  • Didn't understand bringing on Fuller when the obvious problem was the lack of width. Green made an instant impact. With a decent cross from out wide the Palace centre backs were there for the taking.

Friedman marshalled his resources better than Chris Powell. Green was brought on way too late and should have been brought on with Fuller if Fuller was chosen to come on as well. Palace deserved to win.

Jackson at left mid and Pritchard at right half doesn't work.

I thought that Lawrie Wilson stuck to his task well (lost his head, a bit higher up the field) but was steady enough. Being that Green doesn't track back much and Lawrie Wilson doesn't go forward, a pairing of Green and Wilson is OK. Lawrie Wilson needed to to leave it to Danny Green at the end

Solly and Zaha were the two outstanding players on the pitch. Morrisson and Cort did ok.

On current evidence, Charlton are going to struggle without some strengthening, particularly in midfield.

The midfield has needed strengthening since the end of last season. If we don't strengthen / sort out the midfield we will be in the bottom 5 of the table, as I don't see that many teams weaker than us.

Maybe even Kermorgant could be the attacking midfielder, if Fuller starts upfront?

Gives a physical presence in the middle of the park, good hold up play and and can pick a pass.
Arrives late in the box, perhaps unmarked.

Should encourage the team to play through the middle rather than just hoof.
Playing to feet this way might just bring out the best in Stephens?

Can't see Yann as being mobile enough at the head of a diamond.

Lets not get suicidal my cyber friends,

We lost a game we could have won, we didnt lose a game we had no chance of winning. We had 2 off the line Ric missed two as well. But for tactical errors and a bad decision by mini me the lino we may be having a good weekend.

Saha made the difference especially in the first 60 minutes. Without him palace were nothing special.

Lets get the negatives out the way first.

Wiggins is a shadow of the player he was last season, but he started bad last season.
JJ, love the bloke, but he has not got it in this league, he has been bad all this season.
Wilson is NOT a full back, he was shocking defensively last night, anyone who thinks differently, needs to get to specsavers. He was Ok going forward save for that wanky shot at the death. But his priority is to defend, we cant ask our attacking wingers to help him all the time, if they start the next game. It pisses me off when people accuse posters of wanting a 'whipping boy' if they slate a player, a la Francis. Wilson is not very good and neither was Francis, sad to say but after last night true. And as supporters we a have a right to say so, I would like all our players to be up to the Championship level but some aren't.
Pritch, not the player that showed up against Fulham, need to play in the middle, but needs to bulk up more.
I said it after the Hull game, Chris Powell needs to be braver, putting some width into the game at 75 minutes was 50 minutes too late, defensively we are Ok, most of the time. He must not play hoofball, they had two men on Yann all game, one to block his runs and one to win the header, Freedmen is no Alec Ferguson, but even he worked that out. Yann is great with his feet, so play some bloody football.
JJ must be moved to the bench (he should not be put at left back, he would have got murdered last night), midfield reshuffle and Green or Cook for next game.

    Positives in my opinion.

    Solly and Morro, outstanding.
Cort had a good game too.
Hollands ok but his lack of pace is telling in this league
Stephens was the most creative and tried to play.
BWP - run and fought for everyball, lazy he is not
Yann - see above. Had fight and is proper Charlton.
Fuller - He wants it bad, so must start, but where? who do we drop BWP or Yann, or does Powell stick Yann behind Fuller and BWP, thus inviting hoofball so Yann can knock on to Ric and BWP?
Hamer, I though he was superb last night, commanded the area, made the right decisions at the right time, could have scored which would have made him a SE7 Ledge.

I read somewhere on here a poster saying we lacked fight, utter bollox, there was some great tackles flying in all game, the last 10 minutes we would have pressured anyone in this league, the team lost because of a bad decision by the lino and more importantly because of bad tactics by the manager, because I think Palace maybe could have scored more, accept it Powell has a lot to learn, he can be a great manager, and I am sure he will be, but last night was down to his selection and tactics. Oh yes, to the morons on here who thinks that if someone crtiticises the manager then they are not supporters, do one!

