Police at Palace

  • Whoever was in charge of police operations was an absolute disgrace I'm afraid. To let us all out then stopped, and marched to Norwood Junction was a joke. We should have been kept in the ground for 15/20 minutes and then let make our own way back to cars and train stations.

The criminal damage witnessed however is also a disgrace and has no place at the football club.

  • Posted my more detailed above but agree with those that plan to write to the club/Met. The actions of a small minority are not to be excused but that doesnt mean that the law abiding vast majority shouldn't explain just how badly the police got it wrong yesterday.

There is no doubt that they made the situation worse and made the situation more dangerous for many.
  • One think I wondered about (apologies if mentioned elsewhere) is did the stringent under-18 ticket checks take place?

Yes, despite stubble , wrinkles , the receding hairline and ever expanding waistline i couldn't get away with it.

Lol, MIA. Nice bit of humour in this depressing thread.

Posted my views last night on this issue- forced down a road away from where the car was parked, no answers of any clarity from officers when questioned, mindless vandalism from some of our "supporters" ( not all kids though) and basically an OTT policy employed contraray to the one designated prior to kick off.

Until reading today's posts, I was unaware of the seat destruction in the away end as nothing untoward happened in our block, S although I did hear someone state that the men's toilets had been trashed. Very sad indeed but not unexpected, I'm afraid to say.

I have also had a call from a friend who exited the ground a few minutes before we did. He seems to have been involved in the "push" of our fans and commented that the crush that resulted due to total lack of police communication was frightening. Even heard someone mention the word "Hillsborough....We didn't see any problems with dog handlers either, seemingly being at the tail end of the enforced parade towards the station, but said friend indicated that he was close to being bitten by one of the animals( canine!) I can assure you that like 99% of Addick supporters attending yesterday's game, he was purely there to support his team, and make his way home quietly again safely.

Great posts from Henry, Leaburn, cafckev and others who have "said it like it was" IMHO. I hate my Club and its fans being criticised. It's like I'm being targetted personally. I have nothing but disgust for the behaviour of the minority of my fellow"fans" yesterday , albeit that some will have only been there for the aggro and probably will never see the inside of other Championship grounds, bar the Den. If they break the law, then SOMEONE should be ensuring that they pay the price instead of antagonising them further by some inadequate and ill thought out plans. It is a miracle that innocent people were not injured as a result of the police incompetence witnessed in the vicinity of Selhurst yesterday and from a Palace poster's view, it appears this is not the first time such has happened. I have no doubt that the officers concerned were following orders to the nth degree and it would appear that a certain senior guy may have a lot to answer for...

What I would like to say is that, like others, I have been attending away games for quite a few years and have never witnessed anything remotely akin to what went on outside the ground yesterday. I hope that I never have to see it again. But PLEASE don't let this fiasco , for want of a better word, stop you from travelling away again ! This was a one off in my opinion - and shouldn't deter you from supporting our team away from home. Under normal circumstances ( and yesterday was NOT normal) the behaviour of our fans is excellent . Of course I don't condone the ripping up of seats and the like and the CCTV in place should ensure that the culprits are identified and dealt with accordingly but such actions are NOT the norm. The team needs our support away from home & the noise generated inside the ground yesterday was deafening. There is no feeling like that of seeing your team win away - this recent, and admittedly disturbing incident needs to be put into context & should not spoil future experiences . I would have no qualms about taking my grandkids to an away game...except for The Den & Selhurst Park as I know this is where emotions run high & trouble is likely to occur due to the nature of a local derby.

I shall be attending the first Fans' Forum meeting of the season on Tuesday evening and have it in mind to raise this issue unless the Club has put out a statement before then , which I feel is very likely. Any SPECIFIC questions you would like me to pose , please inbox me but make them clearly defined as opposed to vague and time permitting, I'll do the best I can.

  • As I didn't go yesterday but went all them years as shitehurst when we played, when you came out the arthur shite stand, where exactly did they take you, did you do a right up towards the home end, then a left down the side road, or was it a left out the stand.
  • Excellent post fanny

Turned right out of the ground and then a left down the side road before you get to the corner. The Berlin Wall was between the away end and the corner.

You missed Nolly's tear jerking rendition of "the higher you build your barriers" when faced with the wall of steel.
  • That's the way I always went back to the station.

It is, unless you didn't want to go to Norwood Junction, of course.

Ha, no we were going to come and say hello but was bedlam and would have been a mission through the crowds.

All that this will do is cause more excesive OB more surveillance more early morning knocks and more banning orders

I was not there yesterday but

I can honestly say I couldn't be arsed to rip up seats or rip down bogs

And I wouldn't smash up cars or property

Maybe because I am older now with more to lose and because it ain't what I go football for

Very much how the shrinks who study this behaviour say it becomes mob mentality it's the way of the world

I don't think that those that have done it have enhanced their reputation with this behaviour

However the numbers that were together we're very impressive and is certainly gaining momentum and becoming known Which will bring its own challenges for them
  • Hands up who got hit by a baton? Who got bit by a police dog? I was at the very front of the cordon, talking to the OB and he explained to me that it was for safety reasons getting into the station, and I was watching people from across the road pushing each other onto the platform. There was 1 cozza that seemed like he was fighting for his country but in general I felt for some of the OB there yesterday, who were decent fellas and the one who got on the train with us had to go straight from there to another venue (not sure what it was) to do it all over again.
Can you honestly put yourself in their position, trying to get 3000 upset, angry, drunk, tiddly, people safely away from a football match & onto a train, without any incidents. So some people were put out for an extra 30-40 mins of their lives, you all got home in the end.

Agree with this. I can only comment on my experience, but I had no problem with the way the Police handled things. I certainly didn't see anything excessive from them.

Minor inconvienience but nothing more than was to be expected.

Presumably, you wanted to go to Norwood Station ? A lot of supporters did not.
