  • Just trying to get the thread away from BWP where would we be without him.,
  • OK, obviously the moment of madness by Hamer didn't help but we played for ages with 10 men there last season (Dailly sent off) and came away with a 3-1 win. I agree that taking off a wide man didn't help as Forbes, the right back for Orient, had licence to get forward at every opportunity and send over cross after cross in the first half and even had an effort on goal. This from a man who's scored something like 2 goals in 500 games.

That being said I thought Orient were one of the best passing teams we've played this season, especially in the first half.

As time went on we did make some chances but the efforts were either too high or wide. Sending Morrison up front was a good idea but I can't for life of me fathom why Yann tried to play him in when surely shooting was the better option. And who was it (Taylor/Wiggins?) who put that God-awful cross over in injury time which hit the first defender? Terrible.

3 points against Brentford will soothe us all I'm sure.

  • Goal keeper no concern hamer 1 match ban, Sullivan done ok considering the circumstance, I acknowledgments more concerned with how lazy and un interested bwp looked

Haven't read any posts beyond this, NLA and unpopular as it may be, I have to agree about BWP.

OK, I know strikers have barren patches etc etc but although I've defended him up until now, I agree with those who feel he should have been subbed when Hamer left the building.

Contrast BWP's involvement in the match & his contribution overall with the other Bradley's cameo when he was given a  chance. Fresh legs & not a lot to lose of course but I'd like to have seen him make an appearance earlier in the match.

Hate being negative about any of our lads but I'm wondering whether it might be time for Leon Mark 2 to start up front with Yann in the not too distant future...

Big test on Monday afternoon but I'm sure we'll be up for it. In SCP we trust.

  • Lots of Mystic Meg's on here who are

    a) certain that we would've won the game with 11 men; or
    b) certain that going down to 10 men made no difference and we would've lost anyway.

Not quiet as suicidal a thread as I was expecting though, so very well done to all.
  • whes stephens back?

    A few weeks yet.
  • I dont think overall it was a real piss poor performance, just one where we were 2nd best and not as snappy into the tackle as we should've been, when we got motivated and moved the ball without rushing or panicing we done ok especially the last 15 mins

We just didn't click, the sending off affected the team greatly and was a match change

But so what I have said we will lose games and this is one I thought we would struggle in

Had all the makings of a shit day (something always goes wrong when things are going right) and so it turned out.
Can't fault the spirit, but the game was over after six mintues.
CP has been fantastic this season, but horrible mistake to bring off a midfielder.
Solly/Wiggins did well, but couldn't do their normal thing of cutting out the crosses. (Which had been a massive part of our defensive stability)
Morrison/Taylor well below par and badly exposed.
    Nice cameo by Pritchard.
Some genuine disappointment at the end (from the players) which is somehow encouraging.
Love this team, but seriously pissed off tonight.
Going to be a long 40 hours til Brentford.
  • Where has all this BWP hatred come from.

    That's surely OTT, mate.

" Hatred" is hardly the word ....some people are just interpreting BWP's body language as being disinterested at times. Maybe a change is as good as a rest , as they say although I wouldn't have advocated it in favour of Euell or  Hayes . Let's hope Leon Clarke can give SCP another option and at the same time, give BWP a chance to come on off the bench.

  • We have been lacking creativity since Stephens got injured , leaving BWP and kerm to create their own chances , when Stephens comes back , BWP can go back to doin what he does best in scoring goals .
  • Did not see YTFC, but CAFC have seemingly not played decent flowing football since half time against Udders. BWP is therefore struggling. He is quality and needs those around him to be on fire to bring the best out of him IMO. Hughes in on Mon for me.

  • Haven't read any of the previous posts but hats off to Orient, they did a job on us. I thought CP made a mistake in taking Waggy off when Hamer got sent off. We had no width. He should've taken off BWP, IMHO. Bad day at the office but we're still 5 points clear of the Wendy's. Move on and put this down to experience. Bring on the Bees. Happy New Year.
  • Anyone who has seen the slow mo and different angles on SSN, surely it was chest/armpit? Poor to hare out like that and flap but it looked less like not handball than handball.
  • on the plus side today Solly was absolutely superb as usual - deserved a goal if he'd kept his shot down in the second half. Big Yann I thought played well too, as did Wiggins. Morrison won a lot when he was shifted up front. Having said that, after the sending off we looked second best for most of the game, and were fortunate to still be in it at the end (the way we've been playing this year I still felt we would nick a point though...)
  • The Hamer red card was maybe a little harsh but he gave the ref the option so we can have no real complaints.

