Police at Palace

edited February 2013 in General Charlton
Utterly ridiculous.

I have just got to East Croydon having escaped from the kettling.

Just no need for it and totally exagerated the situation. Quite funny to see the thin blue line get pushed up the street though. They started it !

  • I think I passed half the met police force getting back to the car. Over the top
  • Why do people always blame police. Idiot kids who were the problem. Behaviour from our fans was an utter embarrassment after the game.
  • Their own fault today, could've let us walk all the way to the station and controlled it there.

They created the surges and various dog bites and bloody heads. Even to their own.
  • Stupud police decision to let people out and then block a narrow road. Either keep us in or let us go.

The surge by our fans was potentially dangerous but the police created a flash point and then lost control of the situation.

Managed to walk past them but the dog handler was panicing and at least one officer drew his baton and was lashing out.

Poor operational plan, poor management and even worse reaction when they lost control.

    Hope no one was hurt.

Totally right @WSS - let people get on their way and you don't get mob mentality.

A mate of mine (who works for met police dog unit) said they were expecting a big "issue" today and had an very unusually high 3 dog units out.

Why stop people from walking down the street ? Madness and just gets people acting tribal.

More OB there today than I think I have ever seen at a game - aside from England away.

I "mentioned" this to plod and the only reasonable one of the day said -" I can't disagree with you". Meanwhile the plod next to him was foaming at the mouth more than his bear sixed pooch.

Comment above about charlton being out of order not right.

    Same old plod.

    What did they do?
  • My mate said he got hit with a baton in the stomach by police after getting bundled into them as there was no room.
  • I thought the police got it on spot on inside the ground today. Can't say the same for the stewards. Thugs in jackets looking for a fight.

Pathetic. We were parked 100 yards from the ground on a blue badge. Tried to explain that to a copper right outside the ground. Told me to piss off or I'd be nicked for obstruction! Finally got onto White Horse Hill up by the traffic lights and had to walk back past Sainsburys.

Gonna take a wild guess and assume you weren't there.
  • Had a laugh with one when I said "all this hassle mate, at least you've got a good pension..."

On the train back now smart area. I'm guessing you didn't have idiots ripping up seats next to you then.

  • That was unreal. A complete balls up over the top operation from the police. I'm never ever one to have a go at the police i respect them hugely. But whoever sat down and planned that needs a serious talking to.
Caused a serious issue for no good reason. Imagine living in one of those houses? Can't condone people damaging cars etc... But what would the police have expected. Felt sorry for the poor buggers in those houses. Absolute over the top balls up

    What did they do?
Charged the police lines, smashed the wing mirrors off prob about 100 cars, jumped on top of one or two. The roads round the ground have low stock housing, people in them will not be minted and now have a bill to pay cause some nob of a kid cannot take losing and being kept back for an hour or so. Like I have said before, police got it wrong but there is no excuse for mindless vandalism. It was the minority, but a pretty sizeable one

So you think that the police managed the crowd outside correctly then?
  • If they wanted to keep us in, keep us in the ground. Having thousands of angry football fans being held in a residential area was frankly irresponsible.

  • if only we won, none of this would of mattered....
  • Yep. I spoke to maybe 6 of them and they all agreed it was ridiculous situation but they were just doing what they were told to.
  • I don't think there would have been any seats left in the ground if we were kept in. There were a fair few removed before the final whistle.
  • In all seriousness, Palace have got one of the worst Police Intelligence officers in the world.

PC Dorrans who apparently was kicked out of Charlton, and is detested by all Palace fans, and is responsible for making any potential problem games into an absolute joke.

    Please take him back.
  • Some women copper took me can of beer off me as I walked into the station on way home said not allowed open beer can on train gets on train and the whole trains like a travelling pub wouldn't mind so much but only just opened it
  • Brain-dead policing, absolutely STUPID in residential streets, and caused more problems than it solved. Usual total lack of helpful communication. Eventually made it back to Harrington Road tramstop, but feared for my own safety in the surging outside the ground.
  • Got through on the left thanks to a Nate with a limp and a walking stick. Don't understand why they moved us towards that end if the stand and then refused entry to the easiest main road

You clearly weren't there so keep your opinions to yourself
  • anyway the most important issue did we give the Nigels a slap
  • They put up the Berlin Wall. Not even @1905 could see over it.

Seriously, they put up a semi/permanent metal wall.
