  • Great goal from Austin, however just before their picks up a back pass and no free kick given. The only reason he picked it up as it would have been a corner. Could still be there now and not score, very poor game from our point of view.
  • Here we go.

Tried a very attacking fornation at home, didn't work.

Brought subs on early, we still didn't win.

    Missing Kermo and Solly.

    All Powell's fault obviously

Disjointed, lots of poor individual performances and little team play in yet another different formation. The formation changes can be laid at Powell's door.

Wonderful goal but button had one other real save to make.

Their keeper made one fantastic save from Haymes but otherwise had little to do.

Burnley the better of two average to poor sides.

Oh, for a dominant midfield player to exploiit the possession we had.

Obika didn't impress but first start in an unusual formation so not writing him off yet

Thank gawd for our away form. We are going to need it
  • Look I know that I always get told I am being negative but tbh it is only a game of football and I am finding it hard to care much at the moment. So this is just my opinion - I said it a while back and will say it again. This season has relegation written all over it. Never mind the fact I am in california for the run in. Last two times we have been relegated I have been in the same hotel in the same town which is where I will be again! Anyway, no passion and no clue. Obika is no way on earth a better option than bwp. And please stop with the "powell is god" and we are "safe and comfortable mid table". Who knows if he is the best manager for us at this level tbh, but he got it wrong again today and shouldn't be immune to criticism. And it is quite clear now we are not safe, and never were.
  • yep subs were spot on called them both at half time, but Dervite starting again just aint on really.
  • Why was Haynes on the left wing? I don't profess to know more about football than our manager but the guy is our most prolific striker....it's not quantum physics

Strange starting line-up. I thought "I hope Powell knows what he's doing". He does - he's proved that whoever he puts on the pitch they all play the same. At home (I admit it's different away) it just looks to me like we have a squad full of average players, with a couple of exceptions.

Saddens me to say it but I think Saggy is right. was our stand out player today by a country mile.

The starting line up confused me - were we really trying 3 up front ???? In know we shouldn't judge new players by their first appearances but Obika did NOTHING for me. Couldn't really understand why SCP didn't take him off at halftime and replace him with a decent midfielder as , once again this was the area that badly needed strengthening. Dervite did his best and Pritch broke up play a few times but it was too lightweight with no play maker , hence hoofball from the back to the front ensued. Elementary , my dear Chrissy ...

Very depressed tonight and starting to worry where we might finish the season. Are there any positives out there , please ? HELP !

  • Once I saw the starting lineup I thought we're F***ed! 3 up front with a midfield of Pritchard Jackson and Dorian D - what a joke!
Losing faith in CP who seems to be losing the plot! Would have won the game if we'd started with two wide men.
Green was like a dynamo when he came on but sadly we couldn't salvage a point.
F*** knows what CP will do next.
  • Posting before reading as usual.
Oh dear, another defeat to support all negative views.
We weren't total rubbish, we didn't have a Charlie Austin and lots of our efforts went astray, their keeper also had a good game.
So we were not total chite, BUT we didn't get any points....and we still need those points to avoid relegation, so our focus should be on keeping on trying, not running around screaming 'don't panic'.
I felt the players gave a damn, tried their best....but the game seemed like one where we were being reminded of the level we have reached which is lower Championship, and we will remain thus with the resources we have. I would be perfectly happy to avoid relegation this season, and next season too.
Today I felt Obika brought very little to the party, Pritchard worked and worked and worked as usual, everybody was a decent average, but Burnley were a good average if you get my drift.
No complaints from me, cheesed off yeah, but simply wanting us now to survive the season in this division....but to do that the players will have to adjust their perspectives a little, and give everything in the remaining 11 matches.
  • Hmmm better than v forest. Not good enough. However what options do we have in midfield. Have now come to the conclusion that we should have kept BWP and used what money we have to get in midfield starter. Our forwards however many of them there are are not hoof ball players. Fuller is double marked. Morrison had a mare today and bottled it when he could have scored but would have collided with the post. Pritch again full of energy but too lightweight, a good div 1 player but above his level now. Wiggins justified his selection. Button did ok spilt one but Morrison created uncertainty in rront of him. Fortunately we are away on Tuesday see you there.
  • Ooops ! Meant that Wiggy was our best player .

was there really 20000 there today??!!

