But he could still play if not move!0
-
Unfortunately some have already written him off and there’s nothing he can do to change minds.
He was the summer signing I was most excited about. There is talent there but we’ve yet to see it, mostly for reasons out of the lad’s control.11 -
Whether it’s 3-5-2 or 4-3-3 Holden likes to play 1 holding midfielder with 2 attacking 8s either side. That’s how he set up at Bristol City as well. I don’t see where McGrandles fits into that other than as Dobsons back up. Probably on pretty good wages so quite an expensive backup to keep around0
-
People writing him off and his hardly played. I'm prepared to see what he can do, given a run in the side. The injuries are unfortunate, he's lacking match fitness, as observed in this afternoons U21 game, so why write him off?
People could be right that he's pants, or maybe pleasantly surprised, who knows?
Adkins didn't rate Dobbo, how wrong was he!2 -
Doesn't sound like we'll know much about deals going by this:
Holden said: “I won’t comment at all. It’s really important to me, coming into the job, that we do our work on the quiet because every time a comment comes out publicly it drives rumours and interest. We don’t want to alert any clubs either, in terms of what we’re doing in terms of players coming in or out.”
As it was in the good old days & as it should be I guess.
May as well close the rumours thread now

Isn't McGrandles more of an 8 than a defensive player? He certainly prefers to be more attackingNabySarr said:Whether it’s 3-5-2 or 4-3-3 Holden likes to play 1 holding midfielder with 2 attacking 8s either side. I appreciate what Holden says but the longer it goes on without us signing the more worried I will get. Especially when the sales are happening such as JFC.0
-
I think he prefers it but I just can’t see him scoring/creating enough to be what we are missing as our 3rd midfielder alongside Dobson and Fraser. I’m sure he will get a go there but in my opinion we definitely need a new signing there that has got the energy that Morgan or Gilbey has (and McGrandles probably would have if he was fit) but a bit more quality in the final thirdkillerandflash said:

I think our midfield three, if we play a three is Dobson, Fraser and Payne and we need another player in there to pick from. Dobson earns a place despite not scoring many so the other two need to be able to score and create and I see Fraser and Payne as the only two that come close to fitting that bill who we currently have and who is ready. I would prefer a player with a great shot as this is an area we are a bit lacking in IMO.0

But it won't stop the rumours from drying up completely. Charlton are not the only party involved in negotiations, ins or outs.

Depends. If we're genuinely going to keep CBT, JRS and Leaburn up front regularly, with Fraser as a 10, we can expect the other midfielder alongside Dobson to be more defensive. If CBT and JRS are going to be asked to constantly track back, or Fraser asked to defend, we need a more attacking bod. Either way, the answer isn't Kirk, DJ, Henry (yet) or Morgan, and I'd be (pleasantly) shocked if it's McGrandles.MuttleyCAFC said:I think our midfield three, if we play a three is Dobson, Fraser and Payne and we need another player in there to pick from. And nothing you can do if the player goes & sits in The Valley cafe & tells all & sundry that he's signing for Charlton.Callumcafc said:

Yeah that would definitely be my first choice 3 at the moment. But still unconvinced on Payne as he’s been quite inconsistent so could do with another option that will add goals to the team. I don’t think Morgan, Gilbey, McGrandles or Henry fit the billMuttleyCAFC said:I think our midfield three, if we play a three is Dobson, Fraser and Payne and we need another player in there to pick from. We had Championship club competition for McGrandles and my Lincoln supporting mate said he was very consistently good for them (a la Dobson style). We as fans see some players’ performances a bit binary at times forgetting we are watching professional rather than park footie and these players are given very specific instructions to follow in game, or able to do what they like and play how they prefer to play. I have an inkling based on what my Imps mate has told me that it was anticipated that McG would be doing the Dobbo role this season, but Dobbo proved to Garner early on that he was not for benching and since, in the scant opportunities McG has had, he has not been able to play ‘his’ preferred game type. May be wrong of course, but I struggle to accept that this player is as ‘pony’ as some believe, his past club performances and transfer competition considered.Arguably, Stockley, at least in part, has been a victim of formation and instructions too which do not fit his style of play. He works better in the traditional front two with a channel runner or nippier type who gives him time to find a bit of space for headers from crosses etc. Isolated as a lone striker with his lack of movement just leaves him marked out and frustrated with literally everybody on the pitch including himself. In hindsight, a completely fcuked up summer transfer window policy is the root cause of a lot of these issues. Computer says fcuk off!10

Weighing in on the Mcgrandles thread. Describes himself as a box to box player first and likes to get forward and be attacking but can play deeper.
I don't know about "hate" as such, just hasn't lived up to some of the hype he was getting when signed I think. As a self described attacking player his stats to date aren't that great. Still plenty of time for him to prove himself though. Seems to be a consistent type which would be perfect this season with so many flip flop players in the side!1 -

A friend of mine a Lincoln fan described Mcgrandles as average and often goes missing . Bang on so far.CL_Phantom said:Weighing in on the Mcgrandles thread. Describes himself as a box to box player first and likes to get forward and be attacking but can play deeper.

Totally agree. I thought we had learned the lesson of leaving our business until the last minute. Other clubs, Plymouth, Bolton, Barnsley etc seem to be able to sign players, why not us?
