  • I can't recall his name atm, but NJ has used the loan market for a first choice goalkeeper in the past.
  • Will he be the first Estonian to play for us?
Back to the holiday diversion...was thinking of a city visit to Tallinn.

#cafc working on a deal to sign Arsenal keeper Karl Hein on loan.

    Where @Swisdom leads others follow

I found a 46 year old keeper called Heinz Muller after the cryptic clue 😀 but pleased if it turns out to be the 22 year old Estonian keeper from Arsenal that signs on loan.
  • Hein coming in as number one or two ? He’s 22 whereas Mannion is 26. Both relatively inexperienced but I’d think Mannion won’t be happy bench warming to a loan four years his junior with probably less experience.
  • At 1.93m Hein passes the CL height test.

Arsenal fan I work with just said it was be an unreal signing for league 1 and has had a quality pre season.

I assume Hein was the 1st choice in the USA tour as Raya and Ramsdale didn't travel ?

You should. Beautiful city. Particularly enjoyed the ‘Kiek in de Kok’ museum.
  • Is all the Hein talk based on an off the cuff ‘57 varieties’ comment by Swisdom which had no relevance whatsoever about a keeper we may get .
If Swisdom explains he’s done a ‘messy fart’ whilst talking about an exciting potential signing , we’ll have 20 pages about Lionel joining us before the days up
    No
  • Feels like it's all going a bit west with our signings as of the last couple weeks but I remain open to seeing how they perform in a Charlton shirt. Just one more week and we'll have something else to moan about!

If it was a permanent, then he might be a bit aggrieved Shooters, but a loan would be slightly different and suggest that Mannion is, hopefully, the future.
  • Agreed he will be number one... But an excellent signing nevertheless.

Hein has 30 full caps for Estonia
Hein is coming to play, no way Arsenal would loan him to sit on the bench
To be fair, based purely on their record/level so far Hein looks like he would probably be better (at least at present) than Mannion and would probably merit the first choice position.
International caps and experience at a PL club (even at youth/reserve level) is probably higher than what Mannion has managed so far.

Mannion might well be a bit pissed off but thats where Jones needs to use his managerial skills.
  • If Hein joins and gets called up by Estonia does this automatically get matches off for internationals? I know it’s usually 3 call ups but I thought if your first team keeper got called up it was automatically off though could well be wrong on that.

    Number 1 without a doubt.
  • Hein signed a new contract with Arsenal in June when it was about to expire, so if they didn’t rate him at all they could have released him.

  • Wasn’t it made clear by Jones that Mannion would be No.2, if so, not sure he can complain.

I was surprised my little hint got swallowed up so quickly but he’s a very exciting player potentially

to have so many international caps means he must have something about him

    big bugger too
Jones does like players who can mix it up and fair enough. Even with a GK, as you want someone who can and will plough through anyone in the way to claim a cross or through ball.

Yes basically it was because he said he wanted to get an experienced keeper in as number one. Mannion is hopefully the future and will I’m sure get games in the Cup games. Whether Hein is that experienced keeper you can argue about but as said above with 30 international caps he isn’t coming in to sit on the bench.

I never understand the vitriol towards a player for doing exactly what’s best for him and his family’s future security. Why should Fraser cut and run ? If I was him I’d do exactly what he’s doing. Sit it out and see if the club offer to pay a good percentage of his salary, pay him off or a combination of either. He’s a professional footballer selling his talent to the highest bidder. He’s not a Charlton fan, he’s an employee. It would be great for both parties if it gets satisfactorily resolved but if not I don’t see either club or player at fault.
I haven't seen any vitriol but I think I can help explain it... Here's my list of footballing priorities:

    1) Charlton
    ...
    (Then everything else)
    ...
    4247) Scott Fraser

As you can see, he's quite low down. Yes, I can see the situation from his side, but should I care? Should I care that he make an extra 2-3k while doing nothing to earn it? Because I don't. I care a lot more that he goes and we bring in a quality player with his salary. Because that could be the difference between getting out of this league or staying in it.

Had he been a good player for us, I think I'd have a lot more sympathy.
I very much doubt that Scott Fraser or Scott Frasers wife and children care very much what your priorities are.
I’m sure they all prefer living in Greenwich to Dundee
Have you seen Dundee?  It's a beautiful city.  I know we all like to pretend the whole of Scotland is urban wasteland populated with angry alcoholics but just take a look.  I can well understand why someone would want to move from a 3 bed flat in touristy Greenwich to a very large house in Dundee with change left over.
I used to live very near Dundee.  Some of the surrounding area is lovely .  Dundee itself is not .
OK I bow to local knowledge - but I would ask how long it is since you lived there?  I think there has been a fair amount of regeneration...
A few years but I have a lot of friends that still live there .  The city centre is , by all accounts , not nice . As I say, Fife is lovely .
How many city centres around the UK would you actually class as 'nice' though? There can't be many.
Canterbury, Winchester, Bath, Truro, York, Chester, Edinburgh, Norwich,
Oxford, Cambridge, Salisbury, Durham, Chichester, Worcester……
I noticed he didn’t mention Dover.

    I understand why.
  • Apparently Hein is a penalty saving specialist.
Could be useful in the Bristol Street Motors trophy!