No but the fact that the owners felt that thay had to pretend there were gives me a straw to cling.

Yet more potential owners to impress?
  • Get hamer back in I know button didn't have much to do but pawed at a few shots and something not very safe about him , we're awful we hoof the ball up its all quite ugly . They will not win when Millwall come they will find a way not to win that's for sure
  • I feel sorry for Paddy Powell, he has been right stitched up, he thought he bought shit loads of grass seed, and some bastard sold him bird seed, never seen so many birds on the valley pitch.

I was told today by a good source that the reason why the pitch is ruined is that the volunteers who cleared the pitch when the snow was on it , cleared the top surface of the grass as well.
  • Oh yeah P.S.
No way were there 20k there, somehow the East Stand, and the North looked more full, perhaps with some kind of mysterious manipulation of sorts.
The result is that the place would look more full if you were say, in the West Stand, say in corporate, say in the directors box, say a guest of the owners.
I'm not saying anything guv, honest. But I am giving you an old fashined look, and tapping the side of my not inconsiderable schnozzle!
  • Ugly performance. We seem to have given up passing altogether in favour of long balls and hopeful flick-ons. Shape improved a bit after the subs and Green did ok. Wiggins is gradually getting better but still lacks his pre-injury pace. Otherwise, difficult to think of any positives. Stephens is disliked by many on here but we are much worse without him.

We desperately need 3 points at Peterborough and if anyone thinks thats going to be easy they are badly disillusioned. Peterborough may be below us in the table but at least they have players who know how to hit the back of the net.

Losing patience with SCP tonight. All it takes is for our away form to dip and we are in a relegation dog fight - no doubt about it.

Depressing but I still think we can stay up....just.

The board better put their f*cking hands in their pockets next season and support SCP otherwise I'd rather we were back in Div 1 to be honest with you. No point in being a Championship team if we can't be competitive.
  • First half we were terrible, no shape, no understanding, we didn't have a clue. Why play deshite in midfield at home when we need to create some chances. Makes no sense to me and the guy from spurs he can't even control the ball. We have let a far better player go out on loan, bloody stupid decision.

Looked better once changes were made more balanced, more attacking but why wait so long should have been made at half time (if not before). The pidgeons in front of us looked more intersting than the football at times.

Pissed off, so pissed off I'm not renewing season ticket until we are safe.

Great finish for their goal by the way.

Awful. Can someone please tell me the point of getting rid of BWP and bringing in Obika? A really bizarre formation today with no strength in midfield. There players had so much space in key areas in the first half that if we had come up against a bit of quality we would have been torn apart. Dervite playing in front of the back four failed to work, again, along with the 3 strikers. Why can't we just start with a 4 4 2 and go for it? Truly awful first half separated by one moment of quality from Austin. Fair enough we missed a couple of players through injury but that combined with a lack of quality in depth means we are going to struggle staying away from the relegation zone. Also what is it with these frigging pigeons!!!!!!!!!! Bring back Dowie to scare them off.
  • An unbalanced team lacking conviction some players completely out of their depth. Very poor performance sending us closer to the drop zone. Some of the players just are not up to championship standard. We are short of midfielder players and just were not competing today until we added some width which was too little too late.
  • Been on holiday since last Saturday and missed both Forest and this, thank f*ck. After such a great win at Leicester two. Thank god we have two away games ahead.

Concerned and depressed, still think we'll be okay but I fear for Powell. Obviously haven't seen Obika play but based on reviews of him from elsewhere etc, I was very disappointed about him coming in and BWP going but my guess is that the swap was made not out of choice by SCP, but by the board because Obika is probably costing us about 5k less a week. And (if) when your hands are tied like that then it is pretty tough. I'll be so angry if Jiminez does anything stupid. Having said that, the formation did seem ludicrous.

