NJ is doing a favor for his mate. Clearly not able to play at this level anymore. He was completely gassed after only playing ten minutes and was in Sunday league shape. If he is coming in as a player coach with an emphasis on coach that is fine but if he plays a single minute in a league match something has gone horribly wrong
From the story I’d say Hylton is there to be a coach to the strikers. I know they’ve wanted a specific forward coach for a while. NJ clearly appreciated Hylton so that seems like a good match there. At 35 he isn’t going to rip the league to shreds but if his nouse can be shared with the young guns.
i suggested a former player for the role last year but he wasn’t what they wanted - sounds like Hylton could be that man.
Billy Clarke?
No. Someone I thought would be a good mentor in the dark arts which I thought would help Miles.
My suggestion was open to it too as we have a mutual friend who asked him
currently scouting in his native France. Would have been good pr for the club too imo
Very interesting. I imagine that some players are much more instinctive than others and whilst they are great players, don’t really understand why or are unable to develop the same abilities in others. I’d guess that Clive Mendonca, for example, was highly instinctive whereas Andy Hunt might be a bit more analytical and insightful.

Does anybody else feel they have been fully fed on the transfer front this season and anything else is just icing now? That is kind of how I feel with the balance of the squad recruited, bar perhaps GK and another CM.
I watched Danny Hylton a lot at Aldershot when Charlton were playing away. in all honesty in 50 plus years of watching football I’ve never seen a bloke give so much / try so hard on a football pitch. He literally used to run himself into the ground every week.
He is a cross between Joe Jordan, Forrest Gump and Frank Spencer - never seen anybody else like him

I definitely think we’ll bring in an experienced CB with the know how to see out games.
Our inability to see out matches we were winning was a massive issue last year & the back 5 is still pretty young / inexperienced.
Could def do with a Sonny Bradley type Captain at the back.
Asked if he’ll be taking a closer look at the two players over the next few weeks, Jones said: “I’m having a look at Teddy Bishop. I know everything about Danny Hylton. I know what Danny Hylton can do. I don’t need to look at Danny Hylton. Danny Hylton is possibly my best ever signing in terms of everything. So, I’m not having a look at Danny Hylton. We’ve got a lot of young strikers at the football club and if they can have the application and certain things that Danny Hylton has then they’re going to have fantastic careers."
Sorry Nathan, could you repeat who you're talking about, we didn't quite catch his name.

I’d keep Edun. Think he could offer something in the middle
I think it likely we'll sell Small as he hasn't signed a long term contract. If so, we'll keep Edun as backup to Edwards.
I don’t think there’s a queue for Small. He was a free agent not too long ago and poor old relegation threatened Charlton were able to sign him. By January he might be worth something but now not that much.
You could be right but I don’t quite feel it’s the same. Hughes still had a decent amount to offer as a player on top of the other stuff, can’t see it’s the same as Hylton. Nonetheless, doubt it will have a detrimental effect on our season so not a big deal.

I think some were saying the same about Andy Hughes, this time of the season tbf...
I don’t think we can quantify the importance of having people like Hughes and Euell around when we won the league in 2012. Along with the management team, they would’ve been driving standards in training and the dressing room. We also know what a fantastic character Hughes is and how that would have helped to blend the squad together.
If Jones sees Hylton able to do a similar type of role, I think that’s only going to be a positive. He will never be expected to play much at all, it’s more what he offers to the squad and the younger players to learn from and know that if you apply yourself in this way under this manager, your career is only going to go in an upward trajectory.

Possibly, can’t really remember. But Hughes came from the Championship, Hylton is probably a non-league player now. My only (minor) issue is I can’t imagine we’ll go with 6 strikers so if we say loaned Kanu out and had Hylton as 1 of the 5 then I’d be a bit concerned if we got a couple of injuries.
Very much agree with what Sage and Scoham have said, and the initial reaction from some around Hylton's inclusion in the squad, just show how many fans just look at football in such black and white terms.
For far too long now we have had disjointed squads both on and off the pitch. Standards is such a massive part of Nathan Jones ethos as a manager, and as Sage mentioned having those senior players in the squad who can drive that are so important. It is clear if Hylton comes in, that will be what his main role at the club will be to do just this, and that importance I think can be somewhat unquantifiable.
Currently it feels like we are going into a new season with not just the right balance in terms of position, but also character. It's no guarantee at all - but hopefully this will all translate into improved performances on the pitch.
Agree with the above and would add he's useful for the EFL trophy. A senior head to play with youngsters while being able to rest the first team players. I don't know much about him but sounds like he's always worked his socks off and made a decent career out of it, a great lesson to the likes of Kanu, TC, Casey & Mbick

He is not aggressive and right at it.

Henry to also leave I'd imagine, even if it's a loan til January

They'll probably both come back with a contract of some sort...
But will they come back ? ... 😉
We also had Euell that season, 0 starts and 11 sub appearances in the league.
If Hylton joins as player/coach I’d hope we don’t need him to feature as much as either of them.
