[cite]Posted By: Granpa[/cite]One of the best things about this signing is that it is a further acknowledgement of our intention to get the down and play the right way. Only bad thing is we might have to put up with frequent visits by his Dad.
Couldn't ask for anymore in signing the leading goalscorer in the division really.
If Southampton or Huddersfield had made this sort of signing we'd be thinking they mean business.
And it looks like the new board do mean business. A pacy centre back now before the window closes and we'll have a squad to challenge for the automatics.

I like his dad, good honest pro.
I used to dislike his old man until he worked on Talkshite. He always came across very well on there and made me laugh. When the BWP stuff broke in the media he talked openly and at length about it when most would ignore it

Same here, I remember him pelting BWP saying he shoudl not be putting himself in these situations where he is involved and hehas to deal with it and learn etc.
I would maybe look to loan Sodje and Abbott on short term loans to League 2 teams let them score goals and call them back if need with a new found confidence and fitness.

Good move.
Wouldn't be so sure, we would be getting rid of both target men and leaving Benson as our tallest striker at 5ft 10. Sometimes good to have a target man on the bench to change styles.

[cite]Posted By: Henry Irving[/cite]OS say "initial" 18 months. Strange wording. Maybe there is an option to extend, maybe just means a straight 18 months.
seems to suggest that because of maybe issues with his knee it's an initial 18 months with an option on our side to extend if all goes well. If so then very sensible strategy.
Agree with tel re anyinsah.
hope we can keep him (and fit) for the remainder of the season. he has been the one striker that has made defenders struggle.
Two Southampton fans in work said he was great for them, has a hell of a shot, and was used as an impact sub as he has pace to burn, one of which said he will fire us to promotion

That was my thinking too but maybe reading too much into it. It's only the OS not SkySports or somewhere definitive : - )

If he does well between now and the end of the season and his knee holds up then i've no doubt he'll be offered a longer deal in the summer. There must be a clause somewhere stating that, there's no way we'd sign him, he does well, then he's free to talk to other clubs at xmas.
I don't wish to rain on everyone's parade but I'm struggling to get as excited about this as everyone else. It may well be because I don't know much about him or haven't seen him play, but from what I can work out we've signed a player with "previous", who at 25 has already had several clubs and who has failed a medical elsewhere. If he's that good why is he not still at Southampton? Obviously I'm happy to be proved wrong but with our history of signing people with dodgy knees I can see him hardly playing for us (or at least playing consecutively).

He left Southampton when they were relegated into league one before they came into money, and he signed for Plymouth in a higher division at the time.
i'm excited about him signing but this does concern me about him:
"After he recovered from a knee injury, Wright-Phillips made his debut for the club on 15 September 2009 against Watford. The knee injury re-occurred once again and he was sidelined for another long-term spell. In January 2010, Plymouth Argyle's manager, Paul Mariner, declared that Wright-Phillips wasn't far away from full fitness and he made his long awaited return for Argyle in the FA Cup against Newcastle United that month"
So he's had this knee injury twice already in the last 18 months.
This 'free to other clubs at xmas' thing isn't really an issue. It's only clubs on the continent that can speak to players 6 months before their contract is up. Clubs in the UK will have to wait to 1 month before his deal expires.

can't beleive some are saying get rid of Benson is he not top scorer amongst current strikers ??

I agree, personally I'd keep Sodje over Abbott
Best you get on the phone then Al....

Agree with this.
There were rumoured to be 3 clubs trying to sign him.
Interesting.
They were broke and got relegated.

How about trying out as a linesman (sorry woman)
