  • This is certainly not meant as a slight on Andy Hughes. I thought we played some of our best football with him in the team last year. I do find it highly telling about the quality or lack of in our midfield when a player that many thought would be surplus to requirements and not good enough for The Championship is now being viewed as a possible saviour of our rapidly disintegrating season. Hope he is fit enough quickly. He undoubtedly has the character to give us a lift.
  • A lot of people voting Jackson higher than Pritchard in the match thread, which is sentimental madness IMO. Pritchard had a really good game I thought, winning headers, making countless tackles, interceptions etc and showing very good close control to set things moving. Almost everything good came through him and he got away down the right a few times. And yet the familiar autoprattle of 'lightweight' and 'non-league player' gets trumpeted. Against Forest he was outmuscled a few times, but yesterday? Yesterday he dominated the Burnley midfield and showed great composure. We needed more like him, not fewer. Jackson and Dervite (apart from one incredible long pass by the latter) were stodgy and ineffectual by comparison (Jackson's great and all but I don't harbour the same thoughts of loyalty to him as I did to captains past...I think he's got a great left foot and an astute tactical brain but he is severely hampered by his lack of mobility)
  • powelly could do with a nice long sit down with paul hart a man that has been there got the teeshirt ect, have a chat with him about the current situation, even maybe ask him to be around the bench on a match day, just feel powelly needs some guidence, dyer no doubt is a good coach but cant help get the feeling he wouldnt want to upset the boss. i may be comepletly wrong but you can clearly see how much we are struggling and i want powelly to get the best help he can before any rash crazy movement s from the suits upstairs or he loses the crowd, would be so upsetting to see powelly get the parky treatment, we do have a real chartlon gem in chrissy just he needs some bloody help and inspiration and i hope he is strong enough to get it and inspire the lads to turn this around.
  • Pritchard didn't have a good game
  • All those that say that CP is "clutching at straws" are correct.

Mourinho would be clutching at straws with this squad.

Keith Peacock is "Football Adviser" I believe.

I agree with you that he needs to talk to an "old head" be it Peacock, Hart or AN Other.

  • I agree with you that he needs to talk to an "old head" be it Peacock, Hart or AN Other.

How do you know that he isn't already consulting a mentor?

I don't and if he is all well and good but even if he is he needs another chat!

What makes you think he doesn't?

  • Paul Hart is not exactly Fergie though.

Then why did you make the assertion that he wasn't?

    I didn't!

If you read the thread properly AdamtheAddick suggested he should speak to Paul Hart.

I merely mentioned that Peacock has an advisory role and agreed that he needed a chat with an "old head." No suggestion whatsoever that he hadn't chatted previously!
  • Shame, Curbs is not around other than just a spectator to the club for Chris Powell to talk to. Maybe Curbs does give the occasional bit of advice, you never know.
  • Concerned. Did not look like scoring at all yesterday and the confidence of the players is shot to pieces at present. Need four points from the next 2 games or the bottom 3 will be looking to close for comfort.
  • Soon as i saw the teamsheet yesterday i started looking at who the other teams had in their games yesterday cos i knew they wernt going to win. I am usually a pretty good judge of a player in his first game, i cant see what Obika has that BWP hasnt....

Where have all the we'll make the playoff's people gone. Slight improvment on last week but did anybody genuinely feel we were going to score, no neither did I.

Great strike from Austin i was behind that in the East stand saw him tee it up and thought look out.

After Tuesday's game we will have the worst home record in the division, fergie must wish the game was this afternoon. Hope i am proved wrong, but doubt it.
  • Lots of really good posts on here but the fact is this was another dire performance bearing in mind Burnley are not as good team as Forest. No midfield Jackson and Pritchard tried hard but looked second best, only CP knows why Dervitte is playing in midfield and Wilson is no full back.

So lack of quality and a manager who appears to be confused as to how he wants the team to play. All in all it was truely dire!
  • Other than taking corners what does Jackson offer the team anymore?
Not good enough to be a winger in this league and not good enough to be a CM

He's our joint top scorer this season.

Pritchard didn't have a good game

At last someone speaking sense! Maybe some lifers were mistaking Pritch for Danny Green, an easy mistake to make!
  • Thought Obika looked lightweight and awful. Why bring him in and pay his wages when we could give Harriot or Green, who injected some urgency when he came on, a game.