  • Got to say that was woeful. 4-5-1 to 4-3-3 didn't work and looked ill-conceived, 4-4-2 was marginally better, then we played like Stoke in the last 10 minutes, long balls & long throws hoping for knock-downs.

If Hughes is fit enough, get him into the Central Midfield. We need stability and continuity in the middle of the park. The rest of the team will improve 100% if the central midfield is functioning properly. The Centre backs will be better protected, the full backs and wide players will receive better possession and the front players will get better service. At present there are big spaces for the opposition to play through and all we seem to be doing is helping the ball on.

4-3-3 needs to be placed in the bin marked "midfield diamond" from earlier in the season. We ain't got the players suitable for either formation.
  • Think they should put back the date for early price season ticket renewals. Just in case its leauge 1 football.
  • We lack enthusiasm in midfield ( which IMO is Jacksons job , yet he is the quietest player on the pitch ad doesn't say a word ) - next game i wanna see stephens and Hughes in the middle with either kerkar or harriott on the left and green on the right aswell as Haynes and fuller up top ( maybe even Michael smith ) with some youngsters on the bench who will inject pace and want into the team
I don't feel the performance is due to Powell - what can he do with these players , players who are on the majourity lazy and don't want to be their
  • Our squad isn't good enough. There is only so much Powell can do. Funny people come on here to say Powell got it wrong, out of his depth. What about the players who couldn't control a football?!

4 - 3 -3 was a brave and positive that made sense tactically. With Wilson and Wiggins at full back we would always have extra service coming from the back with Dervite to cover their runs forward. It meant that our dangermen where all on the pitch. But most of all it was brave and bold and it's good to see that in a manager. The squad is so low on quality, but Powell is trying to work with what he's got.

If he'd gone 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 with the same players he would be lambasted for not experimenting. Can't win with some.
  • I agree with those who say that they'd like to see Hughes in the middle for the next game. Correct me if I am wrong but he has played at this level in the past and is maybe the experienced head we need right now.
  • Completely outplayed last week, but Forest are the best side to visit the Valley this season, on that performance at least. However, today we weren't good enough to beat what I thought was the worst side we've played at home. The football is so bad it's unbelievable.

Was surprised by the team selection and didn't really understand how the system was supposed to work. Dervite showed last week that he can't pass the ball so playing him in front of the back four is obviously a very cautious, defensive measure. Fair enough, but how does that fit with picking Fuller, Haynes and Obika? Pritchard and Jackson were never going to get them into the game. Why has Obika been signed and Wright Philips loaned out? Not obvious on today's showing.

Not sure whether it's the home or away form that's the outlier, but the games at Peterborough and Huddersfield are now going to be important. Six pointers are, of course, a double-edged sword.

Wouldn't now be surprised if Chris Powell goes in the summer.
  • Oh for a decent one-two, let alone a goal.
  • I don't see why people were moaning and booing, surely they'd all settle for mid-table in the first season back, but alas, these could be the ones who expect us to win every week and be up there around the autos. They're deluded. If they hate it that much then they don't have to come and they might as well give up their season ticket and go watch Fulham or something.
  • Absolute chuff for 70mins. Huffed and puffed for the last 20 but could still be out there now and we wouldn't have scored.

Dervite looked like a turkey waiting for Xmas. Didn't want the ball and whenever it came near him he offloaded it (largely to no one or Burnley players) as quick as possible.

Was clear within 15mins the formation wasn't working and we should have gone 4-4-2 at half time.

    Fuller vanished second half.

Is Obika anywhere near as good as BWP?

Pitch looks like it is getting worse.

Ultimately it is the fans fault though.

Up until their goal we were the better side and created some decent attacking football. So your "70 minutes of chuff" comment is a load of crap.

Well done to those who booed at half time (Pratts)
