  • Agree seriouslyred that the next 3 games will shape the rest of the season ... Hopefully we'll be able to relax towards the seasons end , fingers crossed
  • Our players looked non league. They cannot control or pass a ball.

    Green being the exception.

    Was awful watching hoofball.
  • We looked threadbare without Solly and Stephens and the midfield was atrocious - so bad that we apparently decided to bypass it completely and just hump it up to the forwards ( including Corty for the last 10 or 15 minutes ). That was an exceptionally low grade performance and confidence is obviously on the floor at the moment.

The formation was very odd but our options in central midfield were almost non-existent and the management's attempt to shuffle the pack just didn't work. We were better after the substitutions, although by that stage, Burnley ( who were injury hit themselves ) were just sitting back and getting 10 men behind the ball.

I think we'll be ok. Although it's difficult to see on that performance where the necessary 9 or 10 points are going to come from, we'll surely at least equal the 6 home wins in our horrendous 1979/80 relegation season - won't we ? My greater concern is next year. Without strengthening, the writing is on the wall for a season of struggle.

    We certainly didnt miss Stephens
He was abismal against notts forset
Wouldn't trust him to pass the salt
Miss Hollands in the middle of the park
  • knew we were changing things and going more attacking yesterday, which i was pleased about, but that midfield was never going to work. Devitte, in a 3 man midfield!!? - he's a centre half - he cannot play football - thought that was conclusively proved the week before - concerned for CP - I like him but doing himself no favours at the moment and its true our home form is abysmal. I've got about 10 new season ticket holders signed up this year and loss after loss after loss really isn't what is going to nail them as life long fans. dervitte?, obika and haynes both starting? no solly? all baffling but just hoping CP can turn it around. We all get it wrong sometimes, so for me, his time ain't up yet. Given the funds, i believe he would get it right again so for me - keep the faith.
  • Solly (and Stephens) were injured.
  • In response to those Lifers mentioning a mentor for SCP, I was told that Curbs was at yesterday's game....
  • don't undertand all this 'hostility from the crowd' rubbish. There isn't any. If the 'hostility' at The Valley affects them then how would they feel at other clubs. The hostility at The Valley amounts to a smattering of deserved boos and an old guy in the West discarding his blanket in a fit of pique. I'd say that 99 per cent of the crowd are desperate for CP to succeed but are beginning to doubt because of selection, formation and bizarre substitutions. And I don't think you can blame them. Unless you are lucky enough to take in a few away games then you have walked away from The Valley about twice this season happy with what you have seen on the pitch. And now you are being asked to pay a big increase to watch the same rubbish next season. And nothing suggests it will be different. We have no money but the heirachy want us in the PL in to seasons. Without significant investment it won't happen. And if they end up spending money we have not got chasing the dream who knows where we will end up. People are disillusioned that's all but there is no hostility towards CP or the team in my opinion.

I still think however that IF money becomes available it won't be CP who sees he benefit of it. The lower we finish the easier it will be for them to dispose of CP and if it happens in the summer then they would hope that by the beginning of the season any hostility towards the Board would have dissipated especially if they appoint someone we are impressed with and invest significantly in the team. That's assuming that they care what we think in the first place.

  • Basically we have a shit squad no formation or amount of tinkering is gonna turn them into half decent championship players
They have outperformed their natural ability to get us where we are in the table
Everyone has a load of different suggestions and whatever SCP does is no good because most of the players are pony
Burnley were awful got their goal and sat back , just like we attempted to against wednesday , palace and birmingham , it worked for burnley cos they were up against one of the most pathetic ,weak gutless onslaughts you're likely to see and the apathy and non passion of the fans as we threw the kitchen plug at them said it all .
Good turnout from the london based burnley in the middle of a shit run and they must have been happy to be against our powder puff crew ...
Obikack was horrendous , let's hope he turns it around but whatever he does it won't change that performance ...miserable

    10% 7th-12th ........ 65% 13th-21st .... 25% the bottom 3 be afraid be very afraid

25% R is stupid. Will you please stop being such a c ""nt "this sort of negativity is the only thing that cud get us relegated. PLEASE STOP I think you care about Charlton but nobody does more damage to us than us you. If we do get relagated it will be fair to say NO supporter will have have had more impact on that tah you. so pleaase F "" k OFF

    wtf strange post.

But I do agree with you it's all Oohaah's fault and we lost the game because of his posts on here.
  • We lost the game because the North Lower wasn't full
  • I don't see why people were moaning and booing, surely they'd all settle for mid-table in the first season back, but alas, these could be the ones who expect us to win every week and be up there around the autos. They're deluded. If they hate it that much then they don't have to come and they might as well give up their season ticket and go watch Fulham or something.

