our team is a work in progress, whilst it was a brilliant afternoon there is still a lot to be done before the team is ready to take on the better teams during our run in. We had 9 shots at goal and scored 4 goals, that is the most effective that our attack has been for many a game, however our passing wasn't great, we kept giving it away which wasn't too bad as Rotherham didn't have the ability to take advantage, but the likes of Burnley will. But the passing wasn't all bad there were times when a measured pass from midfield to Igor was just a inch out of true and was taken by a defender. With Bauer and or Diarra back, Lookman fit, with Riga as manager and with our support I do think we'll get better and survive the drop.
We won!!!! It shows how far things have gone that a result that would have had me leaping around the house shouting, provoked a happiness and not much more. That was a fantastic result for us. They had a chance to put a foot on our necks and instead, we wrestled free and we can see the survival line again. We apparently played well. Riga has found a Bergdich none of us knew existed. Vetokele appears to be rcovering form a year of injury mismanagement. The defence....... maybe needs strengthening. But we played well yesterday, and won 4-1 away.
The core problems are unchanged. There is no one in the upper echelons who understand football, so Riga, who appears to have taken this job by the scruff of the neck, will be battling against ignorance and apathy at best, when he needs to make decisions. However, at least he seems to be able to make decisions. Peeters and Luzón could'nt or would'nt, and Fraeye will go down in football history as one of the most surreal football moments since William Webb Ellis picked the ball up and ran with it. Katrien should still be hounded out. The last two years (and I'm certainly not claiming any sort of corner has been turned yet) are a marvel of lies and incompetence, and her ongoing presence shows how far we are from recovery. Plus RD is the same buffoon this morning as he was yesterday. But this morning I'm going to dream a small dream of survival. It's not much. But it's a step forward. For me the protests must go on. But at least we finally have a manager who seems to me able to manage and react to changing circumstances and react logically. Was it too much to ask for three months ago?
What a difference a manager makes. We weren’t perfect, but we were organised, committed and played with some belief.
A couple of little things struck me.
For the first time in the five years since I have been watching matches again we made some sensible use of our throw-ins. Instead of virtually always throwing it down the line to our biggest player and invariably losing possession, players were moving around and making themselves available to receive the ball to feet.
Henderson was clearly looking to do something similar with his distribution, ie find a free player to retain possession and not always launch it towards our biggest player. Our second goal originated in this way when he threw the ball to Cousins.
This is basic stuff and doesn’t make Riga a tactical genius, but he’s having a positive impact. We have a chance.
Aaah. Had such a brilliant dream last night. We won away, scoring 4 goals, our strikers played well and were deadly with their chances, we had away support, everyone was singing loudly FOR the manager.

