Who will be the new Charlton coach? - p103. Nathan Jones confirmed

  • I want someone unknown, random and exotic... like a random youth coach from Leverkusen

failing that all the above named names would be good.  Jones also favours the 352 system.
  • Give Euell the job as Manager... He was great working with the U21s, a few I imagine are now in the Seniors?

He's then got the knowledge of having worked with Curtis Fleming before as his No.2 - The risk is it doesn't work, and we're royally fucked, you could argue thats the case with anyone you appoint, Euell could be a disaster, he could also be a rip roaring success.
I think we need someone with a lot of experience to get us out of this league.
I'd have no problem with Euell as a number Two  to give him experience but it's not the right time to make him manager.
  • I'm not sure it's the time to chuck in a raw inexperienced coach for his 1st job as manager.

We need someone with experience to turn this situation round, set up properly and tactically aware.

    Easier said than done.

  • Just as I asked yesterday who exactly sacked Appleton, who exactly appoints his replacement?
  • Danny Dyer was at the game apparently.

    Pass it on.
Yeah, he was filming scenes for his new film ‘Marching Powder’. He was seen shouting at Appleton as he was being escorted off the premises. Appleton reacted and it turned into a free for all. ‘And Cut … that’s a wrap’. Thank you Mr Appleton, you’re no longer required.

Euell keen on a return. Wouldn't mind him as part of someone's coaching setup but don't think it's the right situation for a first time No1
If we were safely in upper mid table then I’d understand a gamble on Euell, Pearce or similar. It might not work out but it could really pay off, far better than going with an Appleton or a Slade.

Where we are now though it’s too much of a risk for me. We’ve spent on players, think we need to do the same on a manager. Someone in a job who’s on the up, or someone a lot more proven who can be convinced to step down to L1.

I must admit I did like the idea from Dubai earlier of Lee Carsley, would be a bit of a gamble as he's not got loads of club experience but he's done an excellent job with the England U21s.
Carsley is being lined up for the Republic of Ireland job
  • I see everyone’s point about wanting someone solid but QPR and the massives both went left field for their appointments and have gone from looking doomed to having a fighting chance. An improvement like that gets us mid table.

  • Incoming … Ban for Mick Collins

  • Powell for me.  Could be heart ruling head but he'd keep us up, give everyone a lift & attendance would improve dramatically i think.

God I love that man ❤

Someone with similar experience to Powell and Bowyer you mean - If anything, Euell has more experience than those two, in terms of what they had done prior to joining us
  • I don't think we're in the position to be gambling with someone like Euell or Pearce
Or Powell or Bowyer. Gary Rowett for me, if he was interested. A very good 4 years at Millwall - while they are not a basket case club like us, he still has a good record. Can't seem him coming here but think he would be a good appointment

This was obviously on the cards so you would like to think someone is lined up. Appears from the noise Jones. I would be happy with this.
It depends who leaked the Nathan Jones story doesn’t it? I wouldn’t pay much attention to it if it’s Methven and Scott. They did the same with Darren Ferguson and he rejected us instantly.

That's my point that surely they have sounded someone out and got a positive reaction back and with Jones being linked so quickly it points to him.

If they have not even sounded out anyone that would be a worry.
  • Jones has a 43% win ratio
    duff 42.5%
    Rowett 40%

We need someone with these sort of ratios

bowyer and Powell are both less than 40%, we need better
Not saying we should get him back but Bowyer's win rate was over 40% with us, and that's despite a season in the championship with a squad that was decimated with injuries for a while. There was a period where we were forced to play the likes of Lapslie, Dempsey, Vennings, Davison and David Davis plus we had Hemed play about 20 games and he never scored.
I think that killed the bloke and yet we only went down because of a shit referee in the Barnsley match. He had lost it at the end but there are only so many slaps in the face a man can take, and his weakness is he is a petulant cnut. But that can also be a strength and I wouldn't be averse to him having another go at it. I also recall us jumping for joy when Douchebag sold the club to ESI for a pound and seperated the assets and Bowyer bringing us back to reality in the beginning, clearly seeing through it all.

