So far, so good. I think we've been helped somewhat by something of a soft start to the season but you can only beat what's in front of you and i would have certainly taken 12 points out of the first 15. A bit hairy today at times today, but 4 goals away from home when your best striker isn't available is not to be sneezed at. I think we will have more of an idea where we are after the Southend and particularly the Wigan game followed by the short trip to Gillingham but hopefully we can keep the run going.
Just back from the match. There are already some excellent reports in this thread on how the game went so I will just add a few observations. Firstly, I thought that there were three crucial factors in Oldham's revival after we had played them off the park for twenty minutes. The early substitution, bringing on Fane, upped their work rate and commitment, the penalty gave them hope when their prospects of getting anything other than a sound thrashing from the game had seemed non-existent and their two new forwards, Doyle and Davies, suddenly clicked in their debut match. Davies, especially, was a handful - in the mould of our own Josh Magennis. He nearly had a fight with his own team mate over who was going to take the penalty, which in the end he dispatched pretty well.
Secondly, I like the way Karl came over to our end with the team at the end of the match and really seemed to enjoy the moment, as well as winding up the Oldham fans. The whole team in fact seem united in a way we haven't seen for years. I did think, however, that Dodoo looked a bit embarrassed after scoring, when he was hugged by team mates he had barely been introduced to!
Thirdly, the standard of officials in League 1 is utterly awful. Every week we see incidents. Today, apart from the card happy referee and the dodgy penalty, there was a moment when the linesman couldn't see the ball go out of play when it was literally right in front of him.
This was my second away match of the season after the unfortunate defeat at Plymouth, where we folded as we did so often last season. We kind of did it again today but if we can maintain over a whole match the energy and skill we showed in that opening twenty minutes, we will be a match for any team in this league.
Well. It is not often i win money on the back of a Charlton result. What pocessed me to put a quid on 6+ goals at 20/1, i know not. The quid on Holmes scoring was more of a safe bet and what a goal!
The football accies went down the shitter of course but you can't have everything.
Home by 9.45 after an away day to Oldham ?? Surely not !
Don't tell Syd, but I'm getting fond of letting the train take the strain.....
I shall miss the game next Saturday due to a prior girly weekend booking (Oops! Shouldn't mention that word !) but maybe it's just as well . Not sure I can cope with another 90 minutes like that for some considerable time. Who'd believe I had jet black hair at 3pm today !
What the faithful witnessed this afternoon was the true definition of " value for money". For a meagre £10, the wrinklies in attendance were treated to a performance that fluctuated between The Robby Horror Show and Happy Feet- fortunately the latter was more successful overall. Truly, this was one to savour.
I continue to be impressed by this group of lads as a whole with their team spirit paramount & to single out individuals for praise may seem harsh. Ricky Holmes rarely disappoints & although his passing was somewhat wayward at times, his strike was an early contender for goal of the season. However, Billy C & Kashi stood out for me today - the former for his work rate together with his skill on the ball, the latter for his ability to spray the ball imperiously & accurately both left & right. KR & his assistant coaches must be congratulated on the flowing, attacking football they are coaxing from the players. Long may it last.
But plaudits must be reserved for our 2nd Addick in a week to mark his debut with a goal. Young George Lapslie lit up the night on Tuesday ; today it was the turn of Joe Dodoo who duly saluted the away fans as we celebrated. Young Will is due to accompany his Grandad next Saturday & I just KNOW he'll be dying to join in the latest chant.....
"Feckin Big Dodoo, we've got a feckin big Dodoo"....
Onwards & upwards ...albeit with a big helping of drama !
Oh, and CL has just been mentioned twice on the C5's Goal Rush !!!! What a great end to the day !
Oldham were there for the taking and at 0-2 we were coasting then we took the foot off and let them in with a silly pen , we clear one off the line just before half time and it seriously was next goal wins the game imo
Oldham get the second and it's all due to us stepping off the gas
Then the turning point ref sends off for no reason imo
And we get back the two goal lead
We then step off again and let Oldham back in
We need to be more ruthless in all honesty there was no route back after that first twenty and to allow them in was scandalous
Karl is a classless fucka and as leader of the ship needs to show more control and class to tell the Oldham fans to fuck off when they were booing the ref and the reaction that got their player sent off is not on I expect more from our manager there was loads moaning on here when rosler done it and rightly so
The ref was appalling never have I seen a ref so incompetent and totally lost the plot I believe there was 10 or 11 bookings
Great three points but don't get too carried away we switched off far too easily
Just following the game through others comments, but it will be interesting to see how other teams play us. Once Oldham switched to very physical it seemed like we wilted.
However, very physical comes with a downside as Oldham found out. But is there approach the template for playing us, and can we adjust for it.
Great result . Went to the 20-20 finals at Edgbaston with my eldest son, drunk ten pints got absolutely plastered , luckily no wife about . Just woke up fully clothed on hotel bed and I'm despatching the room service down the pan .
Never should've been that difficult after cruising at 2-0 but this is Charlton all over. A win is a win so well done to all.
Goals coming from all over the team again which is promising, and our front 4 seems to be very strong, even better when we have Magennis, Reeves and Marshall to come. When was the last time we scored 4 goals twice in such a short space of time? Early days but we look strong in attack.
Looking forward to seeing Holmes' stunner. Winning momentum continues and that's very important.
Referee seems to have his own idea on the laws of football as that's a total of 22 yellow cards in the last two games he has officiated. Every 2.4 fouls today, there was a card, seems like he needs some more education on the laws and how to manage and officiate the game effectively, and this is coming from a qualified referee.
Most importantly, we won and a massive well done to the traveling fans and the people who contributed to the updates on the match thread today.
Happy days, great stuff!
@Sage Have you looked at the fouls for which he gave cards and determined that any of the cards were unwarranted?

Awful and totally predictable chant!! Not like a fella to exaggerate of course!!

Thank you Charlton.
PS I'm using this profile pic of Jimmy Seed after a win, the gloomy looking one after a defeat.
Only to be misquoted. I've never said we'd struggle to get goals this season! Just that we could have done with another striker.
