Charlton v Dirty Leeds 2013 post-match news and views

edited April 2013 in General Charlton
Well fought battle and rare home win. Inevitable that Varney would score, but I'm sure Powell will be rightfully and universally hailed as the masterful tactician he is... ;-)

  • Do the Obika
  • Play-offs here we come?
  • Great result
  • 7 points clear of 3rd relegation spot.

    Well done, Charlton!
  • FT stats addicks first-:
    possession............51% - 49%
    shots on................ 7 - 3
    shots off............... 4 - 3
    Corners................. 6 - 1

    GOALS.................... 2 -1
  • As I said on the match thread I seriously hope the doubters don't celebrate this win.

Jeez relax and keep the faith.
  • Obi ka ka ka, cross the ball, he'll score a goal.
  • Play-offs here we come?

if we somehow did get to the playoffs and managed to win, we have no money to bolster our squad for the premier league and would probably get slaughtered like derby did a few years ago. That said I would expect nothing more then for Charlton to aim for the plays off right now as they have some serious momentum. 2 home wins in three games just proves we can win when it really matters.

  • as expected .. we are on a roll and long may it last
  • oh and.....COYR

  • Have taken the wife to Barcelona for her birthday. Walk into room and Leeds have just leveled. B&B manager brings us a bottle of cava. Charlton immediately score winner. Life cannot be better.
  • wow ...... and relax ...
great result not even we can get relegated from this position surely

    7th-12th 40% ..... 13th-21st 59% ....... the big R 1%
  • 3rd consecutive appearance by talisman Andy Hughes = 3 games unbeaten and 7 points.

  • Me and lookie done it and boom he scores
  • Obikas goal, according to the BBC, was the first stoppage time goal we've scored all season.
  • Play-offs here we come?

Although only 8 points off, it won't happen. But when you think back there are a few games that we narrowly lost...if only
  • Amazing return from the last three games.
Well done CP and the boys.
  • At 3.20pm last saturday, things looked pretty desperate, another home defeat on the cards and 2 tough games ahead. Fast forward 7 days and we've picked up 7 points and are now virtually safe.

Huddersfield v Peterborough was a draw, Blackburn lost again, we're above Millwall and Palace are in real danger of blowing their play off spot. A superb afternoon.

    COYR!!!

We won't get play-offs we have some difficult games coming up still but we're safe. If we was to get the play-offs the money we would get for promotion is massive so we could strengthen and if we did come down build with parachute payments..

  • Hughes has made a huge difference. When Powelly is brave with his subs, it pays off!

V good point. Defo worth another contract for next season. Could be very important.
  • Brilliant result. I bet Greenie feels a bit of a twat :-)

I think theres a few feeling a bit sheepish at the mo. Keep the faith, this is why we love Charlton.

And it also begs the question, how much higher in the League we could have been with a fit Hughes playing regularly?

He seems to be a player that makes this team greater than the sum of it's parts.

I thought he was very good last season when he played. He won the hudds game for us
  • Just when we're thinking it's a great day, Gillingham get promoted.

    "Who?" I hear you ask.
  • Hughes is what we've missed in central midfield.

  • He never leaves us nolly

    The word strong is his
  • First time I've seen Obika play - very quick and dangerous. Like him. Kerka ... Hmmm.... Hughes and Jackson, work hard but too sloooooow. Worse game I've seen Wiggins play apart from the cross. Solly got better as the game went on. Harriot was our most dangerous player, Kermogant worked tirelessly, Fuller has too much attitude for an old man. Leeds were awful. McCormack the only player who looked like ever causing us any trouble!
