So we haven't had a bid accepted for Maddison then?CharltonByBlood said:Not wetting the bed just yet. However, I find it fascinating that under RD we were bidding 4M for players in the league below but with this lot, 1 bid which I think was laughed at for the Bristol Rovers striker, other than that we have only heard about a couple of loans - One of which a player that can not get into a team in the SPL...We need bodies, let's not mess about. ESI need time I agree but they could either get off to a rocky start or great start and no signings, in my opinion, welcomes the rocky start.

IS that aimed at our new chairman?Addickhead86 said:I think many people have unrealistic expectations of a January transfer window, especially for a club of our size and position in the food chain.1 -
Everybody's leaving the bulk of their business to the last couple of days.
The number of reported transfers today is much higher than yesterday, very few at all before then.
The merry go round has started later and slower than usual, perhaps. Just means it will spin faster over the next 48hours.
We had no warning that ESI were even talking to the twunt, let alone building a deal. We had no idea who was involved in ESI. Until it happened.
There was little or no talk around Andre Green coming in or Chelsea taking CG away - until it happened.
The sole reason the squad today is threadbare and lacking quality in crucial areas, is cos the twunt is the twunt and twunted around with CAFC for 6 years. His negligent mismanagement was so bad for so long that arresting the decline, let alone reversing the direction of travel in just 4 weeks is a delusion worthy of the twunt himself.
There are still at least 3 squads in this division weaker and less well managed than Charlton's is today. The next 3 months ain't gonna be pretty, fun or comfortable and we supporters can't do anything about that, beyond cheering loudly when players do good things and grumbling quietly when they blunder.

Looking at what we know:
Madison ,we agreed a fee but not his own money.Brum are out so it's us ,Hull or stay at Pboro who are in the play offs.------- Possible but would have already happened I think.
forward from Blackpool. We wanted him in summer he scored goals this season price goes up and we walk away( even tho we are minted !!) ----- not likely
Rangers reserve on loan. Us or Sunderland. Still a poss but more likely Sunderland .
Forward on loan Norwich. They appear to want to keep him as back up.Still poss but unlikely.
Parrot from Spurs. Cant see them.letting him come to us ,probably end up at one of the team's pushing for promotion of a lower Prem side
Progba,s brother.Although it's said he is only training with us i see this as a last gasp desperation signing and is possible.
Guy from Shamrock Rovers.I think we will sign him.
Rank really
We always have hope as LB says0 -
"Leaving all our business til the last day" suggests that we are controlling the agenda and I am sceptical that is now the case.RC_CAFC said:It looks to me that we are leaving all our business till the last day. I suspect we have a few deals that are all dependant on whether other players are signed. Realistically anyone we get in now won't be starting on Saturday so I guess it doesn't make too much odds whether it is now or 10.50 on Friday evening.
I suspect we have engaged in negotiations and made offers, but to date no signings.
This could be because other clubs are waiting for replacements, or target players are hedging their bets, or simply that we couldn't squeeze our target players into the "model" budget.
I share your feeling that no new players will be in the starting 11 on Saturday.
However, I am fairly confident we will get one or two in but I suspect they won't be names that excite.
Sorry, but pessimists gotta pessimise

Very good points made. Noted.Cafc_lifer said:
The 4m bid was in the summer when the market is completely different. If you're going to compare ESI to RD then at the moment you can only compare the January window. Last January we sold one of our best strikers and replaced him with Parker... This Jan we're willing to make nothing on Taylor and keep him until the end of his contract.CharltonByBlood said:Not wetting the bed just yet. Also what's the difference between having a 4m bid rejected under RD to having undisclosed bids rejected under ESI? End of the day the result is the same.
We have made bids for players this window but it's a sellers and players market, we can't make people sell or players join.

Not unreasonable though to have higher expectations now, going from a hated owner with no interest in the club and wanting to sell, to ambitious new owners who deliberately bought the club (excluding the stadium and training ground) BECAUSE of the importance of the January window.Cafc_lifer said:

And to be fair, last season we kept Bauer (in the same contract situation as Taylor) so it's not as if we always flogged players with contracts running down under Roland.2 -
If Taylor goes without a like for like replacement, we are sunk. Even with him we are weaker in attack without Gallagher. Survival is going to be desperately close.
The comparison with Huddersfield indicates a lower level of ambition unless Southall pulls something out if the bag.0 -

Saw this on Facebook, it’s on Nimer’s latest Instagram post. Just what we need to convince Nimer to get some signings done...

This person knows nothing about what's going on behind the scenes ..... and has a little tantrum because his hopes and expectations haven't yet happened.
Social Media is a tool that some people don't know how to handle.

Problem with things like that is how much is true! Did we offer £2.5m for Maddison? Was Maddison the player who wanted an extra k. I read that and thought that perry James 87 is a bit of an idiot. Questioning southalls ability be chairman, based on what? Do we know what southall does and doesn’t do? Even if the post was well structured and accurate, the colourful language loses creditability.Scoham said:Saw this on Facebook, it’s on Nimer’s latest Instagram post. In that video Chris Wilder seems to be dealing with agents directly, are Bowyer or even Gallen that involved now? Bowyer said the list is with the chairman.Callumcafc said:
I would hope that Gallen is working closely with Bowyer to get deals over the line, but i'm not sure this is the case which is a concern.0 -

Even if we end up with no new bodies how does he know we didn't try?
No agents inflated demands are worth pandering to just because they see we have new owners with money. Starting to get really fed up with this, you can't play out your business in the open on these transfers. The Maddison deal should never have been common knowledge, this has just stoked up the concern.
Leave them to it, they will be working hard to close deals down.
If they don't come off it wont be for the sake of trying.
They are not in this to fail, how would that look to the other investors in football in the UAE.

Yeah and that is a fair point which is entirely at MS door for over promising and under delivering. Also with all the stuff he said about a marquee he's shot himself in the foot. He should have come in and set modest expectations for the rest of this season.killerandflash said:

What an absolute moron.
Same bloke will no doubt be wanting a selfie with Nimer on Saturday if we sign 3-4 players and beat Barnsley.6 -

MS's communication could have been better, but I think he was trying to manage expectations. He didn't suggest that the marquee signings would be in this window and seemed to be saying that reinforcement wouldn't be stellar to begin with.Cafc_lifer said:

In that Wilder video he thinks that things are done and then gets a call saying the agent wants 50% more. Also later he says there's a player at Sheffield waiting for his agent to tell him what to do.
Begs the question do agents work for the players or vice versa. Also can't the player make a decision?0
