  • Quote of the week from Chris Powell:

“A few fans left early. You should never do that at a football match – ever.”
  • That game had Sheffield Wednesday at home written all over it when Leeds equalised after for some unfathomable reason Charlton decided to drop back and defend deep. Indeed, I'm sure Leeds would have gone on to score a winner if SCP had left things as they were. But thankfully this time he seemed to realise that he needed to change something and bringing Obika on and returning to a 4-4-2 instead of the 4-5-1 that had been adopted after Kerkar came on for Fuller (strange move) was the masterstroke that saw us going onto the front foot again and ultimately led to the winning goal.

I have never left early and I am glad those who left missed that goal.

Great result, dragged Leeds into the relegation fight with that win.

Deserved the win I thought, would have been gutted with a 1-1 but glad to finally get a last minute winner.

Special shout out to Michael Brown for being a terrible dirty piece of sheet.

Everyone performed well. If Pritch had the attacking technical ability in the final third he would be some player.

7 points in 7 days, happy days.
  • Great week for you...must be pretty certain of safety now?

Thats great from chris...what if you live 100 miles away from the valley and had to start work at 19.00 is he going to pay for a helicoptor to you get you there...or would he rather pople not have a season ticket and expect those people to pay on the day and miss those games.
  • Wonderful to get the last minute winner, although I really thought we had thrown away a deserved win by sitting back and nervously defending a single goal lead through much of the second half. I am a huge CP fan but really got pissed off when he put Kerkar on - he )Kerkar) simply is not good enough for this level and I very much hope he moves on and finds a role somewhere more appropriate in the summer.

Meanwhile, it feels so good to know we are just about (but not yet completely) safe and are likely to finish around mid-table. Anything in the top half would be a brilliant achievement.

Solly - I've heard it said that Byram is the next big thing at RB for England, Chris Solly was by far the better player today, even though Byram looked good.
Morrison - immense, although I was gutted he missed a good scoring chance in the first half
Hughes - a real players player, doing the simple things very well. His defensive header to foil Morison was pivotal
    Jacko - Captain Fantastic
    Yann - just superb

Leeds fans - take a bow. Loud and proud all afternoon, gave Hughesy warm and appreciative applause before AND after the game, clapped our academy lads around the pitch.

Chrissie Powell - great to see a tunnel jump that looked a bit like the ones as a player.
  • Did like the applause the Leeds fans gave for the academy players.

Thought the best player for them today was Peltier at the back, very solid and did all the simple things well when called upon. No surprise we scored when he went off injured.

My friend wanted to beat the crowds to the train station just as Kerkar won the free kick in extra time. I just about convinced him to hang around to watch it, Obika scored and he ended up staying for the rest of the game. And missing the train he wanted, but that's a trivial detail.
  • thought Hughes had another good game today - what a difference he has made, not that noticable, but has made the team gel.

Thank goodness we have tactically astute posters like yourself Golfie to point it out to us, you and the other 95% of posters who seem to have spotted it!

CP got out of jail today but someone needs to have a word in his shell-like.

Surely it's about time he appointed you to his coaching staff Golfie - we know people at the club read this forum and I'm frankly amazed that they haven't brought your nuggets of footballing wisdom to CP's attention. It borders on negligence of duty.

CP put out and setup a team which had the better of the majority of the game. Took off a veteran player who is playing with an injury and when they got a fortunate deflected equaliser he put on a striker (one that many on here had already written off as useless) who scored the deserved winner. How does he keep getting by relying on such luck?
  • Great performance all round, puts us in good heart for the trips to Barnsley and Cardiff.

Everybody to a man did their jobs today- and did them well.

Deep respect for Hughes at the end saluting both sets of fans.

Morro must have been annoyed when he missed that sitter in the first half although I naturally expected Atwell to award a goal as it was closer than the 'ghost goal' at watford he gave a few years ago!

  • Had a defining father and son moment today, last minute goal and he is now the age where he realises the importance of games and goals, we both went absolutely mental and hugging each other absolutely priceless. AFKA you've got it to come two fold, let me tell you mate it don't bet much better than that.
  • I thought our fans were excellent today, for what it's worth. I don't know to what degree this affected the players but it was really heartening to hear such positive support, especially after Leeds scored. Certainly the last ten minutes were a joy to behold - it's the best team + fan response to a setback I've seen in ages at The Valley

Quite. Bloke just down the row from me went 0-2 down against Cardiff. He went 10 minutes early again today. Serves him bloody well right.

Better a lucky manager than a good one... ;-)
  • Does anyone know where Danny Haynes was today? Seems odd that he wouldn't make the bench if fit.

    That's nice mate.
As I said earlier my son missed it today, but it's good to know that you were able to share that sort of moment with your
son. It's part of what really supporting a club is all about, rather than following one of the big clubs on the TV.
  • 18,900 at The Valley today. 15,302 watched Birmingham v Millwall.

    Blinding mate. Absolutely blinding

Nice. And, the really great thing is that once it's happened once, you know it will happen again :-)

Until he discovers girls and wants to spend Saturday afternoons chasing skirt around Bluewater! ;-)
  • It's about time we did that to someone.

What a difference in the team with a solid experienced pro in central midfield. Hughes has added the stability and continuity that has been missing. The team is better balanced and better organised. 7 points out of 9 since his return. Looking forward to seeing if Gower can do a similar job when he gets his chance.

Couldn't agree more, can never understand why so many people leave early especially if the game is like today's at 1-1. If you are more bothered about missing the traffic than seeing the end of the game then more fool you.

Was at the game with my wife and my son (a Leeds supporter) watching in the Directors Box. It was arranged to celebrate his birthday next Tuesday. We were all able to enjoy the game and my son and I had a hug at the end. I think that is what football is all about.

Something else you shouldn't do is take a striker off when you are reasonably comfortable at home with 15 minutes to play. We always need a second because at 1-0, it doesn't matter how much better we are than our opponents, we always sit back and whilst we are decent defensively, when we allow teams to play too high up the pitch, we are not very good at keeping them out. Having said that, good substitution to redeem matters by Chrissy. Leeds settled for a point too, which was welcome.

Feels like the major thing that would probably make us a real promotion contender is a 20+ striker. Not much then!!!

Same here with me and my son.
  • Nss

Nice story pal i gather you feel that we are nearly safe now
  • Superb performance today from ever single one of the players. They didn't stop working and that is the proper Charlton way and reminded me of a Curbs team. Well deserved win and Leeds would have been very lucky to get a point. Serves them right for all that time wasting.

special mention to Bradley Pritchard, he must've spent the last week practising jumping. he won countless headers today against much bigger players, don't remember him getting beaten in the air at all

    Great shout
  • Wasn't all that impressed with Obika coming on but so, so glad to be proved wrong. Hopefully that really fires him up and he can make an impression in the remaining games to convince CP to go after him, we definitely need to see abit more of him before the seasons up.

Great win to cap off a fantastic, and pivotal week for us.

Fancy us to win the remaining home games to help go towards ousting the home record demon we've got