We still should have got something out of the game imo. We did okay without the ball, I thought. We rode our luck a bit but that is to be expected with a man short for over 80 minutes. We were so poor when in possession though. Misplaced passes left right and centre and then wasteful crosses and shots on the odd occassion we got close to goal. We made it easy for Orient by giving the ball back all the time.

If we'd had more of the ball we'd have won imo. As it was so many players had a poor game I'm not convinced even numbers would have got us more than a point, although it's true Solly would have benefitted from help in dealing with Cook. No coincidence Solly got better ad soon as Pritchard came on.

Think we should be sending Russell back and giving BP more chances as he's impressed every game he's played.
  • Ok Sound as but I dont hear enough spoken about the general spirit in the team which has been brilliant even today I thought  the defense whilst a bit all over the place still put bodies on the line and deserved the support and applause we gave them; that is what is so very good right now. But if just one person starts to not adhere to this spirit then its like a cancer that spreads and fans are right to point this out. It wont be the best players that get promotion (of whom BWP is surely one) it will be the best TEAM. I keep saying bwp can turn things around in his heart and mind. This could be where he moves forward as a player and being honest with himself is the best start he can have . All this forum is doing (and yes there are some posts here that are OTT) is putting it on the table. We are supporters (a  term deriving from the meaning to serve as a foundation for/ to hold up/bear something) and there is no team worth its salt that is built on falsity and shallow platitudes so I say be true and honest and at same time be respectful
Blimey John, have you ever heard of paragraphs? ;-)

I'm leaping in again at the defense of BWP
Natural goalscorers are like gold dust and we haven't really had one since Benty.
Since then we have had any number that have run around like blue-arsed flies and have had the workrate of a pack-horse.
Unfortunately none of them could hit a barn door, or score a crucial odd goal in a tight game or bottle a one-on-one.
Wright-Philips can and has done all of those things - he 's not in the team to "look interested" or whatever the fcuk other sh1t he's being crucified for.
14 goals in 20 odd games is doing his job, thank you.

The goals have dried up recently, quelle surprise these things happen from time to time; although I'm struggling to think of many actual chances he's been given.

Personally I don't give a fcuk whether he looks interested or not because as far as I'm concerned he will be the difference between us going up or staying down. Just my opinion

    Another scintillating contribution off_it.
How about giving us a view instead of the usual patronising sh1t aimed at other posters?
    Just a thought, mate
  • it's his attitude not that he needs a rest. He played agains't Hudds on 28th November, then had a break to the 10th of December because of FA cup and in the bulk of those games since the 10th he hasn't looked interested.

Hi Mike.....good to see there is an expert in body language on here. What's BWP like at training and in the dressing broom? As a supporter I'm trying to nget the complete picture.

  • LOL, had a few New Year Shandies Smokey?
  • LOL, had a few New Year Shandies Smokey?
    Yeh, busted.

Time I beat a tactical retreat.
Happy new year mate and to Off_it and all
  • Hamer sweeps a lot of stuff up but fooked up this time and the nervousness of the back four was there to see with sully in goal
Powell gambled by keeping two on up front but did take arguably our worse player on the field off , which cost us our shape but he did reorganise and unfortunately it didn't pay in the end
I thought we were junk and thankfully so were orient cos we could have been hit for 5 or 6 by a stronger side
Kermorgant was awesome and was everywhere tonight
Obviously everyone is happy with where we are now but it's where we are at the end of the season that matters and hopefully tonight was a blip but I think our performances have been weaker of late
15% champions 25% runners up 60% play offs
Not sure why but I'm getting a bit edgey , still in SCP we trust
Play the stiffs in the cup , we look a bit jaded and after monday some of them could do with recharging them batteries

  • I think we have realised how important Hamer is for the team...because when he got sent off...Morrison and Taylor never really had the same partnership they had during the season.

Was a stupid mistake from Hamer...but he is still young, he will learn.

Both Full-backs Solly and Wiggins were outstanding..

  • There is a lot of shite being spouted here.

Reality check for a second. We are going to lose a game here and there that is absolutely certain unless you're the Arsenal team of 04'. We lost 1-0 in a dogged Stevenage side who are doing well this season, and went a man behind after 4 minutes tonight and still could have nicked a point. Look at the last coupla season in League 1. We are in a prime position right now, we don't give a shit about winning the league although it would be lovely, it's all about promo and we are 5 points clear of 3rd going into 2012. Who the fuck would not have taken that after the last few years?

we used to moan about not making the top 6, fair enough, but moaning about being 4 points clear at the TOP after a one off game with a keeper sent off is outrageous.

