  • Just think ..... if "Solly on the move?" hadn't been posted on Charlton Life, the Press wouldn't have published the rumour or even known who Chris Solly is.

There you have it: Charlton Life forum the source of all Press reportage alluding to Charlton.

    FACT

    ;o)
  • There is a thread on a Middlesbrough message board that we are in for Justin Hoyte, the former Arsenal right back who is out of contract this summer following four seasons after joining them for £3m.

I can't see us having both Solly and Hoyte next season, but then either of the rumours could well be wrong.

Shall I start a 'Messi to join Charlton thread' then?
"In a shock development, Lionel Messi's agents today revealed that his current contract has a clause that enables him to be sold for €5m if his favourite club Charlton Athletic make a bid for him. Growing up in Argentina, and then in Barcelona the young Messi dreamed of following in the footsteps of childhood idols Alan Simonsen (who also played for Barcelona), Paul Williams and Garry Nelson, and playing at The Valley.

Until now Charlton were unable to raise the €5m fee, but with the expected sale of full back Chris Solly to Bayern Munich for £6m, they would be able to comfortably afford the fee.
Messi would be expected to compete for a place alongside Yann Kermorgant against Bradley Wright-Phillips and Leon Clarke, though Liverpool have shown interest in the latter, and are expected to come in with a £2.5m bid."
  • Would Messi pass the charlton life height test requirements?

  • Oh dear
  • Joey O'Brien is the player being discussed apparently. Hope he stays but have faith in CP and board.
  • Hope Solly stays on his way to beng a Charlton legend

O'Brien? You are kidding. Not fit to lace Solly's boots.
  • Just the rumour I heard Large, probably nothing to it.
  • When I saw a 'swap' mooted I assumed it would be Baldock .
  • If Solly does go the only thing we should "swap" him for is a cheque for £5 million, no add ons, no apperance tosh. Money up front of the deals off

No.1 If we're serious about promotion to the premier either this year or in a season or two we won't achieve it by letting our best players leave ( unless he did a parker style "'ll never play for you again")

No. 2 Totally agree Mike, none of this add ons for scoring the winning goal in a world cup final etc. He's in contract, anyone want him it's all the money up front or F*** Off !!

Well if a deal is on the cards I very much trust that our current board are hard nosed and get a good deal.
  • Well the board did not let their friends in Newcastle get away with anything in the Elliot transfer.
  • All gone quiet then?
  • Powell said he wanted players in but also said he wanted Solly to stay. I guess he thought Solly staying was more important.

Either that or nobody has met our valuation.
  • If we have no money surely we are better off selling a right back and strengthening more important areas of the team?

  • Maybe noone wants him
  • I'm not sure selling your best players is usually a wise move

If we've no money, if we've had a good offer, if he wants to go.

  • Moved into the middle to cover for Morro.
  • Oh I see.

    Jolly good.