  • Because having SOMEONE upfront, whether good or not means the oppo defence have to keep someone on him. We can't have no-one to bring on when, as now, we have our main striker out and two who cannot complete a full 90. BWP may be better - so why wasn't he being started? Plus the wages issue.
Clearly we need to strengthen midfield, not many strikers can create their own chances, but we knew that at the start of the season and it hasn't happened yet, so it won't now.
I don't think we are looking at relegation - we ought to be with this terrible run, but we are still some way clear of the relegation zone, and despite a good result for the Posh I don't think we are justified in considering our away game against them some kind of footballing everest FFS.
  • Bwp loaned out! Our current strikers are hardly on fire.
Danny green best player on the pitch by far,oh Yeh would have been loaned out if it went through.
Sorry Powell is losing my faith.
  • Green the only player who actually knew we were losing! At least Knew what diretion the opponents goal was!

  • >On the positive side, we played much, much better today than we did last week. And....that's about it really. Nothing much to say that isn't negative so I'll leave it at that.

I couldn't make it last week but if they played worse than this then we are in trouble, I have rarely seen professional footballers make so many " unforced errors " the constant passing the ball to the opposition was probably the worst of them. As for Haynes being the quickest player in this league ? I just watched a defence keeping him firmly in their pocket for both skill and pace.

  • Basically we have a shit squad no formation or amount of tinkering is gonna turn them into half decent championship players
They have outperformed their natural ability to get us where we are in the table
Everyone has a load of different suggestions and whatever SCP does is no good because most of the players are pony
Burnley were awful got their goal and sat back , just like we attempted to against wednesday , palace and birmingham , it worked for burnley cos they were up against one of the most pathetic ,weak gutless onslaughts you're likely to see and the apathy and non passion of the fans as we threw the kitchen plug at them said it all .
Good turnout from the london based burnley in the middle of a shit run and they must have been happy to be against our powder puff crew ...
Obikack was horrendous , let's hope he turns it around but whatever he does it won't change that performance ...miserable

    10% 7th-12th ........ 65% 13th-21st .... 25% the bottom 3 be afraid be very afraid

Think you are going completely over the top on the squad and the chances

    sportsclubstats.com/England/ChampionshipLeague.html

The site above was not updated after previous results but it is now and states that our relegation chances have gone up by 2.5% to 5%. It also states that IF we can beat Peterborough then we will virtually bury them with a 60% chance of relegation!
So assuming Chris Powell goes back to basics with 4-5-1 and our best players in their best positions then the wheels will be back on.

  • you keep trotting out those stats seriously ...but what are their stats for 13th-21st or wherever else in the table
i'll take my view on things charlton over some stat attack bank ... for the most of this season i've leaned towards 13-21st and i believe that is where we will end up ....
  • Why have we gone back to playing hoofball?
  • I agree with you and this guys site shows roughly a 10% chance for each of 13th -18th giving 57% followed by a 16% chance of 19th-21st
I have no idea how accurate it is but I've noticed our 1% chance of promotion has just disappeared! And their quote of 5% right now sounds about right. If you look at the Premier league they still reckon that QPR have a 92% chance of relegation although that improved by 6% after their win vs Southampton - makes sense to me.

This squad is capable of putting a few results together although there is a problem if we are missing Stephens, Solly as well as the suspended Kermorgant. I am hoping it's made clear that we need six or seven points from the teams below us.
If we get nothing from the next three games then wheels will be falling off big time and the owners will most probably look at where the next win is coming from. Given they have tipped in so much, I'm not sure why they are not looking to secure better midfielders on loan?
  • Why have we gone back to playing hoofball?

Combination of the pitch and the midfield? I've only been to two away games in the last couple of years so can't comment on how we play away from home

  • The squad is lacking any quality in depth and we have no natural leader. I have been watching this current group of players since the start of last season and with the exception of Solly and Wiggins I doubt any of them would get anywhere near a team good enough to be challenging for promotion from the Championship. Certainly we get decent performances out of the likes of Morrison, and Fuller and some others but all have been patchy in quality. Kermorgant is a warrior but won't ever get anywhere near being prolific. Therein lies the problem. We are a bottom third quality team which is exactly where we are and will finish. My biggest disappointment is that SCP hasn't seemed to realise that given what he has to work with we should by now be absolutely clear about how we need to play in order to get the best out of the squad. I think that does smack of tactical nievity. The fear is that our away form which has been nothing short of baffling will take a dip and the ten points we need will seem like a very difficult task given the way we are currently performing. Next four games are huge.

Totally agree on the leadership - we had Kinsella then Parker but failed to sign Sidwell... and then we had Bailey but now where is that box to box player breaking things up and playing passes? Thing is we were only two goals away from the top half but very clear that apart from Leicester (and Cardiff at home) we are being found out by the top clubs. We needed improvements in January but nothing happened... I'm sure the type of player we need is not cheap but neither is sitting in the bottom half of the championship!
