Another question... Why is Pope being picked out for the first two goals, the blame he gets now is a joke.
(1) the Wall was set and it didnt jump!!
(2) Pope did well to punch through nearly every player on the pitch, the ball fell into an empty penalty area, every other Charlton player just stood and looked at the ball whilst the Preston player booted it into the net.
Nothing Pope could have done about any of those goals and once again kept the score down!!
Don't think it was a question of players not trying, they did try. They tried to pass, they tried to control the ball, they tried to shoot, they tried to cross, they tried to tackle and they tried to move off the ball.....They were just crap at it.
i cannot really blame the players as half of them did not seem to know what they were supposed to do.The responsibility has to be with Luzon who picked a very weak side which needed jackson and makienok to start. Why oh why did he start with bergdich and holmes dennis who in many ways did not know what they were supposed to do but more importantly kept losing the ball. in fact that is what everyone did all night; they kept losing the ball. The second half sub of mackilely was again wrong as he made no impact; the thing is these are all HIS players and that is the main problem with the team; for such a small squad there are too many who are not strong/confident/aggressive/skilful enough if we have many injuries and there is not a lot that he can do about it. It's such a shame.
Abject. Clueless owner and CEO. Felt for Luzon but that team had no chance before the game kicked off. The telling thing was this bench - if they were fit enough to play why were they on the bench, if they were not, why were they on the bench. Felt sorry for Cousins as Ba went absent and he couldn't do it all alone. Felt sorry for Watt as he was trying. Diarra was average. The rest so well below that you have to look back to the Pardew days for a comparison. If we have no fit players it mitigates things for Luzon, but that was a sacking performance. For me it is the owner who should walk and he should take his clueless CEO with him. To try to fix things we need to go English - maybe see how a Euell, JJ Charlton combo goes, at least some time will be bought to find a longer term solution if it doesn't work out!!! Of course there is no way a senile old git and his arse l****ng tart who thinks she knows more than people with decades of experience of the game and patronises with her superior comments will do what is best for the club! They are out of their depth. Duchatelet, your experiment officially failed today - remedy with a plan B or sell up and pi** off!
There are thousands of combined years watching this club between us lifer's and it's a tough time right now but it will get better, just unfortunately it will get worse before then.
the thing that has struck me since the end of August is how many 'ordinary' teams have beaten us, home or away, week in / out and we're talking teams totally out of form, down the wrong end like us. There will probably never be a better time to play us than now.
One thing we all agree on. We love our club. Will never trade it in for another and will all keep coming back for more, so any talk of abandoning ship is just nonesense and an emotional response to a very, very, emotive issue.
Change is needed now and it needs to be top down. How far up the pyramid the changes are, time will tell. We've dropped like a stone for 7-8 weeks and if I were an investor in a company this bad, the usual realisation is to sell and write of the bad debt.
Bizarre team selection - Luzon appears to have lost the plot. Hard to single out the worst display - didn't even look like we had 11 players on the pitch. Bergdich, Ba, McAleny and Sarr were all useless. THD and KAG are out of their depth, Cousins was invisible and we couldnt string two passes together. No team spirit - we are becoming a laughing stock. Relegation looks assured - worst display I can remember since the Wycombe game. The crowd are turning on the players which is a really depressing state of affairs.

Agreed and the sarcastic cheers when he catches the ball are equally as pathetic. That said, we need SH back on Saturday. Now is not the time to be playing inexperienced and young members of the squad.
Worst performance I've seen at the Valley. Lost hope when I read the line up on BBC app whilst travelling to the game. Luzon got it badly wrong tonight with his selection but more worrying is the fact the players obviously aren't playing for him or the shirt.
The truly worrying thing is that the diehards are now turning, those who have been there from the 60s, 70s & 80s. Bringing it back to this forum, users who have been on here from Day 1, people I know & respect are now saying it's the worse they've seen - if the club lose these people then these are truly dark days
From memory we had one shot and two corners, and lost by three goals, which could've been even more. Good luck to anybody who can find any kind of positive from tonight. I would like to think at least we will now know what not to do, but I suspect this will repeat ad infinitum as long as Roland and Katrien are running the show. We were so poor that I found myself hoping we get Manchester City away in the third round of the cup, because if we draw someone like North Ferriby United or Barwell at home we are fecked. Preston won the game before the second minute had passed, crap play by Ba led to the free kick, second goal was a good one after we couldn't clear a corner, third one another good one as we backed off. Preston were way way better than us in every single department for every single minute, and the one and only time we looked like we cared, or showed any urgency, was when Morgan Fox had to climb into the East Stand to retrieve the ball. I have seen plenty of bad through the years, but this was equal to the worst I have ever seen. My vibe is think Northwich Victoria, or Sheffield United, or Wycombe, combine those feelings and double it and you get close to just how abject and supine and clueless and embarrassing Charlton Athletic have become. Building a better tomorrow together my arse.
Just in. Wonder why I bothered from Herne Bay! Just awful - worst this year - we are going backwards. Its one thing to say we've got lots of injuries (true) but the starting line-up. Ba over Jackson? Bergditch on the right wing? Holmes-Dennis thrown for his first start (he did OK) - but nervous. Why not McAleny? Was Moussa that crocked! No balance in the side, very little fight. Was an embarrassment.
By the end of last Saturday at Reading I was just apathetic to Luzon, wanting to give him a chance prior to that. Now I think he needs to go. I dont have answers, neither does he, neither do KM/RD and neither do the players.
Absolutely pathetic show. No skill, no fight, no idea. This was Preston who hadn't won since August. They completely outplayed us. How many shots did we have? Is this rock bottom or are we going to drop even further.
I think Luzon was saying he couldn't play any other starting team due to injuries. To be fair - we know that is almost certainly true, it is the owner who is to blame. You can't even blame KM - her job is to lick his backside for him - which she does pretty well. The buck stops with him, but it is his club, he can fiddle as it burns if he likes.
Trying to sum up how shit we were without repeating what has already been said. We are an embarrassment. Can't be bothered to dig out anyone as i am struggling to think of a positive to counter the negative. We are f$#*ked.
I feel sorry for Big Mac, Solly, Watt and Cuz, they did try but were in a hopeless position by the sound of it....Gl should have started the likes of JJ, Big Mac, Moussa and then substituted them after 60 minutes, we might have been in the lead by then rather than chasing the game...basic mistake, play your strongest side from the off, get ahead and then make defensive substitutes as legs run out!!! Simple really

Pitch is lovely.

Over to you Roland???

I ask him if he's worried about his future at the end.
feel a bit for Luzon.
feel for the young players who are getting dragged into this.
even felt for Ba when he was booed off even though he had a shocker.
made Preston look like a top 3 side.
1 shot on target at home.
Sheffield Utdesque (the 2-5).
relegation written all over us.
bored with the experiment.
Sadly, can only see Luzon being sacked as the 'solution'. This will not solve any of our problems.
