I feel vindicated now in arguing with all the people who claimed we didn't need a keeper on the bench. Hamer was stupid to give the ref the option to send him off and we would have been completely sunk without a keeper to bring on. Anyone who thinks Taylor is an actual option is kidding themselves.
Couldn't agree more. Not putting a keeper on the bench is ludicrous in this day and age when you have five subs to choose from. Leyton Orient didn't have a substitute goalkeeper and one day they will suffer for it.
Thought the red card was a shocking decision by the referee. I agree that Hamer should not have come out like that but the ball landed under his arm and his hands were right up in the air, so how on earth can the referee class that has a handball, let alone a sending off I do not know.
Maybe, maybe Disco - but if it had happened up the other end wouldn't we all have been screaming at the ref for the same outcome?
As soon as I saw the incident I expected him to go
No because I am not biased when it comes to referee decisions and if it happend the other way I would counted that as lucky on our side.
Less than 2k in our position even if it was live on terrestrial televison at 2am on christmas day is poor Although as usual I'm sure they keep making our offiicial away numbers low

I thought Powell was wrong to take off Scott Wagstaff because since Waggy was taken off Orient dominated in the midfield and it was no suprise that they had the better of the 1st half. I thought he should have taken BWP off and get the two wide men to support Kermot when we attack, I feel we could have won that way. Since Pichard came on we dominated the last 15 mins and could have got a goal.
Fair play to Leyton Orient though, liked the way they kept possession and they should have beaten us by more because their goal was not offside and I would not have complained if the Ref gave a penalty.
If a defender has his arms up in the penalty box to make himself as big as possible and the ball hits it then it is deemed deliberate. Is a keeper not doing the same by raising his arms and if he isn't what was Hamer trying to do - frighten the forward into missing?
Basically yes I think so, I can't imagine any player who is not frightened to give away a fee kick or a penalty. If Hamers hands were down I think he would have just as much chance of getting sent off.
I would like to see what rules applies on instances like these, if we class this rule name as 'handball' then we should take it as handball if the ball touches the hand or is very close to the hand.
The ball clearly landed under Hamers arm and almost touched his chest with his hands right up so to me that was clearly not a hand ball.

It would be interesting to see the (Prozone?) stats for how far the players ran during the match, because I thought that the Orient players were each covering more ground. It looked more like 9 v 11 than 10 v 11, and as if we were more concerned about conserving our energy for Brentford. Mind you, that nearly paid off at the end, when we created as many half chances as they did. Before that, it would have been a cricket score if it hadn't been for the offside flag and Mooney's and Lisbie's misses.
Unless you can call that a game plan, we didn't seem to have one for playing 10 v 11. Perhaps bringing on Cort at the back and pushing up the fullbacks to make a 3 4 2 would have given orient less space and time in midfield?
Even apart from the red card, the ref was very poor. Shirt tugging was allowed from them all the time, and his idea of the advantage rule was to see if the fouled team got an advantage, and if they did to blow up and call back play. Bizarre.
We may not have looked particularly impressive but we only lost 1-0, away from home, playing with 10 men for most of the game, against a team that have now obtained 9 points from their last 4 games, and 25 points from their last 13 games.
NLA and Richard, I was also near you and came over and gave that pathetic little mug some stick once I realised what he'd done. Like you say, his mates backed off and he wasn't so mouthy when they realised how many were pissed off.
The thing you have to deal with is then watching a group of about ten of these inbred 13-18 year olds walking down Leyton High Road after the game, singing the Lisbie song, accompanied by two middle aged dads laughing and joining in while transporting their 3-year olds on their shoulders.
Boggzy that does depress me , I don't want good Charlton supporters banned but feel the Lisbie song represents everything that is vile about this group , it is interesting that no one has come on here to justify their actions .
There was another thread recently about chants like Yippe I Eh .Why do we not sing that more ? Why have class players like Hollands ,Kermogant and Wiggins still not got songs but a former Charlton Academy player who spent 10 years with us is the target of such racist abuse . Lisbie was not even a bad player but he was probably not quite Prem quality although he did have his moments.
After the Halifax game was on ITV and the Lisbie song would have been heard by a nationwide audience it was mentioned on some general football forums ,I read on here that there was a consensus to stamp it out so I felt I had no alternative but to confront it at Brisbane Road as I don't want our proud record on anti racism further besmerched
The option of chanting 'Super Kevin Lisbie' crossed my mind but with us being a goal down I felt most of our fans might think I was a closet O so I had to confront it in a direct way and I was grateful for NLA and yourself amongst others who supported my actions. We have 2 big games coming up and we should be united in the one aim

Boo.
Yes it was a deflection. Thought we were unlucky. Please god let us win today... we need the feel good factor back!
