  • My god, this would be a turn up for the books!

Chris Powell with KP as assistent? I would love a bit of that! I know Howe did well with no experience, but we have expectations of promotion, will he be able to cope with it?
  • [cite]Posted By: nth london addick[/cite]total heart over head moment though

I think it is from everyone mate but when you consider the (realistic) alternatives:

    Johnson
    Wise
Scott (who we may have a bit of bother getting)
Tisdale (who I don't think is moveable in the slightest)

    it doesn't look entirely delusional

He's the only option i'd give an extra season, just because it's him.

To be honest, I agree with you!

I always loved chrissy powell for his 150% passion and commitment and I think he will bring that into his managment. I think he would need someone experienced like KP alongside him though, just for that extra bit of experience and knowhow
  • Would love it if he did come back, would be loved by the fans and respected by the players. Not much experience, but 100% win record with Leicester :-)

Could do really well, especially if he had someone experienced like Peacock, Gritt or Lennie to help him out.
  • Very unsure about this. I don't think of Kins in the same way as I did when he wore the captain's armband, because of his role in the Parky set up - and they didn't really fail. Would hate to see Chris Powell booed off at The Valley
  • I can believe he applied for the job. Well it would seem too good a chance from his point of view. Back home in south, club he knows and who know him.

Maybe he's had an interview and is one of the 5 or 6 on the shortlist?

Big risk but if you let him pick his own staff so he has experience and people he can work with around him plus money and time it could work you know, it bloody well could.

Not going to get excited about this. Not yet.
  • High risk ... but bold and adventurous and would definitely create a buzz at the Valley the like of which we haven't seen in a long time.

And of course he would have to do the tunnel jump every time we won....

I feel a Charlton equivalent of a Wimbeldon mid-80s crazy gang ethic coming on - and I don't mean with Dennis Wise, just in that sense of collectivity, sustained by the right combination of good humour and hard work for each other, with Sir Chrisy as our Dave Bassett .

Remember when the Crazy Gang beat Liverpool in the cup final? They weren't pretty. But there was an indomitable spirit about them that was hugely admirable. Do you reckon Powell could build something like that at the Valley?

May be iIt's just that CP's tunnel jump always used to put me in my mind of the Wimbeldon crazy gang for some reason... I've had a glass or two of wine with dinner and it's a nice fantasy, anyway!
  • Love the bloke but think this would be a mistake and would be so gutted if it went wrong for such a club hero especially after what happened with Kins.

Wonder if we're looking for someone who's willing to work with a director of football.

You know you are a little excited...

The trouble is, how many legendary players become legendary mangers of the same club? Dalglish and err... err... I'm struggling to think of any more.

That on the shoulders moment when he scored in his farewell game is one of my all time footballing moments - I'm not sure I want that relationship soured.

Him with Curbs as director of football could well work, but I'd be a lot less anxious if we recruited from a new source.
  • Eddie Howe?
  • Please let this happen.

    Disneyworld football.
  • Not one to go spreading rumours (because of most of crap that has been rumoured over the past week and bored me to tears) but my dad mentioned this to me today that he was told Curbs and Powell would be taking over.
No it wasnt a chat with the directors or CP's best mate or anything just a few of his Charlton pals who said they heard this on the grapevine.

When he told me I just rolled my eyes and said 'Its boring me now, dont care'
  • I wonder if paulthecab can get us a picture? ;-)
  • [cite]Posted By: RodneyCharltonTrotta[/cite]Disneyworld football.

    great expression Rodders!
  • [cite]Posted By: WSS[/cite]Eddie Howe?

Okay that's two - the list of failures is still a lot longer!

well we have been mickey mouse for years so time for our luck to change!

If this happens i will say my prayers every night, help an old lady across the road every day and trim my pubes on a more regular basis as a thank you.
  • Remember just betting odds so far.

Think maybe he's interviewed for the job and that's leaked.

  • hope not lovely guy and future manager but hope not at present.
  • Over an hour ago he was 12/1 for the job, now 1/8. Plenty of dough has gone on him, or the bookies know/heard something. We shall see, as so far, we have had Wise, Howe, Johnson and now Powell all odds on for the job.

Until it's on the yellow strip on SSN, then it's not official ;-)
  • Well it would be exciting if not a large gamble.

He really is a legend and I would so love him to be back here in some capacity or other.
  • Powell gaffer with Matthew and ANOther coaching

    This could be beautiful

    t happen in any ot
Has been said before this week but it would take about £60 to make the market move like that.

Eddie Howe was 1/5, 1/7, and 1/3 for 3 seperate jobs at the same time. That wouldnt happen in any other sport or market.
  • played at highest level

    first team coached in championship

high up in PFA so good man management skills

    hugely respected in the game

    loved by fans

if your gonna give someone their first crack at managing a team then surely he fits the bill
  • No other player epitomises what Charlton means to me than Chris Powell and would be a great antitdote to the post - Curbs blues.
