I do think this is a different type of loan to what Jones has spoken about previously. It’s not a case of developing an untested 19yr old from an academy. This should free up Terry Taylor to move on and takes pressure off Anderson from being our only real cover in midfield.1 -

I do agree that Campbell can, and will, also cover the other midfield positions. He’s just a more natural fit than any of those players (Docherty, Anderson, Berry) at slotting in at DM, should Coventry lose form or get injured.

Never played below Championship level, looks like a real coup for us. I don't think our midfield spots are totally settled, there's still plenty of season to go and no matter how good our preseason was there's no way Coventry and the rest can tear about the pitch like that for 90 minutes every game without getting jaded as it goes on. Being able to rotate players of equal or similar quality is going to be huge this season and it looks like we're setting ourselves up to be able to do it. Just need a left-sided CB and another keeper now and we'll look very good

21 goals and 12 assists for another battling CM/ DM type isn't too shabby either.
Definitely a good spread of goal potential from midfield without having to rely on any one player. Someone with a better goal ratio (and I don't mean a Scott Fraser type 10) would be great but if A Campbell happens that's not too much of a worry when you factor in the forwards.
Doc, Campbell, Anderson and Berry to keep up the tempo and harassing throughout a game to force those mistakes and not gives side a moments peace. Lovely.5 -
The first home match I saw was Charlton's 1-0 win over Plymouth Argyle in September 1967 when the only goal was scored by Alan Campbell. Adding a extra 'l' to his first name can't disguise the fact that the guy must be at least 78 by now....3

He wouldn’t because we already have Cooper, who sounds very similar to Mitchell, but with more experience. Cooper needs a Tanganga type defender alongside him. Maybe in a couple of years he could have replaced Cooper, but it doesn’t sound like he was ready to wait.DDOUBLEE said:

First and foremost, I do see him as Conor Coventry competition but I can also see midfield trios of Coventry, Campbell and Docherty for horrible away days like Birmingham, Bolton and Huddersfield.

I suspect that Campbell knows how Jones works and what he demands. The type of game that Jones wants will require a rest for every player fairly regularly. Seems to me that Jones want 2 players for every position and doesn't want to rely on Academy kids for this. Makes sense in a way. How many times have we seen our season fall apart because of injuries meaning we have to throw 18 & 19 year old kids who have little first team experience.22

Is he out of contract at Luton next season?
If so, it’s another sensible move by Jones. Not a loan for loans sake but a chance to get a championship player in who, if it works out for both sides, will sign when we’re in the championship ;-)1 -
