  • All the kick out racism work cafc has been doing down the years would be made a mockery of, Paulo's 'Im fascist but not racist', really dosnt make any sense and shows his ignorance.Fascism is based on supremacy and a getting rid of the other and lesser.

    Shrew

Please read all the comments above it is bollox like that that is really getting up my hooter (id id swear but i have edited it)

we are holding a debate on the pro's and cons of Dicanio becoming manager not what ideals he chooses to follow or what somes perceptions are that it will have on the integrity of Charlton Athletic Football Club

If you dont want him to be manager just say no not for me thankyou

If someone was to come on here and say

" Yes vote for Dicanio he is just what we do need so that i and all other facists and racists can rejoice in his right wing supremacy ways and start chanting and changing charltons racism policy due to the fact they have employed a facist, Racist

I am sure most if not all the good folks on here would be annouyed and rightly so

You know sometimes people pushing these views in peoples faces do more harm than good
  • on another thread people were moaning that this is how somethings get blown out of all proportion by lazy journos

well it could get blown out there that Charlton fans are Concerned at Charlton potentially hireing a Racist mayve this should be put to members also if it is already then i apologise
  • NLA, we all love our club. Its all the things about charlton that I love. personally I cant seperate one part of the club from another. If something goes against part of what i feel the club is about, Im goin to express that, not stay stum. Im not pushing it down other peoples faces, just expressing something i feel strongly about. Im sorry if that p### you off.

He was good for us as a player.

I'm not sure a relegation dogfight is quite his bag though particularly as he has no managerial experience.

We absolutely have to get the decision right if we bring in a new manager and whilst I understand and to some extent am attracted myself by the superficial appeal of Paolo, my head tells me he is not the right man for a number of reasons.

the work we do as a club to remove such issues from our club is sterling and should not be used as a cheap headline to place your point across

When he played for us, when he scored, when he showed the passion and comitment that we so need today i dont remember the comments above appearing

i understand that some may not like his views or his politics but you wouldnt tolerate those that may (i am not one of those i add) using it as a reason as to why he should manage our club

the comments for dicanio to be our next mgr are all abbout his pride, commitment, passion, fight and meticulous professionalism whilst with our club

all i am asking is that on this thread which is general charlton and about the new mgr who ever that may be we debate the football abilities of the guy concerend not his politics
  • Shrew, could not agree more.

    I concur.
  • sadly - I reckon he'd get all sorts of grief whenever he drops a black player

Some of our fans are just like that
  • Also you could forget any potental tie up with Roma.

  • I see you all have struggled with Great Welsh Managers, infact I am not entirely sure that you have given it your full attention. Lets scale it down a bit to naming some ok Welsh Managers.

I'll have you know that for personal reasons I am in contact with the Welsh FA on a fairly regular basis and they have never ever expressed to me a desire to employ Di Canio so why the dickens should we.
  • i always believed the 'welsh wizard' was carl harris not di canio but i stand corrected mr moore;-)
  • CyrilDavies and our great old skipper, Graham Moore.
  • Now we're cooking. Mr Oohaahmortimer, it's a big world out there. If there is room for only one welsh wizard then may i respectfully request a sing off, live on itv,
x factor style. Do you know if Carl Harris can hold a tune?
  • just read up about carl harris in colin camerons 'valiant 500'

'left elland road within a week of signing because of home sickness, returning to Wales and working in a factory before Leeds persuaded him to return to the club'..... POOF

    cyril davies 5ft 7in 10st 8lb ...lightweight taff
    graham moore 5ft 11.5in 13st 11lb ... ffat taff
  • Oi, watch it, OoohAaaaaaaaaghh! Graham Moore was my hero.

Established Wales international, ex-Chelsea, ex-Man Utd.

Quality Charlton skipper, good skill on the ball, great tackle, thunderous shot, great vision - and leader of men.
The inspirational skipper and midfield general we are lacking today.

a little bit b4 my time oggy so i checked what colin cameron wrote in 'valiant 500' , not that i wouldn't trust your level headed assessment of graham moore ;-0

    here's what was written
'although he never reached the status of one of the greatest all-time Welsh players, Graham was, nevertheless, an extremely talented and popular performer and pound for pound(sterling)was one of the best Charlton buys since the war. An influential player on, and off, the field, Moore's attacking midfield role at Charlton was worth the admission price alone; so good that it even resurrected his international caeer.'

    he cost £6k
  • Anyone who had had read his autobiography before he joint us would known his political views.