Don't you dare have a go at me for making my feelings felt at the end of the game. I travel to most home matches from Chesterfield - thats commitment- commitment thats sadly lacking at the moment from a lot of the team.

I have every right to critisize the hoofball we are served up with at the moment. I don't expect us to win every week but what I do expect is every player to be able to honestly say at the end of the game is I gave 100%.

I am totally fed up with the bizzare team selections, what the F***k is Dervitte all about? I want Chris Powell to succede but I am rapidly losing faith.

Go and support Fulham? I have supported Charlton since 1957 don't you dare patronise me!
  • Go on son!!

don't undertand all this 'hostility from the crowd' rubbish. There isn't any.

Exactly ..... But if there was hostility we'd be saying that it affects their performances !!
So conversely can we say that the lack of hostility is letting the players off the hook and they are underperforming because they haven't realised the true ground swell of f***ed offness with them ....

    Let's blame the fans ffs

    Spot on mate.

Too many people on here that are accepting sh't performances and decisions. I wouldn't mind if we were losing playing well or making a game of it but we aren't.
  • The pitch isnt helping i watched the ball getting stuck in the mud at least three times when players were attempting to move on.

CP clearly knows (as do all the other teams )and everyone who has seen us this year that the main problem is in mid field. At times on sat he was playing 4 2 2 ---4 3 3 and even 4 2 4 . Although im not sure if it was organised that way!

An extra centre half in front of a defence that isnt that bad ,just dont understand tat and a waste of a place.

BWP away when his contract is up at the end of the season and some nobody from Spurs in to replace makes no sense. Ok we aint got money so play the kids !!!

If we aint got a pot to piss is how did we get Hulse and Fringpong ? makes no sense.

The crowd aint giving them much stick considering the kak we have had to put up with--------its the silence that i find more of a worry. Its like we know we are doomed before we evenm get in the ground.

As for the lets all get behind the team ---yes in a fluffy world thats great, but FFS given us something to shout about.

Most of our lot (all oldies) have stopped going. Their season tickets werent renewed and now they pick the odd game------our support will plummet next year --- unless we get in 5/6 good level players.

If CP dosnt get good money next season we will go down and its in no way certain we wont this year.

At the moment i will go to the Smallwall game-- even tho its like a visit to the dentist and maybe the last home game. Its no fun anymore and with less and less of our crowd there its not even a meeting place anymore.

  • Last week I came away angry, this week I came away sad. We are watching a badly coached squad with a tactically inept manager. For the last 10 minutes our only plan was to pump it high into their box, while our best hope of making anything of that is suspended. It was more like 'Its a Knockout' than a game of football. Pity that Stuart Hall is otherwise engaged, he would have given us a wonferful commentary.

    Good Post

    Seconded
  • ...............I am getting more and more frustrated at our inability to pass to our own men. I lived up to my Meldrew name on Saturday with "red passes to...........blue" repeated over and over...........................aaaaarrrgghhhhhhh!
  • Chrissy was clearly trying to find the right formula- the 4-3-3 didn't work imo because the front men played too independantly. Burnley defended well - I f you get past them they'll foul you and they are well organised. We defended well enough. Maybe a bit of tinkering but being more offensive at home is the way to go.

That's the really sad thing. CP seems to have abandoned his free flowing, attacking, good football philosophy. In much the same way that Curbs changed the style of play when Parker departed, Powell did a similar thing with the arrival of Kermy and the departure of Paul Hayes. That's not a criticism of Kermy who I think is a terrific player. But since his arrival we have relied increasingly on his aerial prowess to the distraction of good passing football on the ground. Even when we were winning games last season, we were mostly relying on nicking a goal and then holding on. Ironically Kermy is equally as good on the ground but we rarely see that due to the absence of a nippy, intelligent forward partner to feed off him and the lack of wingers. Too late to change things this season now, but CP seriously needs to think about the entertainment aspect that ultimately puts bums on seats for next season.

Don't talk gash - how is a supporter, or indeed a few thousand of them, going to get us relegated ?
  • Some people are blaming the pitch for our poor results.

Why do other teams still manage to play good football on it?

But how can he be tactically inept with our away form? If that was true, we would be just as bad away from home. Still don't know why anybody should panic with a 7 point cushion and several other teams between us and the bottom 3.

Yeah looks like Charlie Austin struggled with the pitch , we need to adapt and quickly , Tuesday nights match is MASSIVE.

thing is mate we have a tricky March and we need to start to collect points at home to make sure of safety. Generally the opinion is 50 points but plenty of teams have been relegated with 52-53 so we are potentially 9-10 points from comfort. Additionallly the teams below us are starting to get some form going especially Peterborough who we play tomorrow.

On balance I think we will be just about OK but all these comments are a result of us sitting through two absolutely dreadful perfromances which lets be honest were relegation form.