    COYR!

Spot on regarding our players in my opinion
  • I see that Danny Green is quickly acquiring Messiah status on here. I hope he will be, but God help us if we're pinning our season on that haircut.

My thoughts too. I just think it was refreshing to see us playing with some genuine width.

  • Is "genuine width" a bit like "genuine pace" SHG? - the thing that Hansen likes to drone on about ad nauseum?
    ;o)

    ;o)

Well what I think I mean is it was refreshing to see a round peg in a round hole on the right side of midfield.

  • Green looked up for it when he came on and I think the fact that he dropped a shoulder, beat his man and got a decent cross in straight away helped his mindset.

Have to agree that if we are pinning our hopes on him then we are likely to be let down.

Desperately need a dynamic midfielder, infact I'd say we need to address the lack of physicality in midfield. Hollands and Stephens looked powderpuff and horribly slow last night.
  • Yann not working for us at present. I would drop him to the bench for the Derby game and being in Fuller. Got to stop the pathetic long ball game! JJ needs to be benched also. A step too far for him the Championship. He has struggled in every game this season. Get Kerkar out on the left as he has better pace and presence than JJ. No time for sentiment now. CP got to be ruthless before it is too late. Still plenty of points to play for so no need for panic as yet but I think new faces and tactics are needed.

    Well said.

  • CP has said he wants to find a starting place for Fuller. However much he is needed we can't rush him. He has had some serious injuries over his career and has had no pre-season if we chuck him in now we are likly to get 45-50 mins out of him or he will pick up a niggle.
  • CP has said he wants to find a starting place for Fuller.

well, if recent history is anything to go by Powell will play him in midfield along with the other 5 or 6 players..............

WTF are you on about? If its a dig at a me, no idea what you are going on about.

  • So, where are all the rose glass wearing optimists, who were saying no less an three weeks ago that you would be 'top six fodder'? Where are the posts stating Powell is 'hot property' and destined for the Premier League? Where is your midfield?

Ha ha effing ha! We told you at the beginning of the season that this would be a tough season for you, but few believed it.

    See you at Selhurst!

Palace deserved 3 points just about - We showed a bit of spirit late on - Jackson and Pritchard were poor and we needed width introduced earlier. Despite Palace playing a classic away game and frustrating us- that goal that wasn't would have changed the game IMO. I am disgusted that in our last two home games we have been robbed of two perfectly good goals by linesmen who are incompetent.

My belief is that nobody should ever be wrongly offside and there is a simple solution to stop it happening. Give the lino a 10 game ban if he get's it wrong. What you would see is the benefit of the doubt being given to the attacker so a few extra offside goals would happen but big deal -they would be close ones and defenders would know about the risk. But NEVER should something that didn't happen be called that it did by some incompetent idiot who isn't up to his job.

I'd also like to see the linos being made to apologise - They don't mean to be rubbish but they spoil our weeks through there utter incompetence. I bet Friday night's bas***d hasn't given his error another thought whilst it has been gnawing away at most of us.

    Rant over.

Oh dear sweetheart. Touched a nerve, have I?

Look forward to seeing you and your pasty faced, carbrini wearing brethen, at Selhurst and would advise you bring a midfield & a couple of 7 foot strikers if you want to make a game of it.

    Ooooh. Nigel taunt. Scary.

No, you don't matter, however you are so deluded and bite so easily, that it's is difficult to resist a few posts on here, after you lost your Cup Final. In September. Playing hoofball.

Melt and schoolboy. You really are telling me, aren't you? What next? 'suburban scarfer'? I can hardly wait old chap.

I am merely coming back on here a few weeks after being told by the majority of your brethren that you were top six fodder and the next Swansea-in-waiting. Events have proved otherwise, have they not?

Delusion is a trait that runs very deeply at The Valley.
  • Ha, you couldn't make it up! I've never commented on grammar on here before, but what are are they teaching them in Croydon?
