Powell Aint Got A Clue

edited March 2011 in General Charlton
How can we trust him with the task of building a team to challenge next season?

We have no choice, he is worse than Parkinson, he doesn't know what to do.

Powell must be sacked and a good quality, experienced manager brought in.

I know all you silly "Sir Chris Powell" mob will try to slaughter me but I really don't care about any of you, Powell is making our club a joke and he must be sacked before relegation becomes a real possibilty.

Agreed, Powell out!
• All for Powell the player, but if this was Parky everyone would be outside the ground now calling for his head. Gotta go.
• feel sorry for the bloke, should never taken the job.. should of stuck with Sven for a couple more years and then tried his hand at managing.

I suspect The lure of managing his old club clouded his judgement and tempted him to run before he could walk.
• The club did take a gamble with him. Many people also got wrapped up in the emotion of a 'legend' coming back. The world is full of legends. but that does not make them good managers.

We, the club, have a decision to make - stick with him, support him and hope he comes good OR replace with an experienced manager.... but remember, an experienced manager is not the only ingredient to get a result on the pitch. As they say, you cannot polish a turd. You can try, I guess, but things get sticky, smelly and you end up regretting it.

Chris Powell is a top guy, loved by us all - but is he the person to take us back to where we belong. If not, is it his fault?
• He does seem to be lacking a certain level of ability !
• We've taken a gamble and we can't fool oursleves to think that it is working or that he just needs time, he's had enough games now and to be honest even through our most recent relgations I can't remember a worse run of results espeically we you look at the teams we have been playing, it really is ridiculous.
• totally agree ! should have started parrett ! coz mccormack is utter shite!! im better than him full stop! he dropped francis so why not mc'useless'mack jenkinson our best player today and llera our biggest goal threat!! that was bradley allen said that not me! we are a joke! as a person and player chris powell is the man but not as the charlton manager! i dont like seeing him lose this rep! its the boards falt they got it wrong big time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! under parky we'd be in play off spot still.
• 12 points from relegation with saints to play twice, tricky away game to daggers, huddersf, orient, bournemouth. I think the 4 wins at the start of Powells reign has saved us!

Think we will end up around 17th.

I want a refund, £25 what a joke! I actually had more fun at welling united.
• Worryingly the fixtures to come I can only see things getting worse.

• Sack him now!

Parky?
Personally I thought sacking Parky was a mistake and then bringing in a nice rookie manager was a big, big gamble - the fact that he's our hero shouldn't have weighed as much as it seemed to.
This is a truly dreadful, atrocious run of results - oh for the heady days of being an inconsistent 5th.
• I bet Phil Parkinson is laughing his bollocks off.

There should be some very embarrassed people on this site who slagged Parkinson off constantly and called for his head even during last season.

Hmmmm. Not turning out so great under a new bloke is it?

Did Parkinson ever lose 6 out of 7 matches in L1? Did we ever go 7 without a win under him? Thought not.
•
[cite]Posted By: D_F_T[/cite]Sack him now!
That's not going to happen, So we have to keep backing him, even though we dont like what we are seeing/hearing
• We got huddersfield and orient at home. The players dont wanna play for the club. Powell is here for the long haul. Get used to it
• If Chris has a plan b better get it out now
Because a is not working!

100% spot on
• Who is this inspirational experienced manager? I think we agreed that there wasn't one who would take the job. I still think Powell will get there in the end. Some decent players might help.
• They sacked Parkinson without having any idea about a suitable replacement. Madness!!! No Plan / No Idea !!!

Powell may well end up a success at Charlton, but not this season. Has been unlucky with injuries etc but has had no impact on the organisation of the defence, which as a defender you would have thought would be his first priority!!!

Looks like we'll be spending more seasons this decade in the 3rd Division than we did in the 70s!!!

4 and a half years of suffering & no end in sight!
• Not really ormiston i was happy and still am parkinson left but i wanted a proper manager in no charlton legends a old school neil warnock type, but his here now so we got to just hope it turns out at least half decent.

If he is trying to change the philosophy of the club and turn us into a side that will play attractive football I'm more than willing to give him more time. I would much rather us struggle to adapt this season and let him sign better footballers in the Summer to fit the system like Brighton have done. Would much rather take a bit of a hit this season than get in someone like Martin Allen or Blackwell and build a side of cloggers. The owners trust Powell enough to have given him the money to buy the top goal scorer in the division so I'm willing to give him longer too.

I definitely agree that Parky was no where near as bad as some made out and did some good things for this football club but that doesn't necessarily mean he was the right man for the job.

Warnock is a proper manager but he is not in our league, Parkinson was a better bet than Powell though, at least Parkinson had a few years under his belt in this league and knew the score.
• A lot of you have some very rose tinted glasses. We were on a bad run under parky that i believe would of been worse if we never had all those games called off. We have a group of players who dont care and we will be gone in the summer. Go to football enjoy spending time with yr mates/family and relax
• didn't Powell get a 5 year contract .... will be too expensive to sack him, but I don't see what choice there is - the performances are too abject for words.
• What carl said. Whatever happens, assuming that things would be any better under Parkinson is not supported by the fact that we weren't very good under him either. It appears that our players, with the odd exception, are cack.
• 3 & 1/2year contract i think

WWWWWDDLDDL - inconsistent definitely, wouldn't mind a bit of that again though - and don't forget we have splashed out on BWP in the meantime too.

Parky had clearly lost the ability to generate a performance out of the team - bear in mind that his last three matches saw a capitulation against Swindon who were a goal down and away from home, and two draws against teams who had a player sent off. Prior to that we experienced a series of joyless performances where teams that had been set up to play with the ball to their feet were forced to chase long balls and aimless tactics. And I doubt that Parky is laughing at our plight, he doesn't seem that kind of bloke.

Let's not start re-writing history.

Powell is two months into his first managerial job and we have to persevere with him. The team/squad is going to have to undergo major surgery at the end of the season, other than Solly/Jenkinson the entire defence is going to have to be changed and we need that elusive central midfielder.

Let's see how ambitious our new owners are.
• I think we should swallow our losses this season and see what develops over the summer with the squad.
