Appleton is up there with how I felt about Russel Slade coming in. Vanilla.31

I've got it, Carlos González Juárez
Manager of Canadian top flight side Atlético Ottawa. Who had them top of their division.
I mean the Indian Super League is ranked 238 in all professional football leagues (League 1 is ranked 63rd as a comparison)
I am sure he can come in and make us champions like Des Buckingham would have1 -
Whoever takes over I hope has ensured a nice pay off when they get the sack.
We are a CV wrecker.1 -

I suspect Cowley is a decent human being. But do we really want one of those? Don't we actually need someone to kick arse and be a nasty piece of work?Valleyofdreams said:I really hope it’s not Appleton. He won’t exactly bring the fans back and his record is poor. Would rather Cowley if had to pick between the two. He always comes across as a decent human being.1 -
I've heard announcement later today, but who knows might have changed their mind or been turned down by then.4

Interesting to see how much fanfare there is about the appointment as if it’s Appleton/Cowley there will be massive backlash and if it’s someone unknown they can’t do something elaborate. That said, the announcement of Holden was madly low key1

No-one, footballer or otherwise, wants a boss who is a nasty piece of work.cafcfan said:

There is a big difference between commanding respect through a firm set of expected behaviours and being a nasty piece of work, we need the former not the latter.22 -

It’s going to be Appleton, won’t be anyone in a job as it would have been reported.3

If any of the applicants came out with that answer when asked why they want the job, I hope they were asked how soon they could start.Wheresmeticket? said:Sometimes you have to get a job, even if it is shit.
That's our talent pool.

On the positive side I'm convinced Appleton or Cowley will be a big upgrade on Holden. Whether they will be good enough to get us in the top 6 from a standing start remains to be seen but I'll give them a chance.9
-
I will also add that I really hope whoever gets the job has the opportunity to bring in their own coaching team as otherwise we will continue to see the elements of an amateurly coached team that has led us to where we are.6

imperative that they be allowed to bring in a trusted right hand man.Jac_52 said:I will also add that I really hope whoever gets the job has the opportunity to bring in their own coaching team as otherwise we will continue to see the elements of an amateurly coached team that has led us to where we are.1 -
We got rid of the coaches except our set piece "expert" Anthony Hayes when we fired Holden so I assume the new Head Coach will at least get a say in it......Jac_52 said:I will also add that I really hope whoever gets the job has the opportunity to bring in their own coaching team as otherwise we will continue to see the elements of an amateurly coached team that has led us to where we are.
You'd hope!0 -

I think it will be another season of treading water if he comes in. Pointless.AdTheAddicK said:Appleton is up there with how I felt about Russel Slade coming in. Vanilla.2 -
The fact that this man, who was a meme on this site before memes were even a thing is actually going to be our next manager sums up how fucking horrific it is. Piss poor

Shame Bows didn't apply - doesn't really add up with the reports from people saying he'd said he wanted it. But each to their own I guess.
I agree, Appleton would be boring.2 -
I dunno. He's took on some hard gigs. Probably even sells himself at interview as someone who can handle/'thrive in' crisis situations.DDOUBLEE said:The fact that this man, who was a meme on this site before memes were even a thing is actually going to be our next manager sums up how fucking horrific it is. There was one place where he seemed to hold on too long and earned the meme status- maybe went too far and maybe even tacitly countenanced or defended the owners, possibly Blackpool?
Regardless of his past reputation, he's a professional in his field and deserves respect for that and a chance to show what he's got, in my humble opinion.

Appleton has recently been doing commentary work for BBC radio Leicester. Here are his views and insights on Leicester's recent win at Huddersfield- first 17 minutes;

He lacks some charisma but thats ok right?

Either Cowley or Appleton will mark the completion of our transition from one of the bigger League One clubs to an established mid table one. That's why they are depressing appointments.
Both of them would be metaphorically holding a mirror to our face of how far we've sunk.14