Could not care less what he thinks of the world, if anyone can get us out of this mess then let them have the job.
  • Stay on topic

    GET PAULO IN
  • Politics aside, the bottom line is would he be any good as a manager? The fact is no one knows because he has no experience whatsoever.

A highly gifted player and a charismatic individual yes, but he is completely untried as a manager and the basement of the championship is a long way from the sort of football Di Canio will be used to. It might be amusing for a bit, but there's every chance we'll end up in even more of a mess, (as Valley11 rightly suggests)

Remember Atillio Lombardo didn't do particularly well at Palarse. Di Canio is charismatic, but it's hard to tell whether it's extreme enthusiasm or actual insanity. Putting him in charge would be like giving a shotgun to a monkey

Plus some of his views are reprehensible - the guy likes West Ham for god's sake!

    ;-)

  • Curbishly had no experience

Paolo offers personality, passion and clearly a wide knowledge of football.

He was unquestionably a great player and I appreciate this rarely leads to a good manager

I just feel he could have the "Je ne sais quoi" that could lift us out of the doldrums

Would probably be cheap too - and we could offer a crap basic wage with incentives to keep us up
  • The club are bound to have a problem employing him because he has allowed his somewhat dubious political views to come into the public sphere.

Having said that if it were me I would have him, however it isn't me..
  • [cite]Posted By: Swisdom[/cite]Curbishly had no experience

experience of the championship? playing? reckon he watches it when in italy?

I still keep reading the quote where he states he wishes to be manager of west ham the club he loves and is looking for a club to be his stepping stone.

If you want us to be that stepping stone, then fair enough. and if you want to have the manager keep looking the other side of the river for an opportunity then fine, and if you're happy hearing press conferences where the manager keeps mentioning our east london neighbours then great. There were loads of people on here that hated Curbs and Pards were west ham through and through and we weren't important. He only played for us for a year. I don't want him to earn his "champ coaching" badge with us and then fook off 6 months later not having improved us at all.
  • Most important for me is do I think he would keep us up and maybe even get us up compared to the rest? Not too bothered about anything else. After all Curbs and Pards hankered after westham.. who will soon themselves no doubt be plummeting down the leagues.
  • Since Curbs went, we have been going down faster than a stock market after a dodgy mortgage scam and there's no way that I can accept that the players that we have at the moment are SO bad that Curbs couldn't make them tick better. I look around the upper north and sometime on away trips and see more passion than you'll ever need, but none of us could manage a football club, and before you say 'yes I could', just stick you name in the hat and go for it. No takers?

    Didn't think so.

I agree with 'razil' that it seems that managers that we get seem to be in love with the boleyn, but what we need is a proven master and tactician. That man is Curbs, the only others would be Big Sam, someone like Davies, or even McLeish, not that any of them would come to Charlton?

All this talk of DiCanio is an aside, we somebody who will get us out of trouble and we need them quickly, Ralph, Shrew, you carry on with the free voices, it's a cold day when people want to divorce politics with sport, but only when it's left wing.
  • [cite]Posted By: Swisdom[/cite]Curbishly had no experience

    Not quite right.

He was player reserve team coach under Lennie. Not Oxford or Cambridge qualifications admittedly but he was a qualified coach and had worked with those he had to manage.
  • Remember Atillio Lombardo didn't do particularly well at Palarse
    .................

If I recall he didn't speak any/much English and had a major communication problem.

Roberto di Matteo is doing a good job at MK Dons after joining them with limited managerial experience, but a very different character to di Canio.
  • When i started this it wasnt that serious, just a bit of fun. Now id give it to him 100% if he wants it. For a start the crowd will be up for it with Di Canio in charge and he just might bring in 1 or 3 Italians they and he could nt be WORSE than what he have had over the last 12 months.

Agree 100%....for those of you who think it would a be a bit of a circus well I've got news for ya..... it already is....in fact we're some cheapo circus outfit doing the rounds in small country towns and villages...at least with PDC around we'd be of Billy Smart proportions.
  • What a lift his appointment would be. We ain`t staying up anyway and I rekon he will make a good manager sooner or later. Knows football in Britain and would soon get us playing on the deck. Swansea got out of Div 1 last season by doing it so why couldn`t we. Appoint Paulo I say.
