  • Palace deserved the win. Thought Wilson played quite well. Kermy a big disappointment. Will Evina replace Wiggins?
  • wilson was shit mate wise up
  • As i said after the Hull game this team is not good enough for this league without further additions to it before its to late.

no way good enough to stay up. feel sorry for powell its not his fault but with most fans he will end up taking the brunt of it
  • Out of everything that happened tonight, my biggest disappointment was that Yann had such a bad game today. Of all games to have an off day, why was it today? I love football, but really hate losing.

    Posting without reading.

My first live sight of the team this season and I have to say I sense a long season and just hope we can find three worst teams in this division.

Our little players are physically dwarfed in this league yet still persist in lumping it hopefully to Not Particularly Big Yann up front. When we kept it on the floor we troubled Palace on occasion although, much as it galls me to say it about a Palace player, Zaha was a cut above anyone else on the pitch.

We can make excuses about being cheated out of taking the lead (which we were) but that does not disguise glaring deficiencies in midfield and in our hit it at Yann and hope approach.

I'm hoping it was a bad day at the office, Solly excepted, but perhaps we have played like that all season having not seen us live as I said above.

    21st will be good!

He probably will, so he should be banging on the door of Slater tomorrow about some quality loan signings.

Bit pessimistic. See ColinTuts post -it's perhaps more systemic. I'd say 9 of the starting 11 tonight are good enough. I think Curbs made the point that you can't expect to win all the time when you go up a division.
  • I really don't think we should be suicidal about the team, they were shit tonight granted but there is definitely a squad there than can stay in this division which I'm fairly sure the majority would take prior to the start of the season.

  • The signs have been there for a few weeks our midfield isn't good enough/comfortable on the ball at this level. Our defence is fine and will hopefully save us from relegation but elsewhere we are lacking that cutting edge.

I don't think we scare teams going forward, we play narrow and with little pace and when Yann like tonight has a off day we look very poor. Green looked good and showed what was needed at this level someone who tried to beat his man and get a cross in which fuller nearly scored from.

Atmosphere from us was quiet tbh, poor night all round I just hope we can get some decent loans and freebies in to improve us.

  • Huge over-reactions here tonight. And there is no-one - no-one - who hates losing to Palace more than me, especially when you've travelled 800 miles to see it.
Wilson's not that bad, although his decision to shoot at the end was dreadful. Pity because previously he'd put in a couple of very good crosses. Powell will sort him out defensively, he knows something about being a full back.
Kermi disappeared when Fuller came on. He needs to learn how to play a deeper role in that situation.
That was the most effective performance from Danny Green I've seen since Boxing Day. If he keeps that up, he'll make the step up.
Ben Hamer was inches away from becoming a 100 year legend.
Wiggins was having trouble with Zaha sure, but he was also giving Palace problems on the overlap.
Fuller is class. Give him a couple more games to bed in, and he will get us goals.
If our goal had stood, I don't think we'd have lost the game.
We've got a problem in midfield. Do you think Chris Powell doesn't know that, and didn't have the players earmarked who could fix that? The question is, do we have the money to allow him to go get them on loan?
I agree with Oohaah on the crowd. Sat near the centre circle tonight. The North Stand did its best, but in the East way too much impatience, not enough desire to stuff the stripey bastards. I can't stand them, but all 3,000 were singing.

  • Sums it up perfectly for me.
  • The better team won without a doubt imo. This division is such a step up from League 1. The skill and aggression level is just so much more intense.

I do think we have a few lightweights. In particular, today I thought Jackson, Pritchard, Hollands and Big Yann (I hate to say it) just didn't look good enough. Also, I thought Chris Solly was pretty average until he started redeaming himself in the last 15 minutes. Fuller and Green made a difference when they came on. It could be a long old season if we don't get some reinforcements who know this league.
  • Lack of commitment piss poor passing shocking 1 dimensional predictable football

League 1 players within the 11 that showed tonight

Royally fucked off right now with everything Charlton

Let's hoof the ball up field and play off the pieces

Sorry but they all have to do better than that and it starts with SCP because I am certain he doesn't send them out to do that so when it starts happening he needs to jump all over it get the fucking ball down and play with it

Picked this one out because it broadly in line with what I saw.

