  • anyway the most important issue did we give the Nigels a slap

I don't advocate violence towards the unfortunate.

    But I hope so.
  • Just got in and am livid with whoever planned taking us down a narrow road with parked cars. I was asking asking a scared looking copper why this was happening and she said she didn't know. Found meself close to some thug with a police dog urging me to move forward so it could get me just after his collegue had lost control of his dog and it started attacking a female officer. Me car of course was parked in totally the opposite direction and took me an hour to get to it. Was told a superintendant Roberts was in charge of that operation.
  • Stupud police decision to let people out and then block a narrow road. Either keep us in or let us go.

The surge by our fans was potentially dangerous but the police created a flash point and then lost control of the situation.

Managed to walk past them but the dog handler was panicing and at least one officer drew his baton and was lashing out.

Poor operational plan, poor management and even worse reaction when they lost control.

    Hope no one was hurt.

Saw you doing your bit of crowd control Henry as was not far behind you in that crowd afterwards... never seen you angry before ha ha

    ;-)

Yep some people aint the brightest....little kids and old boys in there and pushing our own fans like it's the opening of the Top Shop sale.
  • very poor policing today. We left the ground and went to turn right and was told in a very agressive manner that the road was shut. I explained that it was fine but how do i get to the other side. The police just repeated in an aggresive manner that the road was shut. After I reminded them that they are public servants they told me to go up the road and turn left then 2nd left. We done that and guess what...........yep you guessed it, the police wouldn't let us turn left!!
Got through in the end but all it done was wind the crowd up

LOL. Didn't spot you Adam. Just trying to get the police to see sense.

Did see Reams giving the police his opinions early on but then didn't see him again. I hope they let him get his connection.

Why do people always blame police. Idiot kids who were the problem. Behaviour from our fans was an utter embarrassment after the game.

You clearly weren't there so keep your opinions to yourself
Clearly weren't there. I was right near the front, stood in one of the front gardens to let the nobs through so got to watch just about all of it. Have said the Police got it wrong. Doesn't excuse pricks smashing things cause they lost a footy game. And to the other poster, no I ain't a copper, just someone who has had his own wing mirrow smashed 3 times and car keyed in the past and it pisses me off when I see pricks do it.

Then I apologise. It's just very strange that your natural reaction is to dig out your own in a situation that was clearly of the OB's creating (and I get your comments re the police). What happened today after the game was shocking but the blame squarely lies at the polices door.

I think the metal wall, wasn't too bad an idea to stop the fighting, but ridiculous to slow walk us down residential streets & stop you from going anywhere bar the station, when you don't even want the fookin station.

I've been to about 35 games per season for 40 years & I've never seen so many police, riot vans & police dogs etc.

You'd honestly have thought it was Millwall v W Ham.
  • Seb smashed a worm out once I got to Norwood junction, it all felt better after that

Policing I thought it was spot on to piss off the local residents enough to get their local council to shut the ground down...

  • Its a fucking Judy!!!!!

    :-D
  • Athletico your right about people smashing up peoples cars and gardens but low stock housing, must be 3 hundred grand a pop.
  • The holding us in before letting us walk was silly. The surge was probably stupider. Some of those people in those houses looked genuinely terrified.

Blame the old bill all you want but just because they handled it wrong isn't an excuse for being a twat to everyone else.
  • The female officer told me that there was three senior officers today, but over all, Johnstone was in charge. I also asked her what the hell were the Police playing at today, and she said she hadnt got a clue. I also asked a Bexleyheath officer what was going on, and he just stood there, shurgged his shoulders and said God knows!

As someone who works along the Police, has worked alone side them in several riots on the front line, worked at the Valley for football matches, and has a fair understanding of the palns around major incidents, I can honestly say that any problems after the game was as a result of the Police holding us back.

I got out of the game, as soon as the final whistle, and was near the front of the Police line. You could feel that although everbody was pissed off and upset at the result, we just wanted to get home because we didnt fancy facing the glotting Palarse fans. As more and more fans got to the line it all turned into anger and more at the Police because we just wanted to get away. When we were finally released from the started point, i was told we would be walked all the way to the station even if we were not going by train. It took me 40 minutes to get to my car which was only parked 5 minutes away.

But, i would like to say that the way some of our "supporters" were complete scum today outside the ground. To try and start a push towards the Police, pushing your own supported including women and kids was well out of order. Then to start jumping on cars and breaking of wing mirrors, i hope you get caught and baned from Charlton for ever. When i comfronted one who was pushing, he almost shit himself, and tried to get put of my way as I am sure he could seem I was very unhappy and could easilly have decked him!

  • There is no excuse for the way some people behaved but the problem/tension was caused by the way the police acted. Why did they do that? Did they have intelligence that there was going to be serious trouble that justified so many police, riot police, dogs and horses.

I have tremendous respect for the police and the difficult job that they do but this was insane. We parked on the other side of white horse lane but had to walk with everyone else. When at last we were freed we were advised to retrace our steps but doing so found the roads had some angry residents (understandably) having a go at the police and not very friendly towards the few charlton fans making their way back. I have been going to charlton for 40 years and today, with my son, felt more nervous thanat any previous time.

If we had just been allowed to leave the ground normally none of this would have happened.
  • Fucking ridiculous.
  • "@MPSCroydon cars damaged in sangley road AGAIN, why should residents have to put up with this ?"

  • Why are police such idiots - do they have to past an IQ test - not allowed in unless than 50
  • Who the hell pays for all that unnecessary policing? Disgraceful making old people on walking sticks be kettled and forced to walk where they don't want to go! Who the hell planned that policing fiasco? All football fans are not thugs but we get treated like one.
Last time I will ever go to selhurst.
Next time they are at the Valley, let's make the Palace fans be kettled and walk to woolwich station!"

Which is it 1 or 2 - police fault or "us" out of order ?

For the last bit - I fronted a silly group of 15 year olds and told them to put the fence (that they had just smashed up) down and not to throw it.They did though which shows they had no genuine intent are not hardcore.

A few silly things being thrown into the front of the crowd from the back though - bin lids etc.

Wouldn't have happened though without everyone being stuck in a stupid police plan.

As for the housing, big houses but clearly DSS. Couldn't see through some windows for crap.
  • Absolute joke. The old expression "cage people up like animals, don't be surprised when they bite" couldn't have been more apt today. Had we all been let out like normal then yes there may have been a few skirmishes but I would hazard a guess nothing worse than what happened anyway (and it would have been like minded nobs bashing each other rather than resident's property taking the brunt.)

Thanks to my Dad playing the doddery old man role with a sympathetic WPC we managed to get through the police line at Norwood Junction and cut back to Davidson Road where we'd parked. As we did so a load of police ran past us towards the station, how badly did it kick off?

Have to say that yes some of our lot acted disgracefully after the match BUT the police instigated it with that joke over the top metal wall and making us walk for half an hour down the streets. I just hope Palace get the bill and not the taxpayer.

Sorry, when I said the Police holding us back, i didnt mean in the surge, I meant after the game. Should have made it clearer.

In all seriousness, Palace have got one of the worst Police Intelligence officers in the world.

    .

Fair play to him, he's up against some pretty stiff opposition for that accolade.
