Well still reeling from the match. Writing this in the train.
First 25 mins was best I've seen Charlton play, no question. Two great goals, fluid play, total possession, with Oldham shell shocked. The travelling Addicks couldn't believe what they were seeing. Predictions of 5 or 6.
Then Oldham took someone off, brought on a chopper Harris, and got physical. Very physical. They had the better of the rest of the first half. Kicked the crap out of us.
At 2-2 Fane, who ran the show at the Valley last year paid the price for their new approach.
And we started to pass the ball around again.
All our goals were special. Holmes' was a Ricky classic, Fosu's a good finish after a nice build up, Billy Clarke opened up his body and steered it into the corner, nicely set up by Fosu. Joe Dodoo, who showed nice touches and decent physicality, took his calmly. No blasting the ball at the keeper. For someone who hasn't played much he looked very promising.
Not sure why KAG went off. He was struggling a bit maybe?
JJ and Solly both had good games, but Oldham got far too many crosses in for my liking.
Pearce and Bauer collided to allow Oldham their third. A rare mix up.
We missed Dasilva's passing and crossing. Amos pulled off a great save at the end of the first half, backed up by Billy Clarke who just skimmed the ball over the crossbar when an Oldham leveller looked certain a minute later.
It was disappointing to let them back into the match after leading 4-2.
The ref was a lunatic.
Karl Robinson said hello to me after the game. I nearly said I was Jimmy Seed's grandson but the face of @Henry Irving popped up in my mind, so I kept schtum.
Still, a great three points, and at times we looked very classy indeed.

Going well so far, but remember all five of our league matches have been against teams in the lower half of the table. And Southend will be another one. We could not have had an easier start.
If we can do the business against Wigan on 12th Sept I shall really start getting optimistic.
Looking at the Sky highlights, that could be one of the league one goals of the season, from Holmes - not just for the strike, but the whole move. Dodoo took his goal with great composure, too. More, please.

Laugh at those getting ahead of themselves about promotion! If we keep easily leaking goals from the likes of the Oldham Athletic's - it will become same old story come Christmas.
I laugh at those that suck the joy out of football. If you don't liked it go watch netball it's live on Sky.
In fairness im pretty sure the comment was click bait designed to get a few negative comments that would be jumped on elsewhere

To be fair they're partly in the bottom half because they got zero points against us.
Well teams that go up can have a dispointing performance and win - so that is a good thing. Robinson will want to understand why a goal out of the blue stopped our dominance. I'msure we will be better for that and if you can learn lessons and not lose points it has to be a positive.
Irrespective of positions in the league, Southend wil be up there and Wigan are on paper an automatic promotion side so we will get an idea of where we are. From what I have seen, I think we should fare well against the better teams but it would be reassuring to be proven correct. I wouldn't want to be facing them without Da Silva and Big Josh though, and playing Oldham today was another bonus!

