I'd have been very happy with Howe. I'd be happy with Tisdale. I want someone who can take this club forward, someone for the long haul. Now if that person can have the whole Club behind him and have the full support of the fans then all the better. One day Chris Powell is going to make a very good manager at some lucky club, why shouldn't that club be us, why shouldn't it be now. Yes it's a gamble but so is anyone, even if we appointed Wenger. If we are going to gamble then I'd rather it would be on someone we all love, someone we can relate to, and someone who would jump at the chance to manage us. With an older head alongside him it could work.
One spanner in the works, Leicester turned down Newcastles approach so why would they accept ours? Unless Chris has a clause in his contract relating to managerial positions?
Loved the guy as a player, but just not convinced this would be the right move at this time, for him in particular, let alone us. A brave move by the new owners, with their expectations set for sure, but I can't help thinking they are inviting trouble, because if he does not do what they are looking for, based on what we've heard MS say thus far, he'll be facing the tick tack in no time at all and with someone as loved as Sir Chrissy is, I think the fans would fast turn on the Board for putting this guy in this situation. Don't forget Eddie Howe and Gus Poyet neither sarted their roles with demands nor expectations of immediate promotion or success. That's a heavy weight to carry for an experienced manager, let alone rookie.
If they've got the dosh, try to prize him away as assistant manager and bring in Paolo for that matter to teach the strikers a few tricks, but my gut feel is go for an experienced manager who knows a bit about this league. Who - feck knows, but again, subject to dosh why not a very short term contract for Curbs or O'Neil to see if they can help get us promoted. The odds would be better stacked for all concerned with that approach imho.

Really? Why haven't you mentioned that before ;-)
On the subject of Chrissy coming home...phew I don't really know where I stand on this and I keep flipping fomr one point of view to another. My initial reaction is "Fantastic! Great! WOW yes please!" but at the same time this is such an important decison and Sir Chris is the nearest I've had to a true hero since I was a kid it would be heartbreaking for it all to end badly. Powell with Curbs coming in for the next six months as a mentor is the dream ticket but I fear that that's all it is, a dream. One huge factor that can't be understated is the upsurge in the mood around The Valley and the impact this could have on the pitch if CP got the gig.
This is the first time my heart has skipped a beat in this search for a manager. Something just feels so right about this. Chris Powells red n white army has a ring to it. Bing and afkas posts are spot on but this also just feels exiting and right for charlton. I've just excitedly told my wife " IT MIGHT BE POWELLY" in bed
I think I'll join this love in. Are we following the palace route again? Yes from me so long as he has a mentor at his elbow. Would hate to see Sir Chris cock it all up. Love the bloke.
Do you know what, until this thread started I hadn't even though about Chris Powell, but now it seems irrestible. I hope I wake up tomorrow to lots of news stories about him being spotted at The Valley!
I would love this! He is proper Charlton and a legend. We should all agree if he gets the job and it doesn't work out to keep him as a Charlton hero. In my eyes he deserves that no matter what

the key might be that leicester (and CP) could resist a number two gig, even at a higher level... but I don't think that would be the case for a crack at the top job on either front, I think he'd get their blessing if he wanted to take on the job.
I'm afraid I'm not as excited. I don't want his star to fall and a lot of our support is 3/4 days fickle right now. A few losses and it'll ruin a legend. It would break my heart to see our fans boo him
Out of all the stories emerging from this circus this is the one that strikes me (a life long charlton fan) the most, if you want to unite a club who better to unite it than one of its royal family!

Sod 'em all, bring in Powell.

OohAah's on holiday abroad at the moment.....I think he would wail like a baby.

Can someone start an argument, please???
Oh no it isn't!
Shall I mention Simon Francis?
Then again, if there's anyone who might get the best out of him...

(But they were stupid enough to get rid of him...)
Just checked his Wiki page - the one pic is of him in a Charlton shirt (the Cov game, I think). Now that has to be an omen.

hahaha knew something like that with coming, I walked right into it aye.
You take Charlton Life to BED with you??? Bloody hell. I thought I was sad ! lol....
That's my photo! Also provide the pics for Jonjo and Matt Holland on wiki!
Anyway, on topic, Powell as manager? I'm in

They also mentioned on their site that Sven was hoping to get Beckham to leicester on loan.
Its a sign.
