Is Docherty match fit if we sign him? Can he play Saturday?
Hasn't played since August so who knows.

Why are people surprised? MS has been very honest and transparent about the club's plans in the transfer market and yet somehow people were expecting something entirely different. I think many still seem to be getting over the disappointment that we're clearly not the next Man City.
MS he would only LT if a silly offer came in, by that I was taking it to mean 10 million plus
I took it that an offer would mean Toney or similar then affordable.

JHC and Maddison maybe what we are looking at though. Would love Pedro in from Liverpool as well though!

Re shopping in the "bargain basement".

    1) You wouldn't offer 5 million for a player who's club would accept less. Even if you could.

    2) Who that would cost serious money, would sign for us now?

Our market, for permanent signings, is totally limited to players who can't get a game at "bigger clubs" or the better players at smaller league 1 or lower clubs.  If we had say got Maddison, Cullen, Mowatt and Marriott in early, others might have followed with the confidence we would stay up. But you can have all the money in the world its not always that easy to spend it.
  • Something does not make sence, this is slightly different to RD

We've made a decent bid for Maddison, but couldn't agree personal terms, Birmingham are in the same boat, so not really a disappointment.

    1m on JCH,

If Lyle goes to Brentford for 4m, I feel at least 3m will be reinvested which could mean we are in for an interesting 24 hrs.

I don't think ESI would sell Taylor, bring in SCH (considering we've lost Conor and Kayel)

I understand why people are worried, I have been too. But untill Lyle actually leaves at this moment in time it's pure speculation

On deadline day deals happen, so let's wait and see.

I am going to sit in a dark room and rock a while to move away from all of these doom merchants...

See you on the other side.

and with JCH and Maddison we are buying players that are in form this season rather than injured players looking for game time or resurrect careers.

  • Don't get why JCH coming in for a reported 1m should necessarily mean Taylor is off.

It's 1m. That's peanuts in todays footballing world. If we're not prepared to spend 1m to strengthen our striking options regardless of whether Taylor stays or goes, then serious questions will be asked of these owners.

If ESI hadn't got the dosh we must be the only club ever get brought by "Middle East money" that ain't got any ----- but it's very very Charlton

Well as far as we know they haven’t bought anything yet.

The other day the chairman was talking about Middle East sponsorship & that companies were more likely to sponsor us because of their relationship with our new “owner” rather than because of the product or something along those lines, sorry can’t be arsed to search for exact quote. (I’m sure somebody else will) What if TN doesn’t want to invest his own money in the project & talk of sponsorship is actually ESI scrabbling around for investment in the Middle East in much the same way as we are led to believe that the Aussies were ? EFL ? Maybe the Belgian agreed to defer payment for 6 months to enable ESI to raise the necessary funds through outside sponsorship/investment & in the meantime they would cover the running costs of the club. Should sufficient funding not be raised within this time TN (or others?) have a legal agreement to cover any shortfall which could explain the current lack of any championship quality signings. Far fetched ? Maybe, let’s see where we are at 23.00 Friday.

I think this is definitely possible and have been thinking the same.

So Cawley is adamant that Clarke-Harris would be a Taylor replacement. You can kinda see the logic, sell Taylor for a couple of Million and invest it in a 25 year old who scored 20 in his last 29 league appearances on a 3 year deal. Or lose Taylor in the summer and lose that £2m.
Lose Taylor now and lose our Champ status. Would cost £5million off the bat in lost revenue straight away, for each season we stay down there! Would mean £15 million set aside for training ground is used over three years instead. This could very well happen!

Or keep Taylor stay up and wave him on his merry way!

That update from Rich this morning doesn’t fill me with hope. Unless Lee is bluffing.

Cawleys latest quotes with Bow sounds like he is very frustrated.

"We are relying on people doing us favours" what the fuck does that mean?

Was just about to quote the same thing. Bit concerning.

Who was the last player we bought for over £1 million? Sarr possibly?

It is peanuts, if you have an official peanut partner, but it's money that our club doesn't generate.  With our "lowest budget in the Championship" AND selling Dijksteel we are still only going to be close to break even. Increased revenue would allow the wage bill to go up but any transfer fees will still have to be "subbed" by the owner.

Read that as a warning from Bowyer to the chairman not to sell Taylor, and to please get some players in. Starting to get twitchy...

Bowyer forcing the pressure on Southall now. A little cry for help in a way. With saying it’s not just him, it’s the players as well, he’s left it up to Southall to deliver.

Agree. It paints a very dark picture. "We haven't made a million-pound bid for anyone" makes it sound like there's no money available. And "relying on favours" sounds like it's desperation time.

Are we still in "chill" mode?

Bowyer is wrong, players can leave the squad, especially our star player as we've been told so on this thread by posters.
  • Doesn't sound too promising :/

I don’t know if those quotes are massively edited but that doesn’t sound good at all. What does he mean by favours? That we are only after loans? Is he downplaying how much money we have to work with to try and get the best deals? Really weird quotes.

Think its because no one likes January. So late in the window now that if you are going to sell someone then they need to be surplus or you have a replacement ready so you end up relying on other people to make sure there happy before we can do business.

    My take on it anywho!

Or we aint buying...only loaning players!

If we’ve not bid £1m for anyone that would seem likely we never had a bid accepted for Maddison or made that bid for JCH.

That doesn’t sound good at all, baffling in fact as that doesn’t tie in with what Matt Southall and Gallen have said about making bids for players and marquee signings, I hope it’s a bluff but it’s concerning to say the least, relying on loans again. Someone’s telling lies as we’ve clearly made bids for Maddison and Cawley thinks we have for Clarke Harris, Charlton never do things the easy way do we.

    Loans.
And doesn’t sound like Lee and Gallen have much of a budget if we’re nowhere near offering a million for JCH.

Which would go completely against what the Peterborough chairman has been continually saying. Really not sure what to make of LB’s comments.

If he had six months left on his contract, definitely told them he wasn't going to sign a new one, and they weren't going to play him anyway, I doubt the bid accepted was even 1 million.

So we haven't bid a million for anyone yet had a bid accepted for Maddison 3 weeks ago? Something (quite literally) doesn't add up right now
