Alex Dyer was there last night apparently. Might be his number two. We could end up with a Duff appointment having Dyer consequences 😉soapboxsam said:We can't afford another Duff manager 😱
Name I would like to see, but I am not sure we could get him Lee Carsley.
I sort of hoped they are going to act swiftly and decisively to install a preferred candidate of real pedigree.
I worry that they are just going to invite applications and hope there is someone good or, worse still, it was sack first think later
I heard Jones and Warnock mentioned.. No idea if they have spoken.. As I mentioned the other day, things have gone quiet.
Warnock as a stop gab to keep us up would make a lot of sense.0 -
Id have struggled to name him - just anonymous in my opinion.YannTheMann said:O'Donnell gets the chop too

He’s proven at this level… was very successful at a club similar in stature to where we are now. I’d argue he is for usLincsaddick said:

I am going to pitch for Bowyer here, just as I did before Appleton.
I read someone mention the obsession with a “Charlton link”, I actually think it’s a bit deeper than that now to be honest.
For me, I have not seen, not even close to, such a galvanised fanbase and group of players like the one that was created when Bowyer took over. I recall it being very rough before then, up to the only other previous manager who had got a tune out of a team like that before…..Chris Powell.
Ex players of that standing knew what was expected from the fanbase having previously experienced it first-hand. Nothing but putting 100% effort in for the shirt is required, as a minimum.
The Valley can be a tough place to play when the fans are fully behind the manager and the team, that has been mentioned by new signings previously.
I’m sure everyone will remember the Play Off Final. Our current owners (Methven and Rodwell) were in the stands watching their team that day. If they had much business sense, they would have seen that the opposition (us!), had a manager that a squad of players were all playing for and there was a feeling of togetherness in that side. That was created by who was putting the players on the pitch and his backroom staff. Even that post match team talk in the dressing room afterwards – the players fully understood what it meant that day….and so did Bowyer.
We can question some tactical issues that arose sometimes for sure, I think that happens with modern football sometimes, especially with the ever-changing scope of what is happening in game these days. But togetherness and ‘fight for the shirt’ wins points across the season alone.
In my opinion, Duff is not the guy. He may well have had success elsewhere, but he also had time. We do not have time at present. Especially for someone to come in, get use to the place, their surroundings, no doubt move family down, implement playing styles, etc etc. I just don’t think we have time for that.
We need someone who can galvanise this squad of players immediately and for me that is a “Charlton link” who can get their message across before we are in serious trouble.

So this is the problem. We have an interim set up in place - with the premise that we cant rush it and get it wrong.
But here's the thing. We fucking well have to rush it! We have 17 or 18 games to go, a horror show of a Feb, and are spiralling towards league 2. Its like sitting on the fucking Titanic when there is water pouring in the dining room and you want to make sure you finish your bread pudding before finding a way off.
Sometimes in life you need to get things done.
There is no time to fart around and try and find out if a potentially decent manager (Rowett, Duff, Jones would be mad to come near us) will take a chance on us.
Find someone who loves this club enough to WANT to save us, and perhaps has enough money in the bank to not be at a 'career critical' point.

The ultimate Charlton quiz question will be to name all the coaches since Curbs left.shirty5 said:

Call me crazy with our current plight but I'd take Jason Euell. I know he is highly rated as a coach and yes, lacks managerial experience but only one way to get that. Been in the game for a long term and I've heard he is fantastic with the players in terms of man-management and connection which I think we desperately need. Also would have the backing of the fans.2

IF its really interim and needed for this weekend (and not just practically needed for the next day or two) what was the order of events since Saturday?
When was he really told / what were players told & when and by who?0 -

I think Euell is a crazy suggestion tbh. We are in a historic downward slump and can't be taking such a risk on anyone so untested.25

Exactly. The club won’t say, because the set-up is a shambles.valleynick66 said:IF its really interim and needed for this weekend (and not just practically needed for the next day or two) what was the order of events since Saturday?

The proof of the pudding will be the calibre of the manager that finally joins us. If he's shite it's because nobody decent wants to work for Andy Scott.
We will see but I think I have an idea of what will happen.2 -
Currently it feels like Andy Scott comes on here to get suggestions on transfer targets and potential coaches

But joking aside I assume they are actually going to be inundated with agents pushing various candidates and so names will emerge quite soon who are in serious contention.0 -
No way , I remember your doom mongering at the start of the season when we were all enthusiastic and looking forward to our magical new owners and brilliant players and squad building together , spoiling all our fun cos your mate Varney and Barclay weren’t the owners . Well you were wrong it’s a lot worse .Airman Brown said:

But I also think it's crazy to think that Michael Duff, Nathan Jones, and Steve Cooper (LOL) would come here.Chunes said:I think Euell is a crazy suggestion tbh. We are in a historic downward slump and can't be taking such a risk on anyone so untested.
People forget that the Stockport & Peterborough Managers both didn't even entertain a conversation with us.
So sticking with purely realistic options, we don't have many options available.0 -
Too much inexperience with the interims. Dangerous game.0

I’d give Flemming and Pearce Saturday with a view to appointing a new manager early next week ahead of a huge game at reading.0

We are not the most attractive proposition at the moment but we can do better than someone with no track record.Addick_8 said:

Good result Saturday and I would expect Fleming to stay in charge until end of season, isn't this the reason he was brought in, in the first place3
-
Id bring back Cubs overseeing someone like Jason Pearce or Euell with Steve Brown as defensive coach.
Curbs and Brownie call it spot on from Charlton live - they see the issues and know how to fix them - Its not a long term solution but at the moment we have a short term issue.
They know the club and the fans would back them for certain.
Curbs never got sacked - he left of his own reasons.2 -
Bowyer and Powell are our two best managers in the last 15-odd years both had no track records.Chunes said:

However, I get your point2 -
Don't you think an out of work manager more likely to come? Attracting someone in work I would agree would be more than likely impossible.Addick_8 said:

Not suggesting Cooper would for one minute by the way but the others may be interested0 -
Judging on past experience, Andy Scott doesn't understand that a manager has to have, not only the players belief, but also the crowds. I do recall the response on here when the news of Appleton being given an interview broke and the response was a universal Noooo. I think only Lee Johnson had a higher disapproval rating at the time. I often wonder if that feeling was shared by the players.2

I thought they approached Powell before MA, but only temporary position and he turned it down, perhaps if they offer a permanent position, he might be interested4
