Solly on the move?

  • I think this is ballcocks.
    So do I.

I can't see Sam Allardyce signing a 5'7 full back, no matter how much potential he has.

It's a big season for WHU, they can't afford to yo-yo. They will be signing (or trying to sign) proven Premier League players.
  • the outcome to this may tell us more about the realistic aspirations for our club under the new owners than anything we've heard so far.
The new board said when they took over that it was a part of their strategy to develop young talent and then sell it on at a profit. If the price is right, why wouldn't they sell? I rate Solly as a player, I fully believe that he deserved POTY last season and reckon he'd do a brilliant job for us in the Championship. That said, ultimately it all comes down to how much they are offering and what the opportunity costs of keeping him are. As ever, I'll trust the management at Charlton to get it right.
  • Solly is away on holiday at the moment. He'll be back in the country next week.

When did they say that, Stig?
  • Big Sam is all about big physical donkeys, cant see him wanting Solly.Could just be agent sniffing the water for a better deal? I hope so anyway.
  • I think Solly is an Arsenal fan , lets hope the only move he does this summer is house related.
  • I heard baldock to Palace PLUS 3 million and Saha going the other way

    He's 5'3''.
  • Sadly I predicted this several months ago. If it happens and let's hope it just nonsense, they will love him at the Boleyn Ground...once they get over their preconception that he's too small.

I don't think it'll happen this summer tbh but wouldn't be surprised if come Jan they are sniffing around.
  • Too small for Allardyce.

  • as a full back defensively he is sound but he isn't strong in the air but does as good as can be expected of someone who is 5ft 3 , as an atttacking threat i don't think he offers as much as he should but that may come in time

i'd sell him for 2m no less
  • Would be surprised if Chris is ready for the Prem just yet. He will but after just one season in division three its a huge jump. West Ham are prone to throw silly money around though,. Hope this is rubbish.
  • L1 to the Premiership is a big, big leap - I think this is ballcocks.

    I don't think he'll leave
  • get ridiculously irritated by WHU fans who think they made Scott Parker, will be saying the exact same thing about Solly.
  • Well over rated, cash in now before season starts

Bet his mum and dad get a bit miffed at that too...

Great question Henry. I thought they'd said that, but a trawl through my little archive has found nothing at all. So on the basis that my facts were wrong, I'm changing my argument completely. Don't sell at any price; even once we've bought Sergio Ramos we'll still need Solly in the squad ;-)

Note to self: Don't eat cheese before bedtime and go easy on that special mushroom tea.
  • What do the financial fair play rules State

I would really hate for solly to go and I would hate him going there more than any other prem club , bit if the team is strengthend on the back of it then so be it , we can always buy him back when we leap frog them next season

I was surprised because they have said very little and certainly nothing concrete like that. I think it was suggested on here that buy young sell dear could be their strategy but other than Jenkinson no real evidence of that yet.

Anyway after my Andrew Sykes will be the new sponsor scoop I am sticking my neck out and saying Solly will stay and our first signings (note plural) will be announced in next 10 days.

    Probably by me ;-)
  • As good as Solly is, if we get a good deal, we'd be mad not to even consider it.

For example, if West ham offered us 1 million + Baldock, that would be a great deal for us.

I really hope Solly doesn't leave, but the team comes first.
  • The thing with sales is the value goes up much more for a top Championship player. I'd look at players like Solly, Morrison and Wiggins and expect them to be more valuable at the end of next season - Might be a job holding on to them if we don't go up but if we do, value increases again- as long as we ensure contracts don't run down.

This is based on the assumption that we do well. If we end up bottom by 20 points then I'm pretty sure our squad would be worth less than they are now.

small-time success > big time failure

No, "underwhelming" and "one for future" : - )
  • Not necessarily, good players will still show up well. You do have to make a judgement though - are Solly, Wiggins and Morrison potentially good Championship defenders. From what I have seem, I wouldn't be surprised if they went on to the Premiership. If you take that view- it probably isn't too much of a punt to work on the expectation that their value to rise.

Yes one's called Black and the other Millett.

Almost forgot we are scouting a young French lad called Tepee and maybe Darren Tent on loan to help him get over his injuries.
