Divisive to everyone except those born well after WW11. I'm sorry if it is considered rubbish. I'll explain my personal reasons although I expect howls of derision. My Mum was Italian and at the age of 15 years, she ran food through the enemy lines to feed the partisans in the Italian mountains. My holidays in Italy included time spent with relatives collecting bones of the dead from the mountain side to take to the memorial where they are honoured. I am implacably opposed to fascism and I don't want to be faced with a choice of whether to honour my family or my club. As I said, it's very personal, but there are a lot of people, yes, we're older than you probably, who would face the same dilemma. For me it's not rubbish, it's something very deep. Charlton promotes social unity and inclusiveness regardless of colour or creed. That is directly opposed to what fascism stands for. That is why I consider it will be divisive.
This is not a political debate, but when has it been stated or proved he was a facsist?
Guilt by association maybe, due to his boyhoods clubs views he was passionate about football and his local team don't know whether this now means he is a fascist.
I DO NOT WANT TO ENTIRE A DEATE ABOUT POLITCIS AND HISTORY WHICH I DO NOT KNOW OR HAVE A TRUE IDEA OF THE FACTS

That is an extreamly crass response to what stilladdicted said.
You asked why and were told. You then just dismissed it out of hand. Don't ask the question if you are not prepared to have the debate.
Errrrm Henry he said that there are a lot of us probably a lot older than you who remember things that happened in the second world war.....my response to that is QUITE clear and far from crass....on the contrary it's very pertinent.
Don't you think??
[cite]Posted By: scruffle-VoteDiCanio[/cite]This is not a political debate, but when has it been stated or proved he was a facsist?
No, he stated himself that he was a fascist, although he made a point of saying he was not a racist, and admired Mussolini
[cite]Posted By: DA9[/cite]But surely the point in all this is, what the hell does his political persuasion have to do with it?
I abhor communism, couldn't care less if any of our previous managers or future managers were/are commies.
I agree but I feel that there would be more than a few Charlton fans known to you DA9 who would be unhappy with someone like Martin O'Niell for his, alleged, republican sympathies for example.
Anyway, this is going to be sunk. It's going to be Poyet or Parky as we can't afford more than five letters on the office door (and we can re-cycle the P from Pards) so let's move on.
Isn't there some kind of confusion going on here between:
1. Who you'd want to run the country and
2. Who you'd want to manage Charlton, which is a football club the last time I checked.
Now I wouldn't be too keen on Paulo as PM since I'm not a huge fan of fascism. But if he gets us off the bottom (which I don't think he will but besides the point) then he's eligible to be our manager. Or are we now at a point where we have to approve the background and beliefs of the manager as well? Some may find Curbishley's West Ham past just as offensive!

This is about football management not FACISM, its not as if as our new leader he would make all season ticket holders join in arms and rise up, nor would he force his 'apparent' political ideas upon us.
this is decending to an absolute farce.
He has all the passionate, team spirit, motivating, technical know how, nous - everything we desperatly lack and need, he is also a qualified coach and cheap and avaliable and knows us. as said before if we had money he would not be my first choice but since we don;t and we don;t need anyone with know how of the lower leagues and lower league players he is IN MY OPION the best man for the job
[cite]Posted By: kinveachyaddick[/cite]Wasn't DI Canio released from his contract with us because his family were homesick and he wanted to move back to Italy with them?
I thought it was cause he threw a strop and didn't want to play for us once Lazio came calling
[cite]Posted By: Oggy Red[/cite]The political views thing is unsettling, no doubt.
But the proposition here is that Charlton hire a prospective employee.
Di Cainio has already been an employee of the club a short while ago.
I didn't hear any protest, when Curbs signed him from West Ham.
Shouldn't these issues have been raised back then?
Don't think it was an issue when Paulo signed for us, but it's been more of an issue since he went back to Italy, the straight arm salute and being the darling of the Ultras just highlighted it
The other thing, I think Paulo can be a bit of a whore to the situation he's in, tried to get the fans on side and will do what's needed, so with us it was tears at the back to the Valley video, and loads of rumours of him singing some fruity republican songs at Celtic, and donated shirts going to fundraising causes which would raise eyebrows.
stilladdickted, i don't agree with your view but fair play for explaining in detail your reasons why.
Heath Hero's point above sums my view up here. There is also i feel a fair amount of Di Canio playing up to the Lazio fans to show he is 'one of them' etc.
He has always been a sucker for trying to form a bond with fans, the same way Gazza played the flute thing, not because he is a blinkered loyalist but because he wanted to associate and by popular with the Rangers people (please don't turn that point into another debate, its just used as an example).
i only started the Di Canio thing to fit in my 'my mate at the cement factory says its concrete' joke, and the next thing i know people are putting money on it. At the time I didn't know at the time he had applied.
i can kind of see the thinking of those wanting him. Confidence is rock bottom throughout the whole club, 1st team, reserves, U18s and U16s are all struggling and losing most weeks. There is a losing mentality that needs to be broken, and sometimes the introduction of a charasmatic figure can have that effect.
Di Canio here would never be long term (if he did well he would be off to a bigger club in a shot), but if it had the impact and kept us up this season then brilliant.
One thing i did hear about him was that he was the most professional guy Curbs ever worked with on the training ground, so i would expect him to go about it in the right way. I actually don't think it is as crazy as it originally sounded, if he had the right person next to him.

"So if it's not Di Canio ..... WHO is going to get us off the bottom of the league?
"Suggestions on a postcard, please."
Right, had enough of all this rumour and uncertainty.
I'm going to apply for it.
I'll take Henry as my assistant manager.
Who's up for the role of coach?
Anyone got a medical background? - I'm going to bring in my own physio too.
Oi! You promised me Director of Football and now I'm an assistant. Sod that. I'll get the blame for all your bad coaching at corners : - )

THe great Di canio couldn't play us out of this mess let alone manage us out of it.
yes I do ; - ) which is why I pointed it out to you.

I've got a long white coat and a box of tranquilisers somewhere.
I see the team played on Tuesday night as if they're already tranquilised ......
Tranquilised? They're flatlined mate.Beyond all help
