  • Sometimes Deji looks good and sometimes he looks Sunday league. Can we change that? It is definitely worth trying IMO.

Imo he looks good at RB and average at CB

I think we could, but I think that we are now only interested in players that can get us out of league 1 ASAP. Before the takeover we had no choice, but the CAP and ambition make that not worthwhile. In fact it makes it undesirable if we can get better in because we need their wages in the squad. So wrong IMO, but it is what it is. For what it’s worth I really liked him and think he has good potential.
I would have liked to see him play at least part of a game to see where he is now, but for all the calls for him to play, I think I would go for Barker now. Never let us down and 100% commitment.
  • Against Forest last year, a Deji was great. Think he played RB then?

Remember it well, was a better performance at RB than Matthews managed (probably helped by the fact we were very good as a team). Matthews is a solid reliable performer though, Deji much more inconsistent.
  • So the ronnie schwartz deal definitely has to be done before the 1st of January let's hope we can get the deal done

If we were to play a back 3, I’d have him on the right of the 3. He has the ability to play right back, he’s not slow, and can bring the ball out of defence.

However, I think we found out all we need to know when Matthews came on against Swindon and we put Gunter as the right centre back instead of Oshilaja and keeping Gunter where he was.

Bowyer has since said he is happy to continue to play a central midfielder at centre back, and keep someone who plays in that position on the bench.

Does seem as though the writing is on the wall, and really, think it would be a shame. He’s not Championship standard, but is Deji leaving really going to allow us to bring in someone better for so little money?
Absolutely spot on for me. If we went up I'd definitely look to be signing better than Deji but I find it hard to believe he can't do a job for us at this moment in time.

If Bowyer feels he can't, then what the hell did we sign him for. We had a lack of money yes but we were in the league above. He trusted him to do a job at left-back not so long ago, can't see what's changed.

Agree totally. Athletic and has skill. I like him but there is no way he is knocking Gunter or Mathews out of the right back position.

  • Deji had a good game against Forest and looked a good prospect   , but I think he picked up a minor injury in that game and missed a few matches . He ended up becoming Mr Utility  , which didn't do him any favours  . Right wing back could be the position that best suits him .
  • I couldn't care less if Deji isn't a Championship player as we're not in the Championship! It does seem a waste to have a CB who can play right back, and then sign 2 right backs and not play him at centre back!
I didn't mean it in that respect. Just that if we are looking at promotion, he is not going to be at the level going forward that we will want. Right now, he's good enough for this level but the writing is pretty much on the wall if he can't get in a team that is leaking goals and playing a midfielder in his position.
  • What kind of investment do we need in January too go up?.

He did not have his best games at CH but was good playing right back. The problem is that we have two better right backs now. Gunter was bought in because we did not have a specialist right back, and Mathews was too good to turn down.

He also had a great game at Bristol City where we lost to a last minute goal (some things never change). He played right back & got in some great crosses. I expect he'll be off though as sadly we don't have many other players wd can offload.
  • I would be surprised if Aneke wasn’t attracting attention from a few Championship sides.

We don't need any investment, just need the guys we trust to use the budget as best they can.

His lack of fitness and susceptibility to injury probably work in our favour there.

And the fact he’s Not good enough above league 1. Maybe a controversial thing to say??, he hasn’t taken his chance when starting at any time. Then looks ok as a sub. In my opinion not good enough.sometimes he looks really skilful other times he looks really awkward and fouls clumsily too often. Happy to have chuks in league 1, in the championship he would be a sub probably used a lot less.
  • Whoever we sign I just hope the striker (100% nailed on its Schwartz) is signed at 1 minutes past 12 on Jan 1st otherwise we are going into the Hull match with just Washington & Bogle......who wont be troubling the scorers that's for sure.

Although how match fit would Schwarz be?

  • The way round the salary cap and obvious holes in the squad is.....

Pay Luton a fee for Shinnie and take over the last 6 months of his contract with them paying his wages.   You could possibly do the same with Smyth.

    Send Levitt back.

Sign a striker with what ever is left of budget.

Get a right sided center back in on loan.

Then get the best player you can on loan, provided he isn't a keeper or a right back he will almost certainly improve us.

Then there is always the 5% over run on the salary cap, which works out at about 5k a week for a six month contract.

There is plenty of wiggle room.

Could also cancel Watson's contract and free up around 4k.
Why would bowyer release the first name on his team sheet
  • A non attacking team does not really need Watson in it. Still a letdown from when Cawley announced that we were close to a PL level player.

Sandgaard could be prepared to invest 10m in transfer fees if he wanted, but it'd be pointless because of the salary cap.
