Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Jake Forster-Caskey has joined Charlton Athletic on a permanent transfer, with the terms undisclosed.
The former England under-21 international returned to Albion from Rotherham United, after both clubs agreed to terminate his season-long loan agreement early to allow Forster-Caskey's move to the Valley, where he links up with Karl Robinson.
Forster-Caskey, who was limited to only six matches at Rotherham, had two successful loan spells at MK Dons under Robinson for a month in 2015, and again during the second half of last season.
Albion manager Chris Hughton commented, "There is no doubt Jake has a promising future in the game, but at this stage of his career he needs to be playing regular first-team football.
"With the form of our midfielders, we are not in a position to offer that, and opportunities at Rotherham United were also limited, so a move to Charlton represents a chance for Jake to play more regularly, under a manager he knows well.
"On behalf of everyone at the club, I would like to wish him all the very best for the future, and thank him for his efforts while here at the club."
Forster-Caskey was Albion's youngest-ever player, when Gus Poyet gave him his first-team debut aged 16 against Yeovil Town at Withdean in 2010; which came a week after he had to get permission from his head teacher to travel with the first team to MK Dons.
He went onto make 64 starts, and 18 substitute appearances for the club, scoring nine goals in total; and also had a six-month loan spell with Oxford United in the first half of the 2012/13 season.
Forster-Caskey has also been capped 15 times by England at under-21 level, having represented his country at every age group since appearing for the under-16s.

Struggled at Rotherham recently, good prospect but doesn't quite cut it in the Champ. Good League One signing with the right players around him (players who can drive with the ball)0

I don't know much about him, but as he's been signed for exactly the same amount of money as Lookman was sold for (ie "undisclosed"), he should be as good as Lookman, but with a bit more experience as he's older. In which case, good job.
Although net/net we are only back to the thin squad we had before Lookman was sold. So still 4? 5? more players needed.1 -

Must have been a snap decision by Hughton to let him go. When I saw him going into Tesco at Lewes a couple of weeks ago, he didn't mention it.2

well .. Wolfman/Ulvestad is only here on loan and Crofts is no spring chicken .. this looks like a 'development' move, still one for the future ..
Robinson had him at MK so knows his potential .. I can't see how immediately he is going to massively improve our midfield .. we will see

A left footed player with good energy, mobile, and likes to play in more advanced roles but one who can definitely play alongside Crofts.
Used to playing in teams who are good footballing, expansive and attacking. Has worked with Robinson before and represented England U21's.
What's not to like? - think he will do well, even better he can settle here now rather than thinking he'll only be at the club for a few months.

He's not an engine room midfielder, more of a 10 or a deep lying playmaker.
