Yes our club is struggling and probably being run by someone who thinks it's a toy but it's not Miss Meires fault she's an employee of Rolands she is told what to do and what to say to a point! Maybe a train journey home from a terrible result and performance by Charlton is not the place to confront the poor lady! If it was Roland maybe but can you imagine how she felt! Nervous, scared, vulnerabie! Yes the guy was upset angry!! We all are but just say hi what did you think of the game etc! That was to much!!

When the witch-hunt is over and she resigns, it is encouraging to know that there are so many people (on here alone) that will do such a better job in the circumstances.

Witch-hunt aside, it looks like our experts here see thay she is about to be struck-off for lying and trying to dupe The British Government over immigration issues.

    Get your CVs warmed up.
  • Well said Mick. I think we should try to find out what form Curbs' application took. I suspect it was no more than the sky interview. If so it shoots out of the water that there was any meaningful recruitment going on. I think the LMA needs to get involved in this farce.

I wonder how Roland feels about the alleged 'abuse' his CEO experienced yesterday. Could there be some form of backlash or repercussion? The next few days may be interesting.

That would suggest he has empathy or a sense of right and wrong.

Don't think he has proved he has either.

Not been following this thread until the news of the incident on the train broke and the release of the video. I have just browsed through the thread to see if I could see for myself evidence of the blatant lying she has been accused of and maybe understand why some on here, and the drunk on the train, are so apoplectic about it.

My understanding, and I may be wrong here, is that Charlton did not formally advertise the role. As is normal in these circumstances the club were contacted by the agents of managers looking for a new role. Some managers indicated interest via the media. In many cases I would suspect the agents were able to contact her directly by phone or e.mail. Clearly she had a list of 20 unsolicited indications of interest in the job all received within a day or two of the sacking. Are people on here saying that Charlton were obliged to interview every unsolicited application for the job?

Meanwhile, back in Belgium, RD, who probably had no intention of advertising the job, was considering his options and taking advice from his football advisers (and I sincerely don't think that Katrien considers herself one of the people that RD would consult on matters relating to the purely football side of the business). He came to the decision to go with the new guy and Katrien was informed.

This is a lot of guess work on my part but I just cannot, from what I have read on this thread, see any justification for the lying accusations that have been levelled at her.

.......So do you believe that any meaningful interviews with one or more of the '20 applications' in addition to Luzon could have taken place in that time-frame - i.e. was there really any kind of 'selection' process or was Luzon (a man already on Duchatelet's payroll) the pre-planned replacement with no serious consideration of any alternatives?...........

I don't believe that any of the 20 unsolicited applications (received within 12 hours as you say) were considered let alone interviewed by RD. And why should they be. I believe RD, taking advice from his footballing advisors, may have considered and interviewed (hence Katrien saying other people were interviewed) other candidates in his network.

Km has said some were hasn't she?
  • I know it is shite but what do people seriously want to happen?

KM resigns for many good reasons none less than being shouted at on a train
GL fails to get the job due to home office regs
The new CEO thinks the train home is not an option - in metaphor terms when it comes to comms
RD to fuck it all off and sell to the quickest bidder
    New owner comes in.......
    Peninsula?

  • Just seen the interview with Luzon. If he was the most impressive interviewed, they couldn't have interviewed anyone else. Not impressed at all.
  • So of those who apparently applied

Di Canio - he would teach us that a changing room with a bit of disharmony could actually get sooo much worse
    Ally McCoist - dire manager
Paul Jewell - dodgy sec tape isn't reallybin keeping with the way we do things. Oh, and he's crap
Curbs - as KM says, why has nobody employed him...
Guy Luzon - a known quantity

I dare say Acworth threw his name into the hat. Peter Reid maybe. Nobody that would tolerate being a puppet and nobody Of interest

It's plainly clear that Luzon was the only man considered for this role. The talk of genuine applications and interviews from other parties is laughable.

They did not advertise the job so I agree there were no genuine formal applications. I believe that RD, on the advice of his football advisers, probably considered other coaches in his network.

Agree mate. Victim of circumstance and RD hanging her out to dry.

Where have those names come from? How anyone can think Luzon is better than Curbs is beyond me.
Choice Tv gave Di Canio and McCoist.

I don't accept the club's account is coherent, but it doesn't help to truncate the timeline. Peeters was sacked on Sunday, not Monday. The statement about a search beginning was issued on Monday afternoon. The 20 Acworth applications will have come in on Sunday.

The space for any interviews is theoretically between, say, Monday morning and whatever time Luzon set off for The Valley, where he arrived on Tuesday having already been appointed. Clearly he was not being interviewed by KM on Tuesday evening, in Roland's absence, as Sky portrayed.

If there were any interviews, as KM suggested there were, they will probably have been token affairs with existing network employees and unless they were conducted by RD they are a complete red herring. As KM said on the train, a key issue (for RD) is that the appointee is already known and trusted by him. That narrows the field somewhat.

No he cut her off every time she tried to explain anything.

You don't have to seem aggressive to be intimidating. The standing over her calling his mates over to watch him question then disagree and then cut her off again time and time again all the while she struggled to find the right words to explain what she could. That probably felt intimidating...
  • If the calibre of applicants were the same level that applied back then, she wouldn't have needed to!

Out of interest @suzisausage, what does a football manager's CV look like? Do they have an 'interests' section where they put stuff like 'I enjoy listening to music, reading and socialising with friends.' ?
  • As KM said on the train, a key issue (for RD) is that the appointee is already known and trusted by him.

Trusted so much that he sacked him from his last position.

I interpret that to mean RD knows he will accept instructions.

I had read a lot of this thread until I eventually managed to watch the video. After the comments I expected to see a very aggressive person who had had a few beers being the typical bombastic bully. In reality I didn't see that. Admittedly he was standing over her a bit and putting his point over quite strongly but I thought he was quite articulate. I also did think that he stopped at the right times and let her express her points to him. And I also think she was answering his questions in a very controlled, respectful manner. From the piece that I saw I don't think that there was anything wrong with it. Hopefully it will have a positive effect by helping both Katrien and RD realize the passion they are dealing with when you decide to own an English football club. Nothing but positives can come from this in my opinion.

You have a strange view of what it is for someone to listen to another person then. Everytime Meire attempted to answer his question, he spoke over her.

I wish he'd asked "why are you trying to convince us that the Luzon appointment is the result of a spontaneous, due process when it was announced in the Israeli press last month? You are lucky this time that we assumed that such an unrelated source wouldn't have a clue what was actually happening in SE7. You will find that we learn from our mistakes fast"

Part of the profile of a successful senior manager is to assert one's authority in conflict situations. Training course Roland?
  • so we lose 0-5 in an abject surrender and the crowd is chanting "we want Roly out" most of the afternoon. What possessed a seemingly intelligent woman to get on a train full of Irate Charlton fans? Bizarre. Surely someone in the club could have advised her to hang around for an hour?
