  • Johnson with Powell would be good but can't see it happening.
  • If we went up with Powell in charge it would be one of the best moments in supporting Charlton.

If we stayed down and carried on being rubbish, there is no other bloke I would rather have in charge!

    Sign him up.

I think some are underestimating Powell's current ability and standing in the game. You only have to listen to Sven and the Leicester players to know everything you need to know. Then there is the Leicester fans' forums too - take a peek.

He will be ready soon enough to take control somewhere, why not speed that up a little with us? I'd much rather take my risks with someone I respect immensely who is on the up than a manager who has been released by their club.
  • Part of me is thinking the guy is an absolute legend in se7 and for him to come in and get the team playing good attractive football with no experience might not be to easy. I would hate for it to go Pete tong with sir Chris.

But then another part of me is thinking his loved by everyone, his a massive character here, there will be a buzz around the place and if ever he needs support for his first chance of management he will sure get it down the valley and he is no less of a risk than Howe tisdale etc

    I don't know

    yes you do!
  • [cite]Posted By: O-Randy-Hunt[/cite] I would hate for it to go Pete tong with sir Chris.

But that would always be a possibility, whenever we appointed him. So is he to be barred from ever being our manager because it might not go well? Should I never cross the road because I might get run down?

[cite]Posted By: Oakster[/cite]but if his ambition is to manage, then there is no other set of fans that will be so willing to get behind him I reckon...I mean he could get a job at a lower league side where he has no affinity with the fans & find his honeymoon period & subsequent leash much shorter....
Right place? Yes. Right time? No. If Parky had failed, and we had sacked him / not renewed his contract at the end of the season, then we could do the whole "fresh start with a bright young coach" thing. Outside of Charlton circles, people think the club is bonkers for sacking Parky, and bringing in an untried coach at this stage in the transfer window is just going to add to that impression. Fortunately we're not in the Prem, where the media scrutiny would be much more intense, but if we drop to midtable or worse, then I could see that there'd be pressure on the board to justify their choice in the light of Parky's sacking, and that'd put pressure on Chrissy.

Curbs as director of football with Powell as manager might work, but could we get him to do it?

Of course this is all speculation.

You know Chrissy has already said he hopes to go into management one day. If its not the Charlton job, I'm pretty sure he will make it somewhere.

Yes its worrying for our love and respect for him because we'd hate to see him fail.

In a way its like your child who has grown up and has their first big job opportunity. You are desperately worried for them and hoping they won't screw it up, but at the same time proud and excited for them that they have been chosen for this opportunity.

Yes I am certain it would be a gamble, but to me he isn't, both in Charlton terms and in personal terms, an ordinary Joe. He has something special about him. Why shouldn't he get the opportunity to show what he can do at his spiritual home?

Well, it's a point of view. I'll bear it in mind.

  • I still fully expect it to be Gary Johnson but this is getting a bit much trying to control excitement!

also bear in mind the effect Howe (a bournemouth legend) had on the cherries (a team in decline at the time), whats to say it wont go that way

  • Please Slater / Jiminez....bring in chrissy powell :)
  • So can us fans to anything to try make this happen? Or not...?
  • Oh God, I'm not going to sleep now. Pleeeeeeease!
  • [cite]Posted By: jazzyjazzyjazzy[/cite]So can us fans to anything to try make this happen? Or not...?

stand butt naked outside the Valley gates all day tomorrow, with sign saying "hire Powell or the short fella gets it"?
  • Not exactly sure why but I'm now expecting Johnson to be named our new manager by the weekend.

  • I still wouldn't be too disapointed by Johnson, although I am getting properly excited at the thought of Powell despite my initial reservations.

A gamble? Yes. A risk? Probably.

But after the very 'safe' Mr Parkinson, I'd love to see us gamble and take a few risks. It might even lead to some exciting football again!

Whether the new owners have quite the same cavalier thrill that most of us seem to feel at the prospect of Sir Chrissy, I'm not sure. I hope they do, because in comparison every other possible appointment seems dull and unenterprising, doesn't it?

Got the telly on in the background and they are just playing that irritating advert that uses Queen's ''Can Anybody Find Me Somebody To Love''. It seems appropriate. Weegie used the word ''love'' earlier and it's right. After Pardew (whom we hated) and Parky (whom we seemed to resent for various reasons), this club desperately needs somebody to ''love''. And in CP we have that man...

    .
  • Would love this to happen. The supporters would welcome him, like no other manager, even Curbs. We will flood back to the valley with smiles to rival Chris's own. The players will respond to his sound coaching and be lifted by his enthiusiasm. Once on the pitch we will cement that new belief with a wall of sound & atmosphere they have not witnessed here. I believe we as supporters will actually believe we are on the up, rather than just hoping and will finally become the extra man we have been missing. Chris Powell is good enough to get us out of this league with our help and we will give it.

Well lets hope the new owners read this forum ;-) as Chrissy has got to page 8 quicker than Mr Howe

Ha ha! What we need is a blogger on the Leicester Mercury, who can follow him around all day tomorrow, tell us what he had for breakfast, what time he arrives at the training ground, what colour his socks are etc etc...

Very nice post. And you are right - the Valley would get behind the team under Sir Chris like we've not heard it in years and create that mythical '12th man' managers so like to talk about. As you say, even more so than if it was Curbs. And yes, that smile! It's got me smiling right now, just thinking about it...

ps: anyone got his e-mail or mobile number? Because he really should be told to read this thread. What a spontaenous outpouring of - yes - love !
  • Heart says yes please!

Head says are our fans too fickle? Goonerhater was the only poster to mention Kinsella (another legend) when Parky & Co got sacked. I'd hate Chris Powell is a c*** to echo from the Covered End as happened with Parky.
