We sit back, hoof it to Yann and fight for scraps? The oppo have to come out and play as they are at home leaving more space behind. We try and nick a win, different tactics required at home as the away team will sit back more.

Not really Powell's fault though, he has no quality midfield player who can create chances against a defensive team.
Better than last week but it made it clear we don't have the midfield and attackers to play 4-3-3. Got to be 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 depending on the opposition.
I don't blame Powell for experimenting, we needed more of a threat than the team he picked v Forest. We tried to be more attacking, subs came on early, we switched formation and a youngster got a chance.
The weaknesses in midfield have been clear for over a year now, it's no surprise we're struggling at this level to get those last few points we need.
Won't write off Obika yet but based on that he doesn't look like a winger or wide man in a front 3. Think we in effect giving him a trial and at the same time saving money by loaning out BWP.
For me it comes down to the quality of the players we have. They are motivated and they are working hard, but with this squad at this level we'll lose more than we win. Just having an Andy Reid and a Charlie Austin could make a big difference.
The truth is always somewhere in between the extremes, Powell's made mistakes but with the resources he has he's got this squad into a decent position. We should have enough to stay up, a couple of wins and a few draws could do it. We do though need investment in the summer to stop us going backwards (or, hopefully, really push on).
I don't see why people were moaning and booing, surely they'd all settle for mid-table in the first season back, but alas, these could be the ones who expect us to win every week and be up there around the autos. They're deluded. If they hate it that much then they don't have to come and they might as well give up their season ticket and go watch Fulham or something.
one of the most idiotic posts ever !!!
I have been supporting the club for almost 40 years and have witnessed a lot of ups & downs, but I have never gone to a game expecting to see a win and at the start of the season I would have taken mid table obscurity. What I didn't expect & wont accept is a team not knowing where they are supposed to be playing and not being able to pass 10 yards to another player in a red shirt. CP team selections are now becoming a joke - 3 so called forwards today supported by 3 midfielders who can't pick a pass.........so ended up with 3 frontmen chasing shadows. Only when Danny Green came on did things change,,,,,,,,which ISNT'T BLOODY SURPRISING as he is a winger who can cross a ball, something which neither Waggy,Haynes,Pritchard etc etc can do and have been played there in front of him.
I have so much more to add, but can't be bothered..........only to say (and will probably get crucified for it) that I don't care if we lose to Millwall in 2 weeks time so long as we don't lose the next two games - they are more important as they are both 6 pointers & if we can keep them both 4 or 5 points behind us we may just stay up.
At this level Powell is totally out of his depth, that Burnley team had one win in seven, so not a great champ side. CP makes Parky look like a master tactician. No pattern to our play, players in wrong positions, hoofball, no Waggy again,Haynes out wide, the bloke is clueless
I'm fed up with the knee jerk doom and gloom negativity recently on this site.
Get a grip you lifers. We are a club in transition. Sir Alex would struggle with this squad of average L1 players with the obvious exceptions.
Yes I too really hate coming home again like today from a dismal home performance. However, our problem is ONLY our home form, playing away we title contenders...yes quite rightly so we expect to win at the Valley as its our home, and the reality in that owners sell more season tickets.
Lets be honest most of us rarely see our boys play away matches so watching at home is the only way we can measure our boys.
The bottom bottom line however is the score on the doors, we are still OK and we can afford to lose a few matches here and there and there are other clubs in freefall (Birmingham eg) and worse than us. We do still have to watch out though as we are 7 points off relegation.
Lets see ourselves thru this tough spell and get behind the boys and believe in the boss, we'll be OK as we are Charlton remember.
Did we play a formation today, looked totally disjointed and all we played was hoof ball. To carry on playing Dervite at home in the midfield is just suicidal. I know we dont have the biggest squad in the world but Jackson is a passenger in the midfield most games just bypass him but yet his always first on the teamsheet. Yes we dont have any money to spend and yes the squad is small but most of the teams in the championship are shite. Its the baffling formations and playing players out of position that seem to be costing us.
I don't see why people were moaning and booing, surely they'd all settle for mid-table in the first season back, but alas, these could be the ones who expect us to win every week and be up there around the autos. Completely agree with golfie. The only thing saving us is that there are just too many teams below us who all need to get a shed load of points to get past us and they won't all do it. But we need fundamental surgery before next season or we wl be relegation certainties next year. Sorry, not forking out 440 notes until a) we are safe and b) there is some sign of change.
