I just wanted others to enjoy my actions, that sometimes didn’t work out but ego and vanity didn’t really play much of a part in it. He may just have wanted ‘everyone’ to simply enjoy it and be as excited as he did, through one of his great loves and passions in life, his music. He may be suffering from imposter syndrome, given he’s now in deep in an industry he’s never encountered before. An effect of this can be that you become a people pleaser, and try to achieve this to divert away from feeling you are out of your depth, incorporating his music may be his way of doing something he knows.

To me TS seems like he's wanting to please everyone. Nothing wrong with that at all, but just maybe he's trying a bit too hard in how he does it. Such as playing his song over RRR, because even though i don't like his song plenty do and he would of seen that on twitter or emails. The 20% discount thing aswell too although I don't know how much influence he had in that, is the same of coming up with an idea that may look like it will please everyone, but if done poorly like it was, there was no need.

There is a cultural difference here. Thomas has the all American attitude and wants to whoop and exchange high fives. We just want to shake hands. Maybe we'll be able to meet half way with a fist bump.

Could not agree more! The club needs a dynamic leader at its heart, and part of that dynamism would be lost if he is always second-guessing himself in doing something new. Not at all to say that TS cannot be criticized, but everything I have seen so far seems to come from a good place where he just wants to share his excitement.
Most charlton fans on the whole give new mangers, owners (bar Farnell and Elliot, which was justified) and players a chance. Even Roland was given time after selling yann and Stephens in first window and replacing with thurham and polish Pete. I know I didn't want him out till around November 2015, when people get annoyed is when like of Roland and Meire don't learn from mistakes and insult fans, that one being most important.
Is it an ear worm? I recall when my son was young and he watched childrens TV before I set off to work. I often had to check myself humming the Ballamory and Bits and Bobs tunes on my commute. Often too late avoid some puzzled looks.
For what it’s worth I am not at all persuaded by the notion that this (RRRgate) is about Mr Sandgaard’s ego. It is reasonable to assume that he thought that Red Red Robin was too insipid a song to be played as the teams emerge, when he thought an ‘Eye of the Tiger’ beginning would be better all round. His next thought was about trying to create something he believed would get the crowd going, but it had to be specific to Charlton, and as such he felt there was nothing out there and he would give it a go himself. I don’t really think his motivation was all about ‘look at me’, more about he thought it was a good idea, the kind of thinking that brought us Ronnie Schwartz. There is an acceptable compromise to be found here. Anyway, I very much enjoyed the guitar/score a goal moment…put Diana Ross to shame didn’t it?
The RRR is a Charlton institution which has largely been ignored in recent years. When it has been played, before last Saturday, and there have been crowds in, it has not been sung by the fans, with the Covered End usually belting out Valley Floyd Road to drown out RRR. Suddenly, because it was dropped, it has become sacred again. Play it at the next league home game and see how many of our support actually sing it. I sit in the NWQ and sometime I can barely hear myself singing it because the Covered end do not.
Yes, it has meaning for me since it was played at home when I was a small child.
Is it sacrosanct to me as part of my match day? Yes.
Is it really important to the majority of our support? Obviously not and recognise that I would have to give way to the majority of the support who don't sing it.
Do people vote in favour of keeping it? Yes, because it is tradition and most people hate change.
Will they sing it if it reinstated? Maybe once but then no, because it is an anachronism to many of our support with its dated words and emotions. It's words speak of a percieved idillyic past and reflect what it is.
Maybe Thomas should have tried a rearrangement of Billy Cotton version, but the screams would have been the same.
Addicks to Victory was a good attempt by TS to bring a different culture, partly American influenced, into the club and he will undoubtedly feel hurt by the criticism he has faced on social media. To the keyboard warriors who have dissed him out of turn on twitter and the like, I would recommend that they learn from history what bad owners are really like.
TS seems to me to be a good owner, spending wisely in this league, attending matches, joining in with much of the spirit of the club. If he was driven by ego, then there would have been many more changes and we would have been told to suck it up, much in the manner of RD and KM.
Simply, if you want RRR then sing it, but dont complain if you dont sing it and someone concludes that it is an unwanted anachronism. If the 3,000 fans that have voted for it had actually sung it then it would have been obvious to TS that it was of importance.
