Check out the PA fans site. They seem to suggest that he has done well at Argyle and will be missed.

It says a lot about him I think !!
  • JazzyJJ .. your mooted side looks a bit light on defence. Fry is too small to play centre back but is a very adequate left back ... who is available as an improvement on Francis? .. and your midfield of Racon, Wright-Phillips and Jackson along with a 3 man strike force would have more holes in it than a string vest. I'm all for attacking football but not for suicide soccer

    Yeah good points mate lol.
  • Great news signing BWP, has shown he can score goals in the championship and league 1. I hope Abbot goes off somewhere.
But.... he failed his medical at Reading due to his knee.
  • his knee seems to be the biggest concern, but def a great signing for CAFC. Knowing charlton we will give him as long as he needs with this knee injury.... Think Cory Gibbs or Kelly Youga... dont worry BWP, we will give you 24 months to get back from that knee problem.
  • I'm not too worried about the knee condition. At least we know the longest period he could be out for is 18 months. That is a more accurate recovery date than we ever receive from our medical team.
  • Really pleased about this not just becaiuse BWP is a more than decent player at this level because it adds to the growing pile of evidence of our new owners that are sensible and ambitous and have a bit of cash to spend.

I don't know if we'll go up this year but if we don't I'm pretty sure we will next.

  • seems he has a problem with his knee BUT a problem that a specialist he saw last week, off his own back, said would not worsen through continuing playing and that it can be corrected in the close season. He hasn't missed Plymouths last five games through injury but through his being left out of the squad whilst his move to Reading was ongoing. Prudent to sign him for only 18 months though with an option to extend.
  • Cheers Jazzy. It's nice for Chris Powell to have the problem of who to select rather than who to leave out ..... Elliott .. Francis Semedo Doherty Fry ... Wagstaff McCormack Jackson Ecclestone ... Benson Wright-Phillips .. Bench: Worner, Fortune, Dailly (should join the coaching staff a s a p), Reid, Racon, Anyinsah, Abbott

  • Elliot

    Francis
    Dailly
    Doherty
    Fry
    Semedo
    ----Racon/oxo
    Jackson

    ----BWP
    Reid
    Anyinsah

Swap BWP for Waggy or Eccles, Swap Eccles for Anyinsah. Or maybe Benno for Anyinsah. The fact that a few of our forwards can now play wide helps. We could switch from ^^^^^ to

    Reid
    Semedo----Racon/Oxo----Jackson

    BWP
    Anyinsah

    Without too much fuss. Or

    Racon/Oxo
    Semedo----Jackson
    Reid

Its nice to have options with some talented players!
  • [cite]Posted By: Dizzle[/cite]Its nice to have options with some talented players!

I think this is the key
  • Good signing - now we need a defender...
  • Very excited to see the lineup for Rochdale now...
  • Just to clear a few things up which I've seen on this thread:

Some mention BWP as a player who can play on the wing also, in his time at Saints he most probably had his worse games on the wing. He didn't score many and didn't create much either.

The best we saw of him at Southampton was when he would play upfront with a big man, like Kenwyne Jones.

Also he was released from Saints because he was on massive wages which we could not afford at the time, we were prepared to offer him a new deal - he was prepared to listen but at the end of the day BWP decided to look elsewhere as a sale of the club looked unlikely.

On his day BWP can be a very good player, has plenty of tricks up his sleeve but one problem at Saints was his missed a fair few one on ones. His pace terrorizes most defenders though.
  • Those saying play him as part of a three man midfield cannot be serious!?

I don't think we should be lookingnto offload benson, he's a good pro, good finisher and offers something different. I would sell sodje all day.
  • Intresting song from the PA fans .... He's better then Shaun. He's better then Shaaauunn. Bradley Wright-Phillips, he's better then Shaun.

Thats a good point i didnt think of it whilst i was drinking my champers.

Back on topic, feck me does the boy score goals in that video clip for the sthcoast team.

i cant help but feel we dont have a ball player in the middle of the park to feed him those chances, surely that is more important now than any other position at the club

I think his contracts up at the end of the season, no big loss in my opinion.

Agree I think we can get away without a quick centre back in this league. Add a playmaker and all the attacking players will benefit. No idea who but there's got to be a few out there now that we have a bit of money to spend.
  • If we're going to stick with our current defence then we simply must play 3 in the middle. The lack of pace means we play such a deep line, and so we can't push further up the pitch without leaving massive gaps and being vulnerable to swift counter attacks. Jackon, Racon, Semedo in the middle may work as they can fill the gaps across the centre of the pitch, with then Wagstaff, BWP and Reid up the top. Either way we'll stuggle to get everyone's favourites in the team, but its a nice position to be in.

REMEMBER, we started the season with only Abbott and Sodje as our sole strikers.

This is worth noting - when we were desperate - how many senior players did Parky have at that time? - They signed up. They maybe deserve some credit for that?

And, I think Sodje has his uses - we may not want him starting every game, but I've seen him come onto the pitch and cause the opposition problems.
  • I don't think we need a new right back, we just need Francis to play more short balls and someone give him more set piece training, so can we please stop this witch hunt on him?

I'd rather we focus on getting in a left sided centre back who can run faster than a milk float and isn't either 18 or 38! A mid to low 20's pacy centre back would do wonders to our squad, and then we just have to mould the rest a bit more.

Racon has the ability to play defence-cutting passes, so let's actually tell him that's his main priority in matches.
Francis is tall, quick, has a good right peg on him (though inconsistent) and can whip corners into the 6 yard box, so lets man manage him more.
Semedo is not an attacking player, we all know he's more Makelele than Essien, so lets not expect 40 yard passes from him!

I think our team is fine like this:

    ......................Elliot
    ...Francis.....Dailly.....(NEW).....Fry
    .....................Semedo
    ...............Racon......Jackson
    Anyinsah...Wright-Phillips...Ecclestone

Wagstaff, Benson, Reid, McCormack, Jenkinson, Doherty, Worner

    Lisbie-esque.

But at this level, just what we need hopefully.
  • Really pleased and suprised with this signing. Happy days.

Yeah to be fair sodje can cause problems for the oppositon, albeit when he wants to. I just think its a great sign of how this squad has grown over the season, most of that credit must go to parky.
  • Really pleased about this - once again we have competed with chump clubs and at least one heavyweight club and come out victorious. I could get used to this kind of thing!

Onwards and upwards. Looking forward to Saturday.........COYR!