    I'll just add: -
Credit Freeman for nullifying Kermy's aerial threat by assigning someone to just block off his run-up.
Notice Powell didn't delay subbing on Fuller - they were threatening a second and might have run riot had they got it
Agree Fuller has a presence and will make an impact; but couldn't help thinking; had BWP put that chance wide he would have been crucified
Wilson is obviously shaping up as this years scapegoat having been given no time to settle in by the fans.
Having said that - him and Green together on the right would worry me
Nice cameo by Green, but Palace had decided just to defend what they had by that point.
Zaha and Bolasie kind of highlighted how we are missing a tricky winger with a bit of flair who will try and go by people.
Sorry Prague, but all 3000 Palace fans were singing after they scored and when they began to believe we weren't going to reply.
In my experience Charlton fans are equally passionate at their place
  • Watched via an excellent internet feed. Wiggins going off reduced our attacking options down both wings. Add that to the fact that Jacko has been a passenger in recent games and Pritch on the other side is never a winger. That means service to the front two was minimal. With Kermy and Fuller on, you need to get in behind and put in good crosses. Green was very effective at that when he came on. I think we have got the quality of players, but the balance is wrong ATM. I think Powell is suffering from having too many options. He wants to play Pritch, but also wants to play Stephens and Hollands, therefore has to sacrifice Green or Wagstaff. We need to get width and pace back into the team especially at home.
Wilson did well I thought, Solly magnificent, and we looked tighter defensively after Wiggins went off.
  • Can someone please explain to me why that with 35 mins left, 1-0 down at home, and with only 8 Palace players forward in the box, leaving 2 of theirs back towards the halfway line, we had 11 back when Palace had corners? Why were we not leaving anyone up?!
  • Uh, we did have Hamer up top as well one occasion, so weren't entirely defensively structured. But if we got another one against, we would have more trouble getting back into the game.
  • Sleepless Addick in Charlton, BTW, early flight this morning.

  • The midfield balance isn't right and it showed. CP always seems to want to play 4-4-2 but surely we should sometimes be looking to play a 4-5-1 so we are not overrun in midfield. But do we have the players to do it? We don't have a real creative central midfielder and out-of-favour/injured Hughes is the only real defensive midfielder.

Disappointed but at least I do get to see the team on TV occasionally, albeit two defeats so far this season.

With 1 minute to go, yes. I admit for the last 15 mins we left players up, but with half hour to go we didn't. Stupid.
  • The side we played will won't finish top 6 and will be bottom half and this was a team I would consider to be in our mini league within the league and for an hour out there tonight we looked a league apart and felt we were outclassed and only palaces we have what we hold attitude meant that we were able to not totally embarrass ourselves for the whole 90 mins
The step up in class has took me by surprise and even as a pessimist I didn't think it was gonna be this tough
But with the lack of quality signings (ricky apart) and a starting 11 who last season were "league one players playing in league one" this division appears to be a step too far for more than expected.
As someone above has pointed out about last season , we hardly flew over the line battering teams as the season ended with completely all conquering displays , so there was always a small doubt , I just hoped the feel good factor and some decent signings would lift us for a little bit longer but that appears to have gone awry
Very very worried and can't see where the next 3 points will ever come from
As Len Glover says just hope we can find 3 teams to finish above
  • Can't believe we didn't sign bolaisie the other week because he plays in our captains position, ok bit greedy but looked dangerous something jj doesn't, and everyone saying wilson got better at the end that was because bolaisie got subbed.

Need to pass to feet more, yann had a poor game but didn't get any service. Pritchard is not good enough for this league.
  • I think we all know Jackson is a dead man walking. We just have to hope Powell has the balls to axe him.

    This.

And with Derby, Ipswich, Blackburn and Blackpool i'm not sure how many points we're going to pick up, doesn't look good

  • Midfield flatter than a pancake, put out last years time jj left a winger right like green, its the best we have so lets stok with it
  • far too pissed last night to make an intelligent contribution but the forest game reeked of lack of quality and a relegation dog fight in the making despite lots of people burying their heads in the sand and from what i can remember it was ben hamer who was our biggest threat. their goal was a really good finish. also remember a lot of long ball tactics which just confirms how shit our midfield is.
  • I wouldn't let Wilson near the youth team

We are gonna have to listen to all this scapegoat bollocks but in all honesty he is absolutely woeful

    Simon Francis all is forgiven

Long ball merchants tonight and it's gotta stop

Birmingham away seems so far away

Have to agree with the last point. Pretty much the same team on paper but oh so different! What's frustrating is at Brum we prbed that we can play a bit, I just think that last night we struggled to cope with their pace and their pressing game. Still, onwards and upwards.
  • Where was Cook and Haynes? Injured? We really need to start having a go at teams and give them something to worry about long ball for Yann won't work every week
  • Tight game. We were second best but not by much and a draw wouldn't have been an outrageous result. Clearly we are not going to score a lot of goals; Fuller offers some hope in that respect but we'll see how good he is when he's not just coming on for 20 minutes to chase the game. This season is all about getting enough points to avoid the drop and we need a few more games to assess whether that is going to be a problem. Losing to that Palace team however, local rivalry aside, is a worrying sign.
