]Posted By: falconwood_1[/cite]I never knew his middle name was 'Robin'.....
Its a sign.
Brilliant. And his surname matches the groundsman's aswell. It's just so ment to be. Altho I think your find of his middle name is more of a sign haha.
I'm in the minority here, but it's a no for me. I love the guy, but I'd hate to see him slaughtered if he failed, and given the emphasis on getting promoted this season, I really don't think this is the right time for him.

but if his ambition is to manage, then there is no other set of fans that will be so willing to get behind him I reckon...I mean he could get a job at a lower league side where he has no affinity with the fans & find his honeymoon period & subsequent leash much shorter....
The Mail had this to say about our vacant managerial role today:
Promotion from League One this season is a must for the new owners so surely someone who has successfully handled that pressure before would be the safest bet - even if he is not in the first flush of managerial youth.
The more i think about it the more i think "why not?" Imagine the atmo around the ground on his first game at the valley? It'll be one of those days where we were just destined to win.

That just confirms it for me, then - I always passionately disagree with anything written in The Mail!
" I see my future in coaching and management. I want to stay in the game. I was looking at one time at staying in the game in an administrative capacity but I think my natural calling is towards coaching and management.
I have an opportunity at Leicester City first through Nigel Pearson and now Sven. I hope to continue my development and one day be a manager outright."

Maybe that's unduly defeatist, Ali. Any appointment would be a risk and (as in politics) most football managers' careers end in failure, but there's also a good chance of success combined with an unprecedented feelgood factor. None of the attainable alternatives excite me, and Lord Powell has every bit as much to offer as any of them. I say, with Keith Peacock providing a non-egotistical steer as his assistant, let's go with it, let's PARTY!

hmmmmm I think he would galvanise the fans which can only be a good thing, hopefully that might give the players a bit more confidence to express themselves and he does have all the good trates to be a good manager but is he tacticly good enough?
Its a BIG risk but maybe one worth taking especially looking at who else is out there.
Only just seen this. Can't help but feel excited. Could be terrible but could be a great manager.
The other options aren't convincing, the managers I would like seem happy at their current clubs.
Earlier I posted in NLAs thread about Damian Matthew on how several clubs in the top half of this league are doing well with managers in their first job. It works for them, get the right man and it could work for us. Would love Powell to be that man.

I agree with you Ali. He's a great bloke, but it's the wrong time for him to take over.
I'd be stunned if the new owners go with a managerial rookie at such a crucial time.
On an emotional level wonderful, but many a club hero and great player has been a failure as a manager. Comparing him to other managers who have been in charge of clubs and had some success isn't valid. It has to be a bigger risk. Being a coach or even an assistant is a very different job to being a manager. Nobody can really have any idea how he'd perform. I'd be uneasy on an appointment based on appeasement.

I would too, normally. But I think this is an exceptional individual we're discussing. He will succeed somewhere: best it's with us.

If you think about it he has the best backing he possibly could have with us, jimenez, the fixer, who would probably take alot of the stress and strain out of player transfers etc, us the fans, nobody would support him more than the cafc faithfull, that just leaves the coaching side of things which he can do....or have I just got my rose tints on?

Isn't it a risk at this moment in time with anybody coming in?
Unite the fans
Get A buzz not seen at the Valley for sadly many a year
Get the team playing an attractive passing ( but winning ) game
What then would we have left to moan about?
Bring it on
Welcome home Chrissy boy.....

and that day is today (tomorrow) my ol mucka
What the f*** does the Mail know about anything?
I've been texted by a former league manager that it'll be Gary Johnson.
*turns phone off*
Cheers falconwood

As is Howe, Johnson, Tisdale etc etc
As was Curbishley

Exactly.
This would be the exact opposite of appointing Wise! Please do it.
This...
if they appoint Johnson tomorrow I for one will be so dissapointed after this rumour