He put a great team together to get us promoted. Got the most out of existing players and some great additions. Unfortunately the team was ripped apart after promotion with loanees returing to their clubs and others leaving. Then Covid and a couple of players refusing to play. Plus his tenure was during the really Barming ownership years.
  • not sure it's fair of Mick to say there's no money, there clearly is and we're spending it

we just need the right man to manage a decent squad
  • What a sorry looking list that is , Lee Johnson 2nd fav? No thanks couldn’t think of anything worse , Ainsworth might be a shout of those journey men really

Has to be someone with experience in coaching 352

Which narrows the list down to Duff.
Or a diamond would work with the players we have.

Agree 3-5-2 really shouldn't be set in stone and when defending it becomes 5-3-2 in an instant as long as you don't lose the ball in transition in your oppositions half, though twin strikers is a good idea as isolated central strikers are a rare skill and only Chuks can be good at that and Miles will be one day on a consistent basis.

Have Watched professional coaching with  academy players (trying to get a pro contract) and being taught flexibility in changing shape/formations during matches  I'm surprised when Cafc players struggle to adapt to the basics of two CB's not on the same wavelengths when one tries to play off side while the other hangs back. This should be learnt while they are still young teens if they have had any basic training to working in tandem.

At least Edun on the left and Watson on the right worked last night in an attacking sense when our two goals were scored; both in the box on their side of the pitch either scoring or waiting to pounce.

We can't afford another Duff manager 😱
Alex Dyer was there last night apparently. Might be his number two. We could end up with a Duff appointment having Dyer consequences 😉
Are you sure he wasn't there scouting.. Not sure we need Dyer!

Name I would like to see, but I am not sure we could get him Lee Carsley.
It kind of depresses me that the people who leaked you the information that Appleton was being sacked apparently given you no hint of who they have in mind to replace him.
I sort of hoped they are going to act swiftly and decisively to install a preferred candidate of real pedigree.
I worry that they are just going to invite applications and hope there is someone good or, worse still, it was sack first think later
They certainly have targets, the issue is are they coming..

I heard Jones and Warnock mentioned.. No idea if they have spoken.. As I mentioned the other day, things have gone quiet.
That’s the problem, numerous managers turned us down last time (probably more than we heard about) and we were left with Appleton. Now the job is even less appealing. The real problem here is the clowns in charge. For anyone who wanted to give Methven the benefit of doubt, despite a terrible reputation, can I ask, how’s it going? Are you now convinced he’s an amateurish chancer, or do you need more time?
Not sure how you worked out to point fingers at Methven? Playing side, is all down to Scott!
Because he appointed Scott and is still keeping Scott in a job. He decided the structure of having a DOF, which I’m sure is putting half of the potential managers off. Who wants someone above them signing unfit lightweight players and having to sort it out on the ‘grass’. The whole SMT is a laughing stock and Charlie sits at the top of that pile. We knew he was an idiot from the Sunderland doc and although he’s tried to distance himself from the day to day running he’s still managing to cock it up, big time!

I would rather have fucking Fraeye back over Ainsworth! The guys a fraud and would almost definitely take us down.

Duff personally would be my choice, so would be very happy with him. Eustace, Pearson and Cotterrill would be the only others I'd be fine with. Don't know too much about Toshack, but a no thanks on the others.

    Full list.

If we want an ex-player Andrew Crofts is 16/1.

Jon Toshack’s son Cameron is 12/1 ex-Pafos FC manager for someone random.

Andy Scott 25/1 if he decides he can do it better himself.
  • From that list Duff is the standout, then Eustace.

Cameron Toshack a random one , only been a No1 in Cyprus, managed Swansea U21s for a while it seems

Why do some have this obsession with needing someone who has a connection to the club?
We have had the most success in recent years with someone connected to the club in charge.  At this point, with the disconnect between the fans, the management and the new owners, bringing in someone with good standing in the fans eyes will be a great way to immediately get the fans on-side and start to generate a better more positive atmosphere at The Valley.  This may not help to win matches alone, but it will have an affect.  The rest would be up to the players and the coaching staff obviously, but knowing the fans are right behind them will definitely give them a massive lift.
  • Please god not Lee Johnson!!! He'd be the worst fucking choice!!
