Loved Powell as a player (of course) but he's not a proven manager at any level. He's more of a gamble than keeping Parkinson. Surely the new owners want success, so they'd go for someone with experience?
"I live in Charlton, it's a shit club with rubbish fans and a half empty ground weekly. I also know that Powell still lives down my way, so from that point of view it could be convenient. "
Would be over the moon if we gave him a chance, particularly as there are so few over candidates who you can say with any certainty are more likely to suceed.
Genuinely torn here. Legend and great fan fave but seriously too soon for him isn't it and Jesus Charlton can't afford to nause it up again. This one scares me.

disagree. he's the first team coach at leicester, lets not under estimate that. very much doubt his coaching techiniques would involve the full backs pinging 80 balls over the head of their strikers.
its a step up into management of course, but i still think he's good enough.
I look at the other options and names and think we're not going to get anyone outstanding so why not give him an 18 month contract with little pressure? He's the only person I'd give next season as well to get promoted. With the takeover (crap football aside) maybe promotion (in a financial sense) is not as important now (for owners rather than us).

You have to admit that he's less qualified than Parkinson was when he took over. If he was appointed he'd have my full support I just think it's more of a gamble than I was expecting.
Worth remembering that the two managers who have attracted the most psotivity on here are Poyet and Howe.
Both in their first managerial roles.
There is sooo much scrutiny in football now yet the managerial basics remain so simple; can you get your ideas across to the players, can you get your players to play for you, have you a good tactical understanding, and have you and your staff an eye for emerging talent.
You don't have to do the job 20 years to get that right, as proven by the cast number of managers who are successful in their first managerial appointments !
This is the first thread for ages where over 90% agree on something - and even those with reservations have them for the right reasons ("what a shame if it all went wrong"). If Curbs ain't coming back, then Chrissy P is the next best thing in my book - and we'd give him so much support, and time, and love, that I just think it might work!!!
look at the managers available. not one can you say isnt a gamble one way or another. if they could ensure instant success then they wouldnt be coming to charlton!

above is a link to the leicester fans forum about this...they like him too it seems.
Blimey. They like him as much as we do.
I couldnt bear him not doing well but IF he turns out to be decent the highs would be very high.
All the options are a gamble as I see it, so let's gamble on the guy we love the most !
Good to see all forums have their chunts
But I love the guy.

I love powell as much as any addick fan so hard to let head rule heart.
As shirty says I'll believe when its on the sky yellow strip.

Or respected former England International?
If it happens it will be with a senior alongside him.
Far from instant success though.
We need a hero a real man to stand up and fight for us step forward
Sir chrissy Powell
Yes!
Everyone knows gambles pay off every 20 years or so. FACT

How long did it take to work out though?
may as well get someone the fans love instantly
admin in the eyes.
With the right support from within the club this could work it really bloody could.
If it is all bollox though I hope someone tells me quickly. You know who you are. Whisper me before I start to really believe and hope