Shame if people are indifferent. Today was brilliant. Support the team not the regime.
Unfortunately the success of the team will justify the regime.
But we'll be happy then and I'm OK with that. Bring on the wins I say.
and this is why the protests are on shaky ground, because all it will take is a few wins under the network manager & all is forgiven.....
Have to agree totally with this. A few more wins and safety under the old belt and the protests / CARD campaign will naturally lose momentum and any impact it's starting to have. Then of course, 'they' will be in the position to turn round and stick two fingers up at us.
Of course I want Charlton to win and stay up, but I also desperately want rid of these Buffoons, it's a real catch 22! ! I fear that if the wish/desire for Charlton winning sees us stay up we have even less chance of getting rid of these imbeciles!!
I am sure there is some truth in what you are saying, but you can't control for what other people will do. All you can do is remain steadfast yourself and maintain your own opposition come what may. Will you do that?
Posting without reading, was at the game yesterday.
First of all there was a huge improvement in many aspects on the pitch.
There's still a lot more work to be done but that was a huge building block and you would never have known only two weeks ago we were destroyed at Hull.
To start with it's clear to see the Riga effect is already taking place. Riga got far more out of the players than Fraeye ever did or Luzon since August and that for me has been one of the biggest gripes this season. It wasn't perfect but already we have come a long way under Riga.
Huge improvement on the pitch from JBG, Cousins, Makienok, Vetokele and in particular from Bergdich who looks like he could make a similar impact to that of Bulot last season if he can also get a few goals to his name.
There was also a real fighting spirit amongst the players, you could see at 2-1 they were really scrapping for there lives and plenty of crunching tackles being won almost a refusal to not throw the lead away again.
The penalty was the right decision i'd have been disappointed if it was someone in a Charlton shirt and it not given. I can't remember who said it but on the Texiera thread last week someone said he got away with a few pushes, tugs etc that he might get away with abroad but not here. Nail on the head if I can find who posted that, but that aside we looked strong again at centre back he's made an improvement to the defence without doubt.
Makienok really bullied the defence, winning just about every header and I loved the way he just attacked the ball for the first goal rather than hold it up or look to play a pass. I just wish the idiots who booed his name when read out before the game will now finally shut up after that performance yesterday.
Igor looked like the same Igor from the 1st half of last season drawing fouls from the defence with his sharpness.
We need to follow this up with another similar performance next week v Bristol City but we've now got a real fighting chance of staying up. I just hope we can now build on this and not end up paying the price for having had Fraeye in charge for so long.
Just off the train , straight into my pj's & now CL ... you know how important it is for me to share my thoughts before I "switch off ".
My first away day by rail since the promotion game at Carlisle & all went to plan..Wadhurst, Charing Cross, St Pancras, Sheffield & on to Rotherham. Boy, did that wind test my hairspray today !!
Lunch with good friends in The Rhino with a free glass of wine ( wayhey !) & a brisk walk to the stadium to join 700 more of the faithful. As all concerned were saying, everything had gone to plan thus far - surely nothing could go wrong ?
And indeed it did prove to be one very special day which even our favourite man in the middle failed to spoil. Lots of familiar faces- some regulars and some not-but all, by 5pm with huge smiles on their faces. This is what supporting our Club is all about, lest we forget at times...
The game ? Well, I'm sure others have already pointed out that there wasn't one player in Jose's team that didn't earn his money this afternoon. Every one of our lads played their part. For the 2nd week running, Bergdich was a revelation, Guddy was almost back to his best of last season, JJ ran his socks off as usual but made some very important tackles too, Henders pulled off some great saves to keep us in front & the back four looked more stable than of late. But, whilst it's unfair to pick out individuals for praise ( it was SO a team effort today) our strikers did what it says on the tin - all THREE of them ! It's been a long time since we could make claim to that ! Indeed, it was a great performance from all our players ...although our no 22 must wonder whether he's ever going to make it further than the touchline. For the 2nd game running he's been ready, willing & able to step onto the pitch but the final whistle has blown before he's managed it !
Why, why and thrice times why didn't RD see fit to keep Jose in SE7 2 seasons ago ? Of course, hindsight is a wonderful thing but it was as plain as the nose on a certain puppet's face that he had something special ....and it was something our Club badly needed. All that wasted time, all those lost points, all that lost confidence & all those lost fans.....and even now, is there any guarantee that our owner has learned any lessons? That this won't happen season after season whilst he continues his bizarre & ruinous experiment ? If there is one thing that tempers the sheer joy of a day like today, it's the knowledge that we are still on a merry go round , but alas, one that all too frequently breaks down...
So, a weary Fanny has put a special day to bed & looks forward to next weekend's visit of the other Robins. The confidence that today's result has surely instilled in both players and fans should make it one to savour. And we need to be that 12th man that our CEO will invariably state made the difference today. But, please don't forget that apart from what's happening on the pitch & on the training ground, nothing has changed.
And, unless RD swallows his pride or maybe takes a walk along that road in Damascus, we could be here again this time next season...with no young Lookman among others likely to be sold to "balance the books".
Support the team under JR, NOT the regime !
You really ought to write a book of your CAFC experiences Fanny.
Noticed on the replay that it was Mak winning a header and flicking on to Bergdich for the 1st goal, he was not winning them in past games. I only hope these are the sort of comments we can read about next weekend
It's a bit off the thread but how about the Protest fund buying some Roland Out Car Stickers. This would spread the word and make the protest more visible.
@Fanny Fanackapan . My best mate from school texted me to say he was talking to you yesterday. Was sitting behind you guys. Laurence is his name (I call him Lol). He runs the coaches up from Tun Wells and, between us, we have well over 100 years supporting Charlton. Maybe you remember?
After we got back from Rotherham we celebrated in the Tudor Barn in Eltham and I'm still feeling horrendous, but the hangover is blunted slightly by thinking back to the brilliant performance from yesterday.

Skinned a couple of players by the dugout and played two or three defence splitting passes, including for the 2nd goal.
And he's still only 21.

I can't believe how many goals Fulham have scored !!!
Made himself quickly available for Henderson to pass to and it was a lovely ball for Johann to latch on to
Bloody heck... You wouldn't believe on the season, only Clayton Donaldson has more assists with 10
Seems the reporter wasn't impressed with CAFC time wasting antics!
