    ...........apologies. Bored at work!
  • Chris Solly, Solly
    He's not actually 5 foot 8
If he was he'd be really great

  • I think that I may be the only person who won't really be that disappointed if Solly leaves, Jordan Cousins has captained England u16 and 17 so surely if Jenkinson and Solly can step up so could he. If Solly leaves don't think we need to panic buy and think Cousins could have a big season.
Fair point - but Cousins has played no first team football - it's a big ask to have a player who is only 18 come straight into the first team and play at Championship level and replace a proven successful player in Chris Solly. Give Cousins some time to mature - a few matches in the cup etc and maybe some time on loan and then sell Solly and promote Cousins.
  • Players with a big heart and top ability can be a rare commodity.

If Charlton and Chris Solly have a storming season, there's a fair chance that we could be in the Prem in a year's time.

That's when he will have a decent value.
  • That's when he will have a decent value.

Sadly he only has a decent value while he's under contract to us after that he can walk - when does his current deal finish?
  • Hope im wrong but i think Solly will find it much tougher this year especially now we are in championship, done wonderful for us last season and loved him but taking my rose tinted glasses off i think he will struggle if we get a big bid for him then i would take it if its gonna be spent on players
  • Chris Solly, Solly
    He's only 1.6 metres
    He's better than Martin Peters

    He's better than Martin Kelly

    1.73 is 5ft 8 his actualy height!

He's one of the few I have no concerns about playing in the Champ. What do you call a big bid? £2m for example isn't much at that level, but £1m for Jenkinson was a lot while in League 1.

  • Thanks Scoham...

The strategy should be then keep him for another 18 months, get Jordan Cousins up to speed and then sell him off and let Cousins be the starter.
  • yeah 2m minimum plus decent add ons i would take
  • Chris Solly, Solly
    He's 17 horses hands
He's not going to West Ham
    Chris Solly, Solly
  • BFR - I am confused with all the strategies...I thought the strategy was get to the PL, extend good players contracts (ie Solly), sell club to Ultra High Net Worth Person, win PL, win Champions League. European Player of the Year for Solly. Testimonial for Solly?
  • Keep him, end of!

He will go down a storm in the Championship next season and still be one of our best players so whatever he is worth now will be doubled come May 2013

Scuse my ignorance, but how long is he contracted for? That may well be a factor in a keep/cash-in decision if the player himself is open to a move.

EDIT, sorry, just read above (ignore)
  • I very much doubt a League 1 player will command a fee of 2.5 mil. Would prefer to keep him. Does anyone know who he supports?
    Arsenal
  • I can't understand why so many seem so keen to rush him out of the door. Strange.

Which is more or less what I was trying to say in my post.

Except you put it better, Mike.

  • Just tell the Hamsters he's not ready for the Prem....?

    ;o)
  • We may aswell be prepared, I think at least one or two of our starting 11 are maybe on the way out, but also who would want to leave a winning side?
  • I bumped into Gary O'neil on holiday ( among others ... ) and he said they were after him
  • I bumped into Gary O'neil on holiday ( among others ... ) and he said they were after him
    Paranoia ;0)

  • I've been told by a club sponsor that Solly wants to go to West Ham and has asked for a transfer. He is on holiday but has been speaking to his agent. Not sure if we are prepared to sell or how much we want.

He told me that we were going to sign two Spanish players in Jan and it didnt happen
He told me we were releasing 6 players and we did. 50% strike rate, hope it drops to 33.3%
  • Have a feeling Solly's last game for us was Hartlepool. Gutted.
    I trust the board though.

If you were W Ham you'd easily answer that by saying "come and join another winning side, and by the way here's a massive pay rise and the chance to play in the Prem".
  • People seem sure this rumour's going to happen. I really don't see it happeneing to be honest, not sure why people are writing his Charlton obituary because of a couple of stories on the net. He had a good season where the fans loved him and I reckon he's got at least another Charlton season to go
  • I love solly but better players have come and gone in my time

He is a right back ffs

As long as the deal is right then I trust the club
  • It's be a real shame to see him leave, as he is so young still and so talented, but, a decent fee £2-3m, plus a player in exchange and I believe SCP would make the team better still. Never like seeing great players leave, but more often than not, those are the ones with value that enables a re-build, Stadium move etc etc...

Biggest issue here if he does go is value we can get for him.
