[cite]Posted By: bigstemarra[/cite]What carl said. Whatever happens, assuming that things would be any better under Parkinson is not supported by the fact that we weren't very good under him either. It appears that our players, with the odd exception, are cack.
we were around the play-offs and not in the habit of losing often - I think it is blindingly obvious that we would not have gone on this abject run since we haven't done anything approaching this abysmal in years.
Well you see parkinsons reign another way to mine which is fair enough,i saw a meek relegation from the championship with players that have gone and done well in the championship,i then saw them implode in games that matter to fans such as millwall away, and then playing ten men swindon lost the advantage and melted in the pens in front of their own fans. This season the man had us in fifth but kid nobody we were on the downward slide, now we seem worse granted but i was not in favour of this appointment, they need a win saturday mate or they really may go down.
Statistics are interesting arent they. Can add things either way to back yr argument. So we had no wun in six under parky. Sure ppl said on another thread that never happened. I think what were seing is parky did for a time put up a fight with a poor side but that fell apart, and the downward trend us carrying on
Who honestly thinks it will be any different next season because I can tell you now it wont. Better players maybe but ive a feeling which ive had from the start , that powell is not cut out for the job.
[cite]Posted By: Ormiston Addick[/cite]I bet Phil Parkinson is laughing his bollocks off.
There should be some very embarrassed people on this site who slagged Parkinson off constantly and called for his head even during last season.
Hmmmm. Not turning out so great under a new bloke is it?
Did Parkinson ever lose 6 out of 7 matches in L1? Did we ever go 7 without a win under him? Thought not.
Parky had clearly lost the ability to generate a performance out of the team - bear in mind that his last three matches saw a capitulation against Swindon who were a goal down and away from home, and two draws against teams who had a player sent off. Prior to that we experienced a series of joyless performances where teams that had been set up to play with the ball to their feet were forced to chase long balls and aimless tactics. And I doubt that Parky is laughing at our plight, he doesn't seem that kind of bloke.
Let's not start re-writing history.
Powell is two months into his first managerial job and we have to persevere with him. The team/squad is going to have to undergo major surgery at the end of the season, other than Solly/Jenkinson the entire defence is going to have to be changed and we need that elusive central midfielder.
Let's see how ambitious our new owners are.
Nobody is re-writing history.
Let's be fair here, the two draws in question were against Brighton and Colchester AWAY. Do you reckon we'd get any points there under Powell? They had 10 men, so what? If you remember Benson had a fair goal disallowed at Colchester which would have won the game for us.
The bloke won manager of the month in November and then gets sacked five weeks later. In his last 10 L1 games he actually won five of them and only lost three.
Under Parkinson we lost only 6 from 22 L1 games, under Powell we have lost 6 from 11 L1 games, including 6 losses in the last 7 games - including three of four games at The Valley. That's all you need to know.
What's more, Parkinson never had BWP, Powell does.
Did we have problems under Parkinson? Yes. But at least he had the ability to scrap out wins and under him we were very useful on the road (three goals at Swindon, four at Carlisle and five at Peterborough).
Most non-Charlton fans in football were very surprised we sacked Parkinson, with pretty good reason as it turns out.
Parkinson should have been given till the end of the season to make his case but Slater decided to flex his muscles and in the process has totally bolloxed it up.

I know Powell is having a 'bad' spell at the moment, but give him the summer and see what happens next season. He inherited a poor squad with the likes of McCormack, Abbott and Doherty (all brought in by Parkinson) and only had a few days in the transfer window. Give him time to get rid of the dead wood, bring in his own players, have a summer to stamp his mark on the team and get them playing the way he wants. If it doesn't work after that then fair enough, but we NEED stability at the moment. We were right to get rid of Parkinson, he was never the right man to take us up. Whether Powell will be is something we will have to wait for. Keep the faith! COYR!

Ridiculous. Nobody was expecting Powell to take us into the top two but people had every right to expect a LOT better than this.
Football is a results business, if you don't get them then you will be under massive pressure.
Parkinson might not have been the manager to take us up but so far his replacement has made things far, far worse.
It wont change. Powell and the board know the players are awful. The summer will see massive changes. Powell is the boards man. Parky did a good job for a while but o still believe we would be the same under him now
[cite]Posted By: WSS[/cite]It has changed though. We're a hell of a lot worse off now. I honestly believe we'd be in or around the playoffs without a change (board or manager).
Think its a bit harsh blaming powell.1st job as a manager things aint gonna change over night.the fact is he's inherited a shit team that have no heart and don't give a f**k about the club give him time 2 get rid of the shower of shit we have
I hate to say it because he was a Charlton a legend but Powell as a manager is hopeless.
Does he have a game plan? I can never see one. Why is he playing players out of position? Racon on the left wing! Why does he persist with McCormack? Why does he always leave it until ridiculously late in a game to make a sub? Why can he not see that we need a centre back in on loan? Why does he keep Eccleston on the bench? Surely he'll be going back to Liverpool soon, if i was him i'd be fuming.
You could argue it's not Powell's team and he needs time to sort things out, but he's already making too many basic errors that are costing us. Can anyone on here honestly see things getting better under him?

Everyone is saying it's parky's shitty team, but Parky's team was in the play-offs, powelly has turned us in our current form to one of the worst teams in the league. I have no faith in him to rebuild our squad.

I think he is - I've often seen KP in the manager's dug out at games - I'd conclude from that that CP values his input and experience.
It's not just the tactics its the players. 1 pt from 21 thats relegation material we'll be lucky stay up. Going down with the Plymouth.
Edit: I hope Plymouth stay up, I love me a good carrot cruncher

100% spot on
Under Powell we have produced consistent dross and have dropped to 11TH and are now THIRTEEN POINTS away from the Play Offs.
An inspired appointment, no doubt about that.