Today was incredibly disappointing.  I don't know why, but there just seemed to be something in the air today.  As soon as Hamer got sent off, I felt drained and practically admitted defeat which is very unlike myself.  The whole week was spent looking forward to today and to have our keeper sent off after only 6 minutes was a real downer, but guess rules are rules.

I have to say however, that I don't agree with those saying that Solly and Wiggins had 'great games'.  From my point of view, the defence was very poor today and full-backs were beaten far too easily on a number of occasions.  Sure, we had 10 men, but there were some moments I felt that even with 11 would've been criminal.  This is absolutely no criticism of the defence as they have been absolutely brilliant thus far but I just think we're kidding ourselves to say that any of them played 'amazingly' today.

No need to panic but thinking about Monday's game now, it's pretty massive.  Lose that and Sheffield United win and our lead is one point.  I know that's a bit of a gloomy way to look at it but just goes to prove that to gain promotion, there is very little room for error.

Here's to a positive result on Monday, Happy New Year everyone!

  • Wiggins put in a performance of a Championship defender at the very least, probably better. He played like a winger second half but still had the fitness and energy to bomb back and defend. Brilliant showing from him.
  • Sending off was a pile of gay balls.
Drinks with Charlton lads in The Ravensbourne Arms was pretty awesome.
Night over all was a 7 out of 10.

    'APPY NEW YEARS ADDICKS!
  • Firstly, I will say that most refs would have sent Hamer off and it was a poor decision to come out as he did. I do think there was no intent to handle though and whilst the ball did contact his arm, it mostly contacted his chest - if he had no arms the contact with his chest was sufficient to prevent a goal with defenders around him. However, you are lucky if a ref can take factors like this into account at this level though and if I was Chrissy I would not be happy with my keeper.

As for the game - hindsight is a wonderful thing but Chrissy took a risk keaving 2 strikers on and unfortunately Orient played the extra man very well and it didn't pay off. Harsh to be critical of either striker as they were living off scraps and we had lost all width which made us too easy to defend against. On reflection the immediate sub probably should have been Kermogant or BWP. Having said all that, whilst we didn't look like scoring, Sullivan didn't have too much to do..

It is frustrating to lose a goal to a deflection, we seem to have had a season's worth already with Tranmere, Stevenage and last night but our luck was in when the lino missed a clear offside goal. Whilst their goal had good fortune about it, I think Morrison was too easily turned initially and Sullivan was a little too far of his line.

Orient were working very hard and despite having the extra man, I did think if we could keep it to one nil the game would open up in the last quarter as players got tired. We did become too look more of a threat wiith some decent chances. Annoyed the officials missed the Orient shirt tugging that wasn't that well disguised and I instantly called the pull back on Jackson and really expected the ref to have seen that and given the penalty.

We have to be philisophical about the game- it was one of those days where everything went against us and we have an opportunity to put things right tomorrow. We'll have Green back and I'm sure the lads will react in the right way. Onwards and Upwards.

  • Of course it was disappointing to lose the game, but we are still 4 points clear at the top of the table, so we must have been doing an awful lot right this season so far. We are going to lose games, but this is only our second defeat this season.
Lots of ifs and buts last night, but with 10 men for 80 minutes you have to half expect it to be a game where you might not get anything.
    Onwards and upwards.

  • If you watch the replays from the O's keeper's end you will see the the ref had at least one or maybe two players in his line of sight, so how could he make a decision, whilst the forward kicking the ball from about a foot away. Had this happened in the second half, I think that Jackson would have been the player to be taken off.

The sending off changed the game as does every sending off, when you consider that we played 85+ mins with 10 men and lost to a deflected goal, things are no all bad.

Here's to all the joy and cheer
For this fore coming New Year
With the reds still four points clear.

And we had one cleared off the line and Solly's effort was just over, not forgetting a clear penalty missed by the ref.
  • Posting without reading others (was there)

True to form, officials were very poor shite even without sending off decision.

Thought we should have gone 4-4-1, taken off BWP and left the energy of Wagstaff on.

Saying that, whilst we rode our luck a bit in he 1st half to keep it at 1-0, we got better when Pritchard was introduced. Him, Solly & Wiggins were my stand outs.

Thought we deserved a point for our efforts.