My first visit to Boundary Park since the infamous 9v10 players match which we won 1-0 courtesy of a Yann header 5 1/2 years ago. The Away end that day is now the home end and we were seated in the old home end with a brand new Stand to our left but only 20 rows deep.. Nice executive boxes and conference facilities though so I'm told.
The sun shone through fluffy white clouds on a warm late summers day and the away contingent were expectant of another 3 points on the road from the Addicks resplendant in all red. We started brightly pinging the ball around with Kashi conducting the troops. Oldham had two debutants and seemed a bit mesmerised at our tidy crisp possession football. After failing to convert a reasonable chance by AHG which his pace created, Ricky took the bull by the horns on 17 mins angling in from the inside left channel and unleashed a screamer from 30 yards into the left hand postage stamp; 1-0 to the Londoners. That second goal is so important of course and we didn't have to wait long 3 mins in fact as Fosu cut in from the left of the pen area to bury a fierce shot across the keeper; 2-0 to the Londoners. This was going to be a walk in the (Boundary) park me thinks but no this is Charlton you fool RC! After what must have been a message from their management to stop the Londoners playing tippy tappy and get stuck in the oppo duly obliged and the first to be assaulted was Solly and JFC received a kicking shortly afterwards.
Having been bullied out of our stride Oldham got a foothold back into the game courtesy of the ref who had adjudged an infringement by the BFG and pointed to the spot. Davis after refusing to let a colleague have the ball duly despatched the pen to Amos' right. Now I'm checking the watch for HT as the Latics could sniff blood and somehow we managed to get a point blank shot over the bar, not sure if Clarke headed or Amos saved it. So to the sanctuary of the dressing room to regroup and consolidate the lead second half.
Consolidate? RC you old fool, you should have known better in this your sixth decade of support. The second period started quietly enough until Pearce and Bauer decided to take one another out whilst trying to deal with an up and under. Their CF couldn't believe his luck steadied himself and scored the most undeserved equaliser. This was now going to be a test of our character and the oppo finally paid the ultimate price for their aggression as Solly was cleaned out by the same guy who had done JFC earlier and was rightly sent packing. This gave us the lift we needed but by now the ref had shown more yellows than Donovan (Google him if your under 40) sang about in the 60's.
Some crisp passing saw Fosu on the left edge of the box with time to look up and fleet of foot he slid the ball back to Clarke who sublimely side footed into the corner of the net, coolness personified; 3-2 to the Londoners. Oldham wouldn't lie down and kept fighting, Holmes being the next recipient of a sything tackle, yet another yellow. I thought I had read in the pre match piece by FA that this ref dished out 12 cards last week and he was in no mood to disappoint today as some of ours followed into his book for some afters and verbals.
Then came number 4 from an old fashioned lump upfield kindly helped on by a blue shirt for new boy Dodoo who is reknowned for scoring on debut to burst onto and calmly slot into the onion bag; 4-2 to the Londoners
Surely we were home and dry now? You were doing it again RC, counting those chickens, as the oppo scored a third against a tired, bashed up, drained, Charlton side in the 21*C heat. Five minutes injury was displayed and Oldham kept going but with one man down they were more knackered than we were and we managed to get over the line.
Game over 4-3 to the Londoners. Onwards and Upwards COYRs.
I live up in Manchester, and took my girlfriend for her first ever live football match - she liked Ben Amos' bum and therefore enjoyed the first half immensely.
First 30 minutes this game was gonna be 5-0 to the Mighty Reds...the penalty utterly sapped us and invigorated them. The bum was far squeakier than necessary from there on out.
It was nice after Dodoo took us 2 goals clear again - he took it we'll and gave a nice acknowledgement to the fans. But the nerves came straight back with their third, and the squeak returned.
A thrilling match for the girlfriend's first - might get her along for more in the future!

Careful. If we get promoted you may have to marry her!
I admit it, I got it wrong. I said a 2-0 loss & wasn't expecting what I heard on Sky this afternoon. Now can't wait to see the next 4 games (3 home + away at The Gills) - only seen us away at Exeter & Plymouth so hoping to see some fireworks. Golfie Jnr said back in July that he had a good feeling about this season - I keep saying its early days & have to wait until xmas before really being able to judge, but much prefer to watch what is being served up now to some of the dross we had to watch last season.

Robinson was baffled by the decision to award the spot-kick.
“I clearly saw he gave it for the push but he’s just told me it was handball,” bemoaned the former Milton Keynes manager.
“When you come to one of John Sheridan’s teams you know it’s always going to be difficult. The fans make it very hostile and I think there was one or two very unique decisions given by the officials.”

My emphasis, source: SLP. He's getting better at the lingo every day.
Nothing to add other than a thoroughly enjoyable roller coaster of an afternoon. Ref did a good job of making Kettle look a class act mind you.
Left Norwich at 8 to make sure I got there without any hold ups etc. Ended up getting to Oldham at 12:45 and that was after a stop at Ferrybridge services! By f*** Oldham is so not the place to try and kill time!

A win is a win. Some great goals and some awful defending. Suspect it was one of those wins a coach would come away unhappy about bit a fan delighted
Encouraging that we capitalised on our good start and held onto the 3 points.
The result of a match like this can define the pattern of a season.
Still early days of course but those two points gained may yet be crucial.

In town for a couple of nights, looking for someone to show me around
Needless to say unmatched within 10 mins
