I see where you’re coming from but, should the player and his agent have a change of mind, they only have to pick up the phone and, depending upon where we are at that stage, there’s nothing to stop us reinstating our offer to him.Henry Irving said:
No point giving a deadline IMHO, you're just limiting yourself and possibly closing a door for no reason. There is already the 1 Feb deadline.Blucher said:
My thought was that giving JCH and his agent a deadline may prompt them into action in the absence of any better offers, rather than waiting until deadline day to see if a better offer comes along. Time is of the essence for us, if not for the player.ShootersHillGuru said:
Definitely pursue other targets and if they fit our criteria then sign them but why withdraw the offer to JCH until that other player is signed. We can withdraw it at any point. I’m not sure what withdrawing it achieves.Blucher said:JCH and his agent are understandably trying to squeeze us and utilise our attractive offer as leverage should another club come in for him.I think we really do need to impose something like a 7 day deadline and, if necessary, withdraw the offers to Peterborough and the player and move on to an alternative target. We definitely need to get a striker in but part of me would be very happy to see JCH run down his contract, leaving Peterborough and the mouthy MacAnthony without any fee whatsoever. The guy is such an arse.
it also opens the door to offering Peterborough a reduced fee if all else fails. MacAnthony continually trumpets that they don’t need to sell and are under no financial pressure but I think the gentleman protests too loudly (and often). They are also very anxious to flog their England Under 20 centre-half.
Carry on negotiating with JCH's agent and at the same time see if Humphreys or whoever can be signed. If the other striker deal is done then you can say to JCH's agent "sorry, couldn't wait for you to bring your demands down, see you in the summer".
If we can't get another striker then the door is still open to get JCH.
I wouldn’t be surprised if JCH let’s his contract run down, although the big risk for any player is a significant injury between now and then.0 -

I have heard his wife has a couple of big melons6

Offer Peterborough £250k for JCH and use the saving to enhance our offer to him.
Or they can see him walk away for nothing in the summer.

He has a sad looking dog. It’s a border collie. It’s Mellen’s collie.11

Much I like a pun… please start a Big Melon thread. There’s nothing more annoying than seeing that there are dozens of new posts on this thread, to find they’re all about honey being due or something.9

Not sure any of this holds any Water*****!
Bless my Dad, as a kid at a restaurant in London Bridge area he asked for the Honeydew Melon, but without the honey, as he was sure the melon would be sweet enough 🤣🤣 A proper Delboy moment and I got a clip for laughing my little head off. My Dad was clearly not dragged around Tesco Lewisham every Friday evening for shopping…7 -
How about abit of underhand tactic's with Peterborough to unsettle them before the game. Make an 'offer" for Poku ( through the media) to see if it interests him or rattles Peterborough. If their interested , well he seems to be an up and coming player anyway0

If we sign Micheal let's hope he's not cantalouping around like Kirk did2

JCH deal as good as dead according to the other forum. I hope we make a move for Humphrys, I feel he would be better fit for us.1

Disappointing I hoped we would have secured at least 1 perm by now.charlton_hero said:JCH deal as good as dead according to the other forum. I hope we make a move for Humphrys, I feel he would be better fit for us.2 -

Deadline day scramble to sign a striker and we announce free agent (after he didn’t get his contract renewed) Lyle Taylor just before the deadline 🤮0
-
Then Lyle refuses to play as he's got something lined up for the end of the season. Big big school offer.2

or even worse:Dizzle said:Deadline day scramble to sign a striker and we announce free agent (after he didn’t get his contract renewed) Lyle Taylor just before the deadline 🤮Charlton Athletic are delighted to announce the loan signing of striker Slobodan Tedić from Premier League champions Manchester City.
The 6ft 3in, 23-year-old joins the Addicks for a second time in this 2023/24 season after an impressive 2 goals in 12 appearances in 2023.

JCH obviously doesn't want to join us even with a hefty wage increase.
Lets withdraw our offer and move on ...

I suggested him 2 or 3 years ago when he was an exciting starlet at Col U. Totally agree with this ! if the bloke is taking this much time to decide then he isnt worth the wait. If he isnt commited to the move then it will be a flop. Not the clubs fault they are obviously trying to spend money but you cant force players to signBroadstairs_Red said:JCH obviously doesn't want to join us even with a hefty wage increase.

How do people even know he's stalling?
Impatient weirdos14 -
Our offer has happened over the last few days. The player made his mind up months, even a year ago that he wasn't signing a new contract at peterboroughStu_of_Kunming said:

he must have had many a conversation with his agent during that time about what his options are and what package he is after. Our offer either falls short and we all move on or it's within the scales discussed all year with his agent and he accepts. The only new parts to the equation are playing l1 again for a mid table side and moving to this area. The other parts should be a quick and easy to agree/reject2 -
Agree...hair's quite nice as well...🙄ElfsborgAddick said:J BLOCK said:
