  • A Belgian and a Morrocan is what I heard.
  • Yep, the Belgian Moroccan is still on.

    cant see us getting Fellaini
  • Sell on money would be a vital part of any (hopefully not happening) Solly deal. All of our players are for sale for the right money, simple reality.

  • but other than Jenkinson no real evidence of that yet.

    and Rob Elliott?
  • 3.5m upfront or tell them to shove it

Gah would like to enjoy watching him develop for a few more seasons. Unless it's a ridiculous fee that we can't turn down hope he's here for many years.
  • After the season he had I'd be more surprised if there wasn't any interest for Solly, a bit early for him to be playing in the prem but if the money is right then I can see him being sold sooner or later.
  • They can have him for 2 million, Baldock, and a full season loan back to us.
  • Billy Bonds (mark II) situation here?

I hope there is no truth in this cos he is QUALITY.

Worst case is he is sold off for a paltry £1m or so. Second worst case is he stays and completely loses his form and confidence. I predict neither will happen.

i thought he had a great season but coasted towards the end, would bite anyones hands off for £2m. reckon he'd be a good match for whu

Surely, if we can get baldock and say jack hunt, we are better off? And also hasn't Solly got 3 years left on his contract, we are going to be needing heavy compensation for 3 years of Solly time!
  • Surely thay have Demel and Flaubert as right backs, so unlikely to pay a seven figure sum for a player who has only played two divisions below. Plus as already said, big Sam doesn't buy small defenders nor gambles, but usually goes for tried and tested. An obvious wind-up. Admin, please close this thread.

How can it be a wind up if there is a link from a completely unrelated site backing the rumours up? Yes it is unlikely to happen, but at the end of the day our players are not untouchable and Solly is probably our biggest sale-able asset right now!

  • Faubert got released from West Ham!

I'm staggered how many people in this thread are even entertaining the idea of us selling Chris Solly, I really am.

He's `one of ours' having come through our ranks. He's just had a fantastic `dream' season culminating with promotion and a richly deserved POTY award. He's getting his first experience of genuine hero worship and affection from supporters and a club that he clearly loves. He's working with the best, and I firmly believe this, manager in the country at the moment who also just happens to be the best defensive coach out there....and some of you lot would flog this for a piddly couple of million quid.

    No, no, no, absolutely NO!

If someone offered RIDICULOUS money then fair enough but seeing as they ain't Solly's potential sale is a complete and utter non-starter for me. Some of you have mentioned that cash raised from his sale could fund advancement of the squad. As the club is under new ownership with investment required and expected and given the boards stated objectives, funding should be part of the project anyway and shouldn't rely on selling our best players `along the way'.

Anyone with a brain cell in their 'ead can see Chris Solly has serious premiership potential about him....and when he inevitably does reach that level it should be with us. During this current period of our history we should NOT be a selling club....

....and especially not to soddin' West Ham FFS!!
  • L1 to the Premiership is a big, big leap - I think this is ballcocks.
    Carl Jenkinson
Jenkinson is so far out of his depth at Arsenal that it's embarrassing to watch.

No coincidence that he was nowhere near their team when they picked up their form.

The whole deal still baffles me.

but we cant Guarantee we will get there
As for all the hero stuff, WH could potentially offer him a few hundred grand more a year than we can. Mad to turn that kind of $ down.

We can't gurantee, but surely we want to look and see what the squad can do and achieve and we could well get there next season.

Maybe so, but it happened and could happen again.
  • If our owners have ambition beyond the championship and are prepared to commit to that by funding the retention of our best players then i cannot see a sale.If not then surely only an offer very significantly in excess of the value of a successful young and promising league 1 fullback who cannot immediately run down his contract and depart on a free would be of any interest ?.save for any other factor personal to the player and/or his agent I suppose.would he also pass a medical being only 5 foot 3 ?
  • I'm getting ready to be shot down here but...... what if CP thinks that Solly's form last year was a one-off and the timing's right to cash in now?
  • Its always said that the spine of the team is most important for a teams success, and so it makes sense if your best players are in these crucial positions. If we can get decent money for a fullback let him go and we can then invest in better players in the spine and get someone who is capable and cheaper for full back.

Then you could ask the same about Yann, Hollands, Morro.......

Sorry but think I will shoot you down.

True you need a good spine, but I doubt we'd have been promoted with say Omozusi and Basey at full back. Solly and Wiggins along with Yann are our best players and played a very important part last season.

Know what you mean but I don't think £2m or so is much at all in the Champ if you're tooking to spend it on 2/3 top players and their wages.
  • Jumping the gun a bit here I know but as yet none of us have a clue what our "Mysteron" owners are about. There may be money enough not to have to sell or perhaps as suggested above the plan is to develop young players and sell at a profit whilst still moving in the right direction by investing any money back into the team. Both options are to me not mutually exclusive and I suspect it's going to be both. I would be truly gutted if CS was to leave but if the price is right and the money moves us as a team and club forward then I am happy for that. Sometimes you have to move one step backwards in order to take two steps forward. We will learn a lot about our owners over the next eighteen months because we have a number of players that will start to attract attention during that period. One aspect of this rumour that is to be truly thankful is that we are no longer in a position that we must sell to survive. I am more than anything thankful for that.

One for the conspiracy theorists out there...If we do decide to cash in on Chris Solly for, say, £1m and Sam Baldock, could Matt Lowton be one of the Sheffield Utd players we're supposedly after? Not a bad full back and still only 22. Was reading the Sheffield Utd forum last night and he's one of the players that they definitely think will be leaving this summer. Look at what we were able to achieve with the Jenkinson money last season. Just a thought...

How refreshing to read a post, that doesn't presume we aren't in a position to keep him because "we can't afford him", and that a club like West ham make an offer so "He's on his way".
We have little to no knowledge of what funds are available at the club, yet people still tell us what they think we can or can't afford.