At the moment we look a poor team with poor players, not many of which came out with much credit today. Many more performances like that and we will be right in a relegation dogfight, if we aren't already. 2 big games coming up against peterborough and huddersfield where we need points, the only saving grace being that they are both away.
Said last week that Dervite, Pritch Inspection and Jacko must be the weakest midfield trio in the division so appalled to see the same midfield trio appear again today but this time with no additional support. Any idiot can see that while Dervite might be a competent centre-back having him jogging aimlessly around the middle third for 90 mins offers us absolutely nothing at all.
Worst I have ever seen Fuller play for us and why did we have strikers on the wings and then refuse to pass to them preferring to blast it first time up the middle to Fuller?
Not Saint Chris's fault we only have one decent enough midfielder in the squad but given that, why not use width?
On a positive note I thought Green was a breath of fresh air and offered energy, technique and flair. Should start every time in my view.
We will get sucked into trouble based on the last two performances.
Trouble is he's been given numerous chances and he doesn't take them. Like most of our players it seems I s'pose..
Green at least offers a threat and has the technique to justify being selected for a Championship fixture. More than can be said for many others.
The formation was dire. The players are of low quality but that formation was wrong. CP is responsible for that.
We had x3 centre backs on. I don't expect centre backs to be great passers of the ball at centre back. I do though when they are supposed to be playing the holding midfield position. Having Dervite against Forest did not work last week and it did not work this week. Dervite did not protect the back four either. Stephens had a mare last week partly due to the terrible formation. Without Stephens the passing was non existant. There was 7 players pushed back and a huge gap between the defence and forward, which created an incredibly disjointed performance in which the players displayed no confidance.
We had x3 centre forwards on at left wing, centre forward and right wing. (We have had no pace wingers in Pritchard and Jackson in those positions and that does not work either).
We badly missed Solly as it forced Wilson to right back.
We need to stick to WIlson, Pritchard and Wagstaff in midfield for the energy and Stephens / Jackson for the football with lump and front and fast player (Haynes + ) playing down the middle.
The team is short on quality. A busy energetic pressing midfield may help us fight for the points and get enough to prevent relegation. CP needs to play to our players strengths and try as much as possible to put round pegs in round holes.
I went today thinking it couldn't possibly be as bad as last week. Well it nearly was.
I'm still in a state of shock at that starting line-up. Playing 4-3-3 with a midfield of Dervite (can't pass to a red shirt), Pritchard (love the way he gives 100% every week but looking so limited at the moment) and Jackson (a real good pro but one whose legs have just given up) was crazy. Chris Powell changed it soon after KO when it was obvious it wasn't working so whilst I suppose you could say credit him for realising early on it need to change, if the team has been practicising that formation all week then it was a blooming waste of a week.
I felt sorry for that young kid Obika. Looked like a rabbit in the headlights and so out of his depth it was frightening. Not the greatest admirer of BW-P but honestly, how the hell have we shipped him out and brought this young lad in?

Trying to think of ways we can improve the side at home.
Maybe Pritchard in the DM position? Can pressure players, while Cort and Morrison deal with high balls.
Then Stephens and Jackson more offensive in the middle, with Green and Waggy out wide?
Maybe a midfielder who is bulkier than 6 stone and who can tackle occasionally would be better suited to that defensive midfield role.
The defence doesn't need bloody protecting and is quite capable of looking after itself- its the strikers need a pass once or twice over 90 minutes that is not aimed at their necks or above.
Powell presumably (I can think of no other reason...) was influenced by the pitch. In 30 years I have never before seen Charlton go 4-3-3 from the off and lump it. Poor old Obika (who is a Div 3 player at best) has probably never even played in a 4-3-3, let alone been effective in one. The whole performance improved with the introduction of Green and the switch to 4-4-2. I can also only imagine that BWP was farmed out to BFC for monetary reasons because if he's not a FAR better option than Obika, I'll eat my season ticket.
In fairness, most (not all...Mr Fuller) of the players did their best with it. A 1-0/0-0 would have been about right because Burnley didn't bother to attack at all. Well done to Austin for his wonder goal...an amazing strike.
