Another poor performance cant believe the way powelly set the side up nearly every side has at least 1 player who creates things and makes things happen ie dictates the way his team plays we have no sort of player in the squad and i find this a worry , very inept performance.
Great start to the matchday experience when I locked the car and suddenly realised that my season ticket was 35 miles away in Kent! I resisted the thought that the fates were telling me to turn round and give it up as a bad job and duly hotfooted it to the ground and paid £20 to buy my seat once more. Just call me Stuwall! I've got a form which will hopefully enable me to get a refund less admin charge eventually.
That was the excitement for the day. Now to the boring stuff. An adventurous selection by Powell today although I hope, in a good way, Solly was ill or injured as otherwise I cannot understand his omission.
I really don't know what to say about the game. A crowd of 20k plus (I can only assume that total included the pigeons on the pitch in the second half which were considerably more entertaining than anything else that was occurring out there), plenty of attacking pressure however we ended up losing to arguably the opposition goal of the season.
We are a tiny team physically yet nearly all our crosses were high. Haynes is probably the quickest bloke in this league so why oh why didn't we play on the deck??
I think the players, with the possible exception of Jimmy Floyd Fuller, put the effort in but by hoofing the ball so snow came down with it that effort was woefully misdirected. Haynes' first touch made Euell's look good during the first half but at least he looked like he wanted to be there and put the effort in.
How has Waggy upset the hierarchy? He gets dropped at the first opportunity. Other than that, assuming Solly was unfit, I won't criticise Powell's team selection. At least he tried to make something happen. Sadly it didn't!
We should have got something out of that game really but ifs mean nothing and we are looking over our shoulders at the bottom 3.
posting before reading. Poor again, no invention. Strange starting line up. Was it 4-3-3? If so it didn't look it. No width in midfield but Green, Harriott and Waggy on the bench. Obika, why? Should have kept BWP and brought in a decent midfielder. That is where the problem lies. Feel sorry for Devite, not a midfielder by any stretch of the imagination but he plays where asked. Fuller, not been impressed all season. His considerable wages have been a waste of money in my opinion and he was shite today. No effort and constantly throwing his arms around and moaning to all and sundry.
Looks like we are in a relegation battle, lack of goals could cost us dearly.
We need a decent midfielder on loan asap. Yes I will take mid table, no I don't expect to win every game, yes I expect a team to be able pass to each other. This is the same team as last year. Why do they play like they just met. Shambles is the only word. Not just blaming Powell, the players have to take responsibility as well. If you can't pass to your own team mates you have no chance.
Our home form is appliqueing, and that's an understatement.
Fuller for me sees this club as a bit of a way of seeing out the end of career, if he could play football like he complains and bitches, he would be at Man Utd.
I don't mind buying a season ticket if I feel that when I turn up the team do too, but this really is a joke, although a significant improvement on last week.
Hughes, if he is fit enough, needs to start on Tuesday. Not criticising Dervite, but we need a leader in midfield.
Was told Solly had a dead leg. Thought Fuller was awful today, but on occasion he has been brilliant and won us games, so I think some of the comments are harsh.
The pitch is dreadful and I don't think the players are confident the ball will roll cleanly. Same for both teams, but Burnley didn't need it to travel on the surface after they'd scored.
I still think we'll be fine but Peterborough could be anything.
On the positive side, we played much, much better today than we did last week. And....that's about it really. Nothing much to say that isn't negative so I'll leave it at that.
Had a friend say he would buy a season ticket... to all away games. This part fortnight I have seen two of the worst Charlton performances at home since we got relegated to League One. I like Powell, I think we have some good players as away form/performance will testify, but at the Valley we are absolutely terrible/ I go to each and every game thinking a draw would be a decent result. We have got to improve or sooner or later, we will be back to tearing up League One.
I thought the team selection was bizare. We are weak in midfield which is why we often play 5 there. To try and play 3 was madness. Fuller needs it played to feet, but as nothing went through the midfield this was never going to happen.
Some of the passing today was pathetic and so was some of the first touches.
We need to play 4-4-2 at home, but with a midfield who can defend. - Evina, Jackson, Pritchard, Waggy would be my choice at the moment with Wilson and Hughes close. Everyone playing in a position natural to them and keep it simple.
Big fan of SCP, but he needs to sort out his thinking or he will be sacked. Would suggest he goes and has a chat with Keith Peacock.
I think BDL should change his pre-match..........." now you know what you have to do , get behind the boys & make some noise" and aim it at the team - the fans can't make any noise if the players aren't perfoming on the pitch.
This thread has made me realise how close i am to losing interest in modern football and not because of us playing dire at home so many times this season or foreign billionaires and anything that goes with it but the seemingly lack of patience or short term memory issues some of our fans suffer from.
I really hoped it was just a case of the loudest moaners being on the internet but i found the same depressing view point for my trip to the valley last week.

Small point, perhaps, but I don't think we need the (fantasy) attendance announced as the ball is being crossed into the opposition box.
Not sure how much longer the owners will put up with these performances especially at home. SCP has had enough chances to grind out a result at home and nothing has worked. Fearing the worst but hope they stick with him and get some investment money....

Why not criticse dervitte? He is absolutely terrible. As I remember hughes aint exactly a pass master either thou.
Feel sorry for cp at the lack of strenth in the squad but todays set up smacked of desperation.
My thoughts exactly, reminds me of Pardew in meltdown.
Didn't start too bad, but we were no way on top first half and you could see after 30 mins that a change was needed... the forwards weren't getting the ball. Still, why rush, leave it another half an hour before making the change to 442 (well done CP but needed to be sooner). By the time we took control late in the game they just packed their box, giving us no space.
You just can't guess the formation or the playing staff for the next home game! Stephens back, Kerkar back, Waggy and Harriott dropped, Cook on bench, Green starting, Jackson as a scarecrow to stop the Pigeons thieving the grass seed... only CP knows!
One thing I noticed , not sure if anyone else did is that the team didnt want to pass to harriott . He came on and did well but didnt get the ball often , only when he tracked back and won it - even wiggins while under pressure preferred to play behind him rather than the obvious pass to harriott

thought exactly that, almost as if they didn't trust him.
Get hamer back in I know button didn't have much to do but pawed at a few shots and something not very safe about him , we're awful we hoof the ball up its all quite ugly . They will not win when Millwall come they will find a way not to win that's for sure

Airman Brown in sly dig shocker.
If you were still there you would no doubt be trumpeting the crowd as a triumph of you marketing masterplan. It's really getting all a bit tedious now. Must be gutting for you that the club hasn't collapsed since you've been binned.

Another poxy afternoon at The Valley.

Get the basics right and we have a chance.

Small point, but I still hate it when we kick the wrong way.

Not much different than most of my time supporting the club then.
