  • Smith in as a loan, confirmed
  • Guess Wiredu is potentially another Dempsey

If he's going to be out of contract in the summer then renewing will mean he's going to effect the Salary Cap - Clubs shouldn't be allowed to stockpile but clubs with decent academies at this level are being forced to make knee jerk reactions because of it.

Charlie Kirk and Crewe is probably another perfect example where the club who produced the player either cant afford to keep them (because they've outgrown the club) or because they're going to take up a spot in the Salary Cap because they've not quite reached the level as yet.

Am bored of saying it, am sure people are bored of reading it... But its the part of the cap that is fucking insane!!
100% this, plus while league 1 and 2 teams are having to do a great deal of work chopping and changing squads and losing talented youngsters, the championship and premier league just carry on with no cap or limit to how many youngsters they can keep or loan out.
Funny you should say that given Rich Cawley's comments about Nottm Forest signing Glenn Murray

Such a mess. Forest have likely seen what happened (or didn’t happen) to Wednesday and Derby, and think well it’s worth going well above FFP. The gamble is it will get you promoted anyway, and if it doesn’t we’ll go to court and say we’re innocent. Worse thing that’ll happen is 6 point deduction next season.

Seems like a good signing but one whose role in the team would be identical to Shinnie's and Morgan's?

Sounds sensible then given neither have been able to cement a regular place in the team either due to form, injury or suspension
  • it's very pleasing to see the comments re Schwartz and Washington and Smith's ability for a through ball, it shows real thought and planning

Even nicer when you consider all three of them are at the wrong end of the table

Hmm wonder if we'll see Albie go out on loan?
  • Smith trained with us yesterday, I see he wasn't in the Swindon side on Saturday

Kirk played and scored for Crewe on Saturday

He looks like a good player but do we need seven central midfielders?

In a 4-4-2 you've got five of them sitting it out.

Kirk has 5 league goals this season.
  • Great signing for us I think. I'm sure it will strengthen us
  • You can never have enough of good players and Smith definitely fits that role. Very pleased. More to come too I think.

When JFC is an automatic starter and Pratley or Watson are mandated by tiresome 'common sense' then really the others are fighting for a spot on the wing
  • Sky Sports apparently saying we’ve bid £600k for Kirk

  • Rather than offloading Maddison, can we get rid of Gilbey and Watson, pretty please?
  • So whose place in midfield is Smith currently taking?

I saw this season as make or break for Wiredu as we don't ever seem to hold any young players in the U23's up to the age of 22. Seems to be make it by 21 or gone.

Quite a few other kids due to expire this summer too.

    MFDempsey30/06/21
    MFVennings30/06/21
    MFWiredu30/06/21
    CBMingi30/06/21
    CBVega30/06/21
    FWClayden30/06/21
    FWAoucharia30/06/21
    GKHarness30/06/21
    GKOsaghe30/06/21
    MFQuitirna30/06/21
Would be surprised if any stay other than Vennings and Osaghe, maybe Aoucharia will get one last year given his injuries
One of those lads is on the Man City radar and will either sign an extension for us  or go for buttons.
  • I wonder if there will be a permanent move for Oztumer today
  • So whose place in midfield is Smith currently taking?

Reckon he's a Williams replacement (who can play 90 mins) with Kirk potentially replacing Maddison.
  • It does feel that Bowyer is haunted by the injuries we had in autumn 2019, and as a result has over stuffed our squad with midfielders since then

Last January on deadline day we signed the other Matt Smith and David Davis on deadline day. Both made little impact
  • So whose place in midfield is Smith currently taking?
If he is a midfielder, I should imagine he will be taking the place of one of the centre backs.
  • Comparison:

    Matt Smith 5ft 9" (176 cm)
    P24, G2, A3, Y4,YR0, R0

    Albie Morgan 5ft 10.8" (180cm)
    P15, G1, A2, Y3, YR1, R0

    Andrew Shinnie  5ft 11" (181cm)
    P13, G2, A2, Y0, YR0, R0

Happy with the signing but surprised he's left a team he has played every game to one he is one of many midfielders.

On a plus, it can only show that we are aware Pratley and Watson are not the way forward. We should be happy with the signing just for that factor!

We might see Gilbey out on loan.