A throw back to the Phil Chapple up front in the last 5 days, with Cort (bless him) basically getting in the way of anything remotely promising.
As a season ticket holder, I feel almost feel within my rights to ask for my money back, such is the state of the pitch and the lack of entertainment as a result thereof. Today wasn't far short of watching non-league football....Austin's strike apart.
PS: Button looked the part as did Wilson & Wiggins.
Honestly fed up with this shit football we play. Even when we win we play shit football. Last year when we won the title we played rubbish football in large parts only went un noticed with everyone due to the fact we won the league not by playing well but by getting result digging in.
So fed up. Major re shuffle in the summer is needed. Some players aren't technically at the level which is required.
First the good news: Button looked good, Wiggins played another 90 minutes, we can win away and there are only five more home games! And I've just watched Sheffield Wednesday lose to Forest - two teams who we should be competing with but only one had a clue how to create chances. This is a very tight league and a win today would have kept us above Burnley...CAFC is in transition but the lack of investment in the squad in January is really starting to show now... we simply have no alternatives in midfield! Despite what some say, we do have players who can play 10-20 yard balls but Dervite ain't one of them! I trust that we can secure points in the next few games to keep us mid-table and increase the gap over the bottom three. As for entertainment? I'm not necessarily looking for that when I go to the Valley but I am looking for signs that the club is moving forwards - and I haven't seen that since the first half at Selhurst Park... So looking forward to Millwall with Kermorgant leading the line - if we haven't secured a win by the end of that one then there will be panic!
Why didn't we start with Haynes and fuller up top and a midfield of green pritch jj waggy?strange formation and obika reminds me of nouble which isn't good.
I don't see why people were moaning and booing, surely they'd all settle for mid-table in the first season back, but alas, these could be the ones who expect us to win every week and be up there around the autos. Agree with this. (apart form the losing to millwall bit)
Why cant we go down the bi line (pretty sure thats how you spell it/call it) and cross the ball. crossing or hoofing from deep is a piece of piss for defenders who can watch the ball as it floats in. the only time we looked threatening was when Wilson crossed right on the line causing a slight bit of havoc in the burnley defence. Green comes on adds a bit of that but struggles passing players. we bring Harriot who seems capable of passing players but we don’t give him the ball!
only thing i would add in a slight positive manner... I actually think the players were trying. the tactics, their positions and their ability in general let them down.
It looked like a match of two teams who look scrappy and not that special in this league, the only difference is we have not got a player like Charlie Austin up front.
I am a big fan of Powell but I thought his team selection was madness today. I don't understand why Powell used all 3 strikers in the eleven and play one of them on the wing when we had no strikers on the bench. Haynes has been effective whenever he plays upfront so I don't understand why he got put on the wing and I don't think he was suited there. Obika was very quiet up top so I think an oppotunity was missed today.
I thought when the 2nd half started that Powell should have played Green on the right wing and play Pritchard in the centre and take Dervite off so I thought his subs were spot on today and I thought we looked better since that change took place. Green was more effective and Harriot looked decent, I think Harriot should play a few games so he can settle and he could develop into a good player. Least he is pacey!
I thought we deserved a draw in the end but our finishing costed us today but hopefully Powell will use his 4-4-2 formation Millwall game because that worked well in the end.
Whatever you might think of Stephens, without him there is no 'out' ball. None of the midfield are comfortable on the ball, so for the most part it gets bypassed. The game becomes a disjointed mess with the defence lumping it forward and the strikers getting pissed off with no decent service. We are struggling for quality and the header from Haynes following a decent cross from Wilson stood out as a proper bit of football amongst the dross. Haynes should NEVER play wide, he is wasted there and we have been down that road several times and the result is always the same. Green was a marginal improvement, but he is as inconsistent and just as likely to revert to normal in the next game. Dervite is a centre half. The team are sleepwalking into the relegation scrap some of us have been predicting for weeks. Anyway, most of the crowd seem to have accepted our fate, given the total indifference I see around me at every game. No passion on the pitch and precious little in the stands.

If we are on 43/44 then we are in big trouble.
A win on Tuesday would be really, really nice.
Not looking forward to millwall one bit.
Lots of huffing and puffing and Burnley defended very well but we deserved at least a point out of the game
Still confident we will be outside the bottom 6 but showed today how much we miss certain players
